I just wanted to add that I've pre-ordered the silver package via Steam. The money directly goes to Valve and by-passes the money/IP hungry Vivendi. I'd much rather Valve get my money than them.

My only concern is that if Valve goes down under, will they refund my money. What if the big'ole Vivendi with its high priced lawyers wins over Valve?

Other than that, I have the encrypted HL2 on my HDD and a DVD for backup purposes.

CS:S is more fun that I though. I've played it a few times and it was a good time. I'm a little emberassed to admit that I've not played it before until now. It jsut didnt look too appealing at the time.

OH yea, and a shot out to Modeps for look'n out for me while I was on vacation! x10

Welcome back warcrow... I missed your updates to this thread!!! I am having the same concerns as you.... to buy online or not. I think I am going to go and buy the silver package on steam because of the value you get at that price. I just hope Vivendi doesn't put some kind of injunction on Valve against selling HL2 over steam????

I am going to buy my package soon (probably Friday) I have only played HL1, great game.... I'll have a great time with the others!

I agree.... great job Modeps! :D

Thanks jr!

I'm pretty confident with my decision though, so I think we're ok. I never had to pay tax, which was cool. I'll be able to play the game the second its released. Also, for those concerned about the hardcopy of the game, if you backup the cached files in the steam dir, its as simple as putting those files back into the steam dir and lauching them from the steam app.

I have not seen anything as of yet... I might be able to get a server running in a week or two (my brother owns a networking company in Houston). Can't guarantee anything though! :p

I've played it a couple nights now and must say the graphics/physics are VERY nice. And if you can be lucky enough to get some guys who prefer working as a team rather than Rambo it can make for some very realistic looking action.

That said, I wish I could find the option to buy the teflon coated bullets that everybody on the opposite team seems to use. 'Cause I swear I can be busy emptying a clip into a guy, he hits me with three bullets and suddenly he's standing over my twiching corpse, looting my body for guns/grenades.

Hey Creig... I haven't played CS yet (downloading now, buying game for my B-day on Friday). I had the same "teflon" bullet problem in Battlefield 1942 (desert combat mod) one time. Was the guy jumping around like a monkey on crack?

I cornered a guy with a tank full of ammo and was unloading on him. He kept jumping around me for almost a minute solid while I depleted my ammo. This was until finally one of his teamates fragged me while I was trying to kill that guy??? Talk about unrealistic, no damage while your jumping around?

I agree. A few coworkers and myself were pretty big into CS from .7 to 1.4-ish. The updates after 1.4 and the cheaters really got out of control. It just didn't feel right anymore, but that was our opinion. I was pretty surprised that CS:S had identical game play to 1.6. I was expecting some evolution but they remarkably recreated CS 1.6, a bit of a let down to say the least.

Anyway... Can't wait for HL2 and DoD. I'm also looking forward to the new Team Fortress. :D

You missed the CS glory years. Back in beta .5, knife rushes, wall strafing, hostage jumping, sky walking, gun juggling and everything that made CS fun.

I don't know if it got asked yet, but what comment gave you the vacation?

The biggest gripe I've had with the game has been the frequency of headshots. Unless nearly everyone on the other team is cheating, there is something wrong there... I can be emtpying a clip into someone with them just standing there, and after a few hits to them I get hit in the head (close or far range) and I'm dead. What really is getting me is the fact that it's happening with whatever weapon the opposition decides to use, be it regular pistol, night hawk, and sub-machine gun or rifle... anything. It used to be that you had no accuracy when you were being hit by bullets, so I don't see how this happens, because out of the roughly 100 times total I've died so far (played for about 15 hours so far), easily 90% of my deaths were from headshots.

The other part of it is that half of the times I die from one bullet (sometimes it's not even a headshot, and I'm wearing kevlar and a helmet), I'll look in the console and it shows "Damage taken from xxxx - (insert damage amount here) on 0 hits."

If I wasn't hit, why am I getting killed from the bullet as it passes me?

That's something I hope they get fixes out for as soon as possible.

Getting shot in the head from clear across the hallways (like the long ones in Italy) by an uzi by the first or second bullet fired from someone who is running (and having this happen repeatedly) just isn't right, and is friggin' annoying.

No way. There'd be no reason to delay it if it passed testing. VU isn't going to be making any changes or anything. When they buy off, it's gold.

Inquirer is FOI.

I suspect the game will be going GOLD very soon. I have nothing to back this up, its just a theroy. 2 weeks I'm betting and we get a gold statement.

Sounds like either lag or even more lag.

Edit: And even if you have cable/dsl/T1, that doesn't mean there couldn't have been lag. Obviously I really don't know, but what you've described really sounds like lag to me.

I just got done playing, and was on a server where all this stuff kept happening to me. I'd unload into a guy crouched into a corner, whilst he just took a couple of pot shots and killed me. Other times I'd walk around a corner and get shot immediately in the head. Other times I'd be running down a hallway, and the enemy would just peek out and nail me immediately with one shot. And even another time, I was shot through a freaking wall. I played a few matches, and my ping stayed well under 100. Also on this server, like you described, there were an innordinate amount of headshots flying around from the other team.

I finally switched servers and my problems went away, but I don't count it off as just lag. These guys could've been good, but I have my reservations. One team doesn't get countless headshots while the other team struggles to even throw a grenade before getting shot in the head again and again.

Other than that, it's fun! :D

Ok, we need an AT server. One we can all get on to. One that all of us have access to, so we know we're on a cheat free server. We'll see what happens with chrisbtx.

I'm totally not with it and confused.

What are you guys playing? The new CS or the old one?

I loved HL game and will get HL2 when it comes out. But I'm only into the single player.

I still don't know for sure if I'm gonna be able to get one up, but I'm thinking if/when I do, I'll only give the IP to AT members via private messages, to keep lurkers (higher-probability cheaters) out of the server. Sound like a good idea?

Yea sounds good. I could post the IP in the OP of this thread too. We will need more peeps to play b/c it is team based, but I think keeping it to AT forum goers will work.

Hey Warcrow... and AT members. I know you purchased the silver package off steam, the same one I am looking at buying this Friday. I did the preloading for HL2 last night and check the folder. The folder (from memory I'm not at home) had 4 files that were about 2 Gb? Does this sound right? I thought the download was supposed to be 4 Gb? Do you get the HL1, CS, DoD source downloads (locked of course) when you purchase.

Thanks! P.S... are there any help files in the game or is it pretty basic (easy to learn). I'm not sure if, for example, CS or HL2 will come with a pdf of how to.
