Any idea whether the people who downloaded it on Steam with the activation code will get to play sooner than the retail folks?

Yea, me too. Amazon is selling the book for $25 and I'd like to read it anyways. That, plus the DVD edition of the game makes is a viable purchase for me.
The Nov 1st release day seems a little conservative to me. They handed off a RC on the 15th, I'm sure its being tested right now. I just think the game will make a mid Oct release. I could be wrong though, but thats my guess.

I think it's more like we've stopped anxiously waiting. It's taken too damn long to release.

I may go for the SE version. I hate having a pile of CDs to juggle around and keep track of. One DVD is so much nicer. The T-Shirt, CS Source, and art/design book in addition are enough to justify the extra $20 for me I think.

What, they thought Sept 30th would be bad luck?

Why do publishers expect us to pay $30 extra dollars to get what should have been standard at $50 since 2000? How stupid.
