We arn't a week or 2 away until you see gold

Even then it depends on their distribution process. Many games take a month or more after gold.

Nope. Valve has an agreement with the publisher in that they can only start uploading content the day the game hits retail shelves.

9/23/04 HALF LIFE 2 SE REVEALED!

Looks like both GameStop and EBGames websites are now listing a Half-Life 2 Special Edition. Carrying a $79.99 price tag and a November 1st release date, the SE features a DVD-ROM edition of the game, a limited edition t-shirt and the making-of book.

Anyone know if the non CE/SE will have the original half life game with the source engine and counterstrike? I have made the switch to preorder the CE but I'm just wondering whether it's merely a DVD vs CD and book+t-shirt difference

Yea, me too. Amazon is selling the book for $25 and I'd like to read it anyways. That, plus the DVD edition of the game makes is a viable purchase for me.

The Nov 1st release day seems a little conservative to me. They handed off a RC on the 15th, I'm sure its being tested right now. I just think the game will make a mid Oct release. I could be wrong though, but thats my guess.

 Here's to hoping! Of course, the longer I have to wait, the more time I can sink into other games.

AH CRAP! I was holding off on preordering it to see what for sure was going to be with it. Now the Hot Deal from WalMart that was posted a little while back is dead, because I just went to the website to preorder for 59 bucks and they've changed the price to $79.82. Sucks for me... I guess I'll just wait longer now to see if the price drops anymore or if places like CC and BB are going to sell it.... :|

Oh I stopped anxiously waiting a long time ago. This is getting rediculous. I hadn't previously heard about these legal issues, but with the way everything has went, they don't surprise me.

I may go for the SE version. I hate having a pile of CDs to juggle around and keep track of. One DVD is so much nicer. The T-Shirt, CS Source, and art/design book in addition are enough to justify the extra $20 for me I think.

It is extremely unlikely that CS Source won't come with the regular version as well. At the very least it will be freely available.

Wow I'm really sick of vivendi. I hate all these enormous companies that just muscle people around and/or buy out all of their competitors. How the hell can distributors claim ownership of a product like that? It's ridiculous.

I'm betting the SE version of HL2 is just a method to keep people from buying it over Steam, which is really what Valve wants. I'm betting that Steam buyers will end up getting kickbacks later on since they are going to be Valve's preferred customers.

Why do publishers expect us to pay $30 extra dollars to get what should have been standard at $50 since 2000? How stupid.

Well, in fairness, the SE comes with a $30 book.
