What is this CS:Source benchmark I keep hearing about?
As an avid CS fan these past 5 years, my view is source is very exciting and looks and plays great.
I am concerned however with limited (about 10 so far?) maps and probably no way to import old custom maps into source easily, plus no statsme/hlguard/admin_mod support to come psossibly for some time.
As for benchmark, Source comes with a built-in video benchmarking tool which plays one of the video clips that we saw from E3 where figures were made out of water, etc. It gives you a benchmark score for your system (my result was 104fps).
EDIT: Is it worth it? Well, it comes free with HL2, so the issue I think really is wiil you be getting it "sooner or later"?
Personally, I prefer to get my games in CD/DVD form, but since I will need to buy two copies of HL2, one each for me and my son, I am buying one (bronze version) through steam now(which gives me CS Source NOW) and one (silver version) at a b&m on release date.
EDITORIAL NOTE: BTW, I never was a fan of steam, would prefer if it didn't exist, but they have made it so that it has become imperitive to use it in order to be in on the cutting edge of PC gaming.
