Well the boss (wife) told me to go for the upgrade! I'm going from a 1.2Ghz Athlon non XP to a Athlon 3000+ 64. And also from a ATI AIW 8500 to a Nvida6800. Good thing is I can put the AIW in the wifes sytem. I will miss ATI but this is my first Nvida card and cant wait to build a system on it. Only thing is I will loose the voodo 5 on her system for running Diablo... and yes it is the best card for that game! Should be a fun week.

I am stuck in the Monorail area where you have to manually overide the airlock. I have obviously overlooked something. I need the code for the airlock control room - where do I find it?

Look in one of the corners for a PDA off a carcass. I think it lies right before you enter the first flight of stairs on the cat walk that leads to the over ride.
I found 3 of them:

Charles Hollies
Gary Ross
Sam Harding

Gary Ross's has no recent log. The other 2 say nothing about any codes. Ugh!

I must have missed something earlier perhaps?

LOL: I just tried random numbers to see what would happen. The code was 862. 6th guess. LOL

me getz cookie. 😀

Can we get confirmation on how the game differs if you chose to send the transmission for backup versus cancelling it?

I'd guess that instead of just running down small dark hallways having the same thing happen over and over again, oh wait........... that's all the ever happens. My bad.

I'm running an A64 3200+ Clawhammer, 1 GB DDR 400, Radeon 9800 Pro all @ stock and getting about 30 fps in time demo 1 with 1024x768 high quality. Seems a little low to me. Would all of you with similar rigs mind posting your numbers?

No, if you choose not to send it, much of the game is spent on the Mars surface. It's very bright, and you can see enemies coming from quite a distance.

Check Here
Apparently the new Catalyst 4.9 Beta drivers can make a difference.

I just had the funnyiest time in a fist fight with 3 zombies in a pitch black room.

Hehe. I tried that with one of those fat zombies while eating some fries, and got bitch slapped down to 58 from 80 something health. lol

Ha!
I was beat to a pulpy pile of mush. :/ (hehe)
I had full armor and health too 🙂

How come zombies can see in the dark, and we cant?
*snicker*

I don't see any reason it couldn't. I'm using my onboard sound, but I'm running a digital signal via the optical cable to my receiver and I'm getting 5.1 out of my HT setup.

Ok I seem to be stuck after the Hell level. Im back at the Delta complex in the hallway with the burned down bridge and the elevator is down. Where the hell do I go?

Just wanted to add a little tidbit. Before I got the game, I read a lot of people were complaining about having to use the flashlight a lot, and it was aggravating them having to use the flashlight just to go through. I have not changed any kind of brightness or gamma settings, and I have so far rarely HAD to use the flashlight to get farther. Granted, I've not gotten far through the game yet, but just posting my thoughts.

I have just entered the lower Delta Labs after getting out of the Reactor Core Room.

Am I behind or in front you?

Behind. There was a latter in the elevator shaft I over looked :/. The fun is going to start for you in a few hours if not minutes.

I have found the BFG9000, but the code doesn't match the key pad.

I'm about 2 hours into the game, and while my first impression was very good, i'm starting to find the game kind of repetitive. Every corridor looks the same and i have a feeling it's gonna look the same for the rest of the game. And i think they must have reused the AI code from the original doom, cause every enemy seems to just run straight at me.

Still, it does have a very tense atmosphere and is an enjoyable game, but it's not as good as far cry imo.

What level of difficulty do you have it on?

The code was never correct. There's a PDA somewhere much earlier in the game that says 0's aren't allowed in the security code (because it doesn't match the keypad!) and a 3 has been substituted in its place.

Hard, but i find in most fps games the difficulty levels aren't that different.

I am having some issues in the game with my video card... it seems that I'm getting snow/artifacts (red and white dots....) on the clothing of people, but not ANYWHERE else on the screen... it's like only when I'm looking at the clothes or some other things that are active. Seems weird, cuz I don't have my video card or anything overclocked, and my system temps are reading fine. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Here's my setup (the vital organs, anyways):

Athlon 64 3200+
1 GB Kingston PC3200
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 Cat 4.7

I'm just about to install the Cat 4.9b to see if it helps any (hopefully it's a driver issue?) as well as DirectX 9.0c... goin up from 9.0b obviously...

Any help would be appreciated!

My system was running the game pretty darn good...for an hour...then crash to Desktop. Got OMEGA drivers...ran 3 hours and no crash. Still fighting my Soundstorm though...freaking sound cuts our or stutters after about an hour. I was not all that impressed with DOOM 3...however after playing on through 8-9 levels...I am used to the flash light...and I am starting to get scared once in awhile (-:

I hate to make you all jealous, but I just picked up the game for free (basically). I had $68 worth of store credit at Gametop.

Hello everyone,

just thought I'd post my experiences with Doom3... maybe it'll be useful for someone deciding whether their older system is "up to it" ;-)

Running an Athlon 2000 (1.67MHz), 512MHz memory at 200 MHz (running at 266 MHz results in a *lot* of crashes - not to desktop but reboots the computer :-( ).
Saphhire Radeon 9500PRO (not softmodded or overclocked).

Using the new beta drivers (4.9) dramatically increased the instability of my system - with frequent reboots and crashes. Not really playable, so I use the latest not-beta drivers.
(clean install of windows XP and directX9b).

A timedemo (demo1) at medium quality running in 800x600 gives me 22 fps (no AA).
The game itself runs OK, but it shouldn't really be any slower to remain comfortable...

One nice thing, though: I think the processor is the main bottleneck, so I tried playing in 1024x768, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it does not really feel a lot slower (I can barely tell the difference - haven't done the timedemo yet, though).
On the other hand, after a crash, the game reverted to default settings (640x480), and it took me a few minutes before I even realised it had decreased the resolution... I guess the reviews are correct when they say that even in lower resolutions, everything looks really great.

Should I try to get the memory running at 266 instead of 200? (will it accomplish anything except increase chances of crashes?). (the memory itself should be able to run at 266, so I don't really know what's causing the crashes; should I keep looking or won't it matter for Doom3 ?).

Cheers,
happy playing!

MC.
