The map interaction gets me excited though, everything looks really good too and I have a lot of settings turned down mainly in the medium range. I just have to keep reminding myself that the money I spent was for hl2 and future good mods and not for CS which I stopped playing a long time ago. I think the main problem for me is I didnt get to play my favorite map yet (office) and the way the guns handle is a bit changed from what I'm used to (1.4). If you like cs and are planning to get hl2 eventually anyways its worth the preorder, other than that might as well buy it later.

Crap that reminds me, I wonder if the preload files are all still sitting there or not. Thats a lot of space.

Yes, Office looks particularly good. As someone mentioned above, bust open one of the office PCs and the level of detail inside is amazing. Check out the sheen on the glass-framed art work on the walls and delight in the way glass windows break more realistically.

Shoot a hostage once in the head and he screams and walks around with a bloody bullet hole in his forehead. Gotta luv it.

I will most likely do the same...I never played Day of Defeat and am not particularly interested in it, and the only other (merchandise) thing from that package I'd really even want is perhaps the Soundtrack CD. Postcard and stickers = meh. Kinda cool, but doesn't really matter either way. The hat would be kind of cool, but my head and hair are far too big to ever wear any kind of hat. :p

On the other hand, the t-shirt (even if it is XL) and the making-of book =

Oh, and having an actual install DVD for the game, instead of having to download =
I don't have a DVD burner yet, so it would be a pain to backup the install files from Steam.

You have access to the install files? I thought you dl it and then they "unlock" it. Hmm I wonder if there was a central location as to where it dl'ed everything so you could in fact back it up. Transfer it back over to the hdd after a reformat and then have them unlock it again.

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps

Backup all GCF files and that is all you have to do

I am seriously thinking about canceling my CE preoder and buying Gold off Steam.

I can't wear the shit, I wear a size small. The book included is only a sampler. No posters, no postcard, no DoD:Source, no soundtrack, and no hat. And even buying the Gold Package you get CE BOX .....

Office is nice and more my style gameplay, I played it on lunch and it made me wanna play more. Good thing the map switched or I never would have made it back to work. I do like being able to pick up nades now though, does anyone have a changelog from 1.4 to source? I've read up to 1.6, but I was good at 1.4 and now tend to spray too much.

Yup, it's worth it. I just dont like the fact that each team has only one model, but hopefully they'll add new models in the next update.

I thought the book included was the complete "making-of" book I've seen referenced a lot? And do you actually get a box and discs (DVD hopefully...) if you order off of Steam? I guess I've read a lot of conflicting reports, as nothing seems to be official yet....¿?

Edit: I just looked on steampowered.com, and they do indeed list a "book sampler", whatever the hell that means. I don't know what I want now.

chapters from the Half-Life 2 strategy guide and one chapter from
Raising the Bar."

CE buyers are getting shafted

You get NO MEDIA whatsoever when you buy anything off Steam. If you order the "Gold" Package you do get the CE Box though.

Meh.

One guy? Join a server with 20 or so people, buy the cheapest rifle, then run around firing. Statistically you'll have to get more than one kill.

Counterstrike source sucks, i waisted my money on it, HL2 and Day of Defeat Source should make up for it tho. CS:Source is just CS with prettier textures and barrels that you can shot around

You paid nothing extra for CS Source.
If you do not like CS, then what did you expect?

To me, anything that is Counter-Strike with good graphics is good. I would love to get back into CS. Can't wait till the game hits retail.
