I figured there was no sense in paying $10 less when you can get everything available for just $60. Plus, I really want HL:Source to possibly head back through it. Never finished it all the way through back in the day, so I may take a run at it again in the future when it's released and I've went through HL2.

I agree on all counts, more or less. I wouldn't have bought a package that didn't include HL:Source, and am pleasantly surprised by CS:Source.

Just logged into Steam for the first time today, and started downloading the Phase 6 of Half-Life 2. I cannot wait to play this.

Being the CS feind I am, I should go ahead and get CS:Source. Only problem I'd have right now is running it on my GF FX 5200...my computer might cry a little bit. I honestly never thought the original HL lived up to all the hype it was given. I mean, it was good, but not the "greatest FPS action game ever created" as many people I know rant... CS is rediculously fun though, and from what I've seen, CS:S looks to be absolutely beautiful. Wish the stupid 6600 GT AGP's would come out!!

Out of curiosity (I've never bought anything through steam) do you recieve a CD key or something when you purchase through steam? If you reformat, how can you get the programs back on your computer without paying?? (I've got the original CS CD key still sitting in my desk...) I assume a CD key is given...

I would also like to know if a CD key is given. I did buy HL2 and no key as yet.

And kabob983, you say you are a CS fiend, yet don't give a lot of credit to HL. To me they are to some extent one and the same. Without HL there would have been no CS. I've always said that that initial $50 investment in HL back in 11/98 was the single best investment I ever made considering the hours and hours of enjoyment derived from it through the years via CS.

I understand where you're coming from. I agree that the game has had a big impact, but I do not believe that Half-Life, the game itself, was as amazing as it was hyped up to be. It could be that I didn't get a chance to finally sit down and play the thing till last year, but I had been enjoying CS for a good while, so I don't think it's a graphical thing. It's true, there were some nifty concepts (unlike the normal FPS games, you don't have to blast away at every boss for 10 minutes just to defeat them) but I really didn't see anything that I would consider "breathtakingly cool" or whatever.

Maybe I'm just missing something though. Possibly the experience of playing it when it first was released in '98.

What exactly is this? And you told us nothing....it's been known that Valve and Vivendi have been whittling away the release candidates for a few weeks now. It's part of the process. Anyone who knows how games are pushed out the door knows that a gold announcement is imminent. Why does every single person on the internet take credit for NOT knowing when HL2 is going gold?

Yep, that last sentence is key. It was absolutely engrossing, at least for me, when I First played it that holiday season. CS, while enjoyable, in the end was sort of an afterthought for me (I can't wait to get back into it, though).

You register the cdkey of the product you have in Steam. As long as you remember your Steam login details you can reformat all you want and get your programs back

I don't know what to decide, do you guys think that I should wait for the retail package or buy the silver package from Steam? $59 is a lot for a game.

Those who bought the game of Steam, can you play HL2 or you have to wait for product's release?

Has anyone tried this?

It's probably the same one that was STOLEN from Valve months ago. As far as I know, there is no Beta.
