They do explain why there are chainsaws :p. There's a PDA somewhere with an email complaining about a wrong shipment of chainsaws. But yeah, closet zombies=dumb.
Ya, maybe you read my sentence wrong. I was saying that id took careful consideration for things such as the chainsaw thing, but not others such as the monsters inside the walls. It kinda leaves loose ends. Either they should've explained a lot of things, or none at all.

i.e. means in example or something like that :).

Word. I'd have much rather had zombies crawl out of vents/ceiling/random locations than closets. I mean, that way you'd be looking warily at every grate, stairwell, etc, like you do when you hear those damned spiders/babyflies. :p

If nothing more, at least the Closet Zombies justify the purchase of a 5.1 setup. :D

The "justification" of the 'closet zombies' is DIRECTLY from Doom1&2. If you go play Doom1&2 you will notice there are times where you walk near a wall and it just opens up, showing a part of the room that you didn't notice existed. Usually this is filled with monsters. Doom1&2 had bigger examples though, like tricks and traps and levels like that. There was one level where you spawn in a really tiny room with armor in it. The second you grab the armor, all 4 walls go into the floor and you're level in a really big room with 4 mancubuses or something. The second you kill them, the 4 new walls drop revealing 4 cyber spider dudes. That was a really fun level.

So yea, thats the origin of the "closet monsters".

IMO, idsoftware could have done this differently. They could have had no closet monsters except maybe 3 times in the games. And these would have been considered easter eggs. But... personally I enjoyed the closet monster effect and, had the game lacked them, I would have missed several very big scares I had from backing right into an imp / zombie / etc. Hehe.

Didn't read the whole thread but has anyone else found the secret id software PDA?

Well, I do not understand all that hype behind that DOOM 3. I was expecting something new, but there was NOTHING new. Super-boring gameplay, beginning was just a bad copy of HL1, besides, the game is sooo dark, that during daytime it is impossible to play it even at high gamma settings. What is the point to design the rooms, if you do not see 3/4 of it usually. Besides, just EVERY surface is made shiny - ridiculously, even the chairs are shiny. And at high quality settings the textures are extremely boring and unsharp. It seems that Carmack has learned how to make those fancy shadows, and then in almost half of the rooms the lamps are shaking etc. It just gets on the nerves after a while!
In my opinion the level design of Painkliller, the characters etc., was just 100% better. And all those shiny surfaces with lightings etc. look sooo much better in FarCry, and also the gameplay is sooo much more interesting.
In my opinion the Doom3 is just a failure, and it is ridiculous, how much people talk about it, just because it is a work of the legendary id. If a completely unknown company would release a game like this, nobody would even notice it.

If a completely unknown company released it, the ratings would have been a 10/10. But I can understand that you don't make any sense whatsoever.

Where's that guy, idNut? He was always talking about the greatness of id, and now that Doom 3 is out, he's nowhere to be found!

Go back to Playing ZORK! Doom 3 was an exellent game. My friend sat and watched me play it from the intro to the 2nd level and he was like 'DAMN this is like watching a Movie!" ID software did a great job of ressurecting a legendary game. DOOM 3 was Doom all over again. When in history can you almost repeat the great feelings that were brought on by an event or experience... not very many times. The guys at ID software hooked it up!

Did it take you guys long to kill the guardian by any chance. I still haven't killed him. I tried about 3-4 times. The last battle lasted for almost half-an-hour. This is insane. A lot of slow down here too.

It took me about 5 minutes, assuming we're talking about the same guardian (at the end of Hell). Unlike me, you must have been smart enough to figure out how to use the Soul Cube right away - there's no way I could have survived for half an hour. I had 1 health left when I killed him.

I don't know where idnut is, but I'm here and I'll praise the greatness of id. Amazing company, the fps genre was singlehandedly brought about by them. I've probably spent more time on id related games then every other game I've ever played combined. Quake1 and Quake3 more specifically, Doom2 and Quake2 to a lesser extent.

And they've made an extremely good game once again, Doom3. Some people didn't like it, some for good reasons, others for retarded reasons. But that doesn't change the fact that it is an amazing game. Read the 6 page gamespy review and you will get the same information.

Nah, I don't have the Soul Cube. We are talking about the same Guardian. I just kept shooting all my weapons and they all ran out, fortunately, there were weapons hiding around each wall - rockets for the rocket launcher.

You don't need the soul cube to kill the GateKeeper.

Rocket Launcher will do it very quickly. Kill the seekers then shoot at the glowing cloud above the GateKeeper. Very easy.

You get the soul cube after he is defeated.

It sounds like DonVito used a cheat to get the soul cube first.

No, I just misspoke, I guess. I honestly didn't know if I had it or not - I certainly didn't realize I had it, and learn to use it, until later. I just figured that since it is asking you to save it, perhaps VIAN had it, and it kept him alive for the long fight.

Sounds cool to me.

That game makes you loose track of stuff. I am near the portal now. This game is creeping me out a lot.

It took me some time to find out how to fix the monorail.

I like Doom3 but I find it very disturbing.

OK. I finished the game. What a weird game it was.

Anyone else find the end boss to be too easy? I played in the hardest mode you can play in the first time (maybe Marine) and he was super easy (run around in a circle killing the weak guys then unleashing the soul cube on the big dude)...now im on to the hardest mode...this is going to be insane....

He is once you figure out that only the soul cube can hurt him. They should have had the ground start breaking up and floating up and down in pieces once his health got to 65% to make things difficult. :p

That said, it's possible that it's just that you had it on normal or easy. Try playing on insane and see if it's easy. They'll probably throw Revenants, Cacos and Barons at you instead of Imps and those crawler things. That should be more than hard enough for you.

Wow, I knew it would sell well, but this good!?!? 300,000 copies in the first week alone? This means its surpassed Diablo 2. Oh, and some new little tid-bits of info:

- DOOM3 demo is at least a couple of weeks away.
- DOOM3 patch is of course in the works addressing a couple of minor multiplayer bugs
- DOOM3 expansion pack in the works by a separate developer
- DOOM3 sales for the first week are possibly the highest ever for a PC game, Activision is investigating to be sure
