I am at the point where I have to decide whether to transmit the message for reinforcements or not to transmit the message... which one should I pick?

Some guy over at Beyond3d has apparently made a modified shader program that creates performance increase of 14% on ATI cards.

link

Summary of what it does: Replace texture access with faster math formula instead.

of course transmit. That's your objective in your pda. The guy who told you not to transmit is the evil scientist.

Initialy I chose high quality setting and IQ was pretty bad. Then I chose medium quality and the IQ is awesome. ID did it again. Haven't played multiplayer yet. Plan to go thru the whole thing then get online.

That's because I have a 9800pro with 128mb. For my card, medium quality is best (see hardocp doom 3 guide). When I chose high quality, the text were all blurry, picture not as clear. Medium quality is already awesome.

Sorry buddy, you are wrong on two counts:

1. That guy telling him NOT to transmit is not the evil scientist (Dr. Betruger).

2. The game course will probably change if you choose not to transmit. I will play through the game again from that save point right before that decision and see if it makes a difference. Plotwise there is a huge reason why that choice matters; gamewise I don't know. I know the cutscenes will have to be different though.

i heard you just have less help from the marines, when going through later levels.

I got the game August 1st and i'm only just entering alpha labs 3. The flashlight mod is f'in great too. I would tell everyone to at least look at what the changes are. It makes the pistol useful again. I can back down an imp wit 5 quick head shots. Reminds me of when i ran the streets in the ghetto..... [/street dreaming]

Welst, you need to set quality to high quality in gl ati control panel and enable triple buffering, leave aa and af at app preference, v sync default off. Now in game system menu advanced, set v sync to yes. You should run good at high and text will not be blurry.

****Spoilers*********

Somebody lied to you about the marines then, because you never get any help from them for calling for reinforcements.

The guy that comes on and says to not transmit is the UAB(or whatever) bad@ss guy who is there with his bodyguard. I selected to transmit because I wanted some friggin help. :) Anyone not transmit and beat the game? Would be interesting to see how the end plays out when no one comes down.

Maybe I will have to turn on god mode and blow through the levels trying it, but it might take a whole evening to do. :-/

I didn't transmit. See, because on veterans difficulty, us pros don't need any more help! ;) The only difference is that the inspector thanks you for not sending more marines in until we know what we are up against. And then Sarge gets really mad at you and tells you to get back to that terminal and transmit. Of course, I canceled it a second time as well. And then later on the insane doctor calls you a fool and says he will transmit anyways. I think those dialogues are all that are affected.

I just finished doom 3... I was really quite disappointed..while the graphics were great, and sound was okay... it was just wayyyyyy too repetitive for my liking. its like.. go to a level, kill some bad guys, get in an elevator, go to a level, kill more bad guys, fight a boss, go to another level...etc.

the ending was alright..but the guy was way too easy.

I just finished doom III as well,

the ending was disappointing, I was expecting a full story of what actually happened and what will happen.

i did have fun though, at times I was shivering because I didn't know what to expect from the dark corners

You are told exactly what happened through the emails, talking to NPCs, the videos on the walls, and your visions. Were you expecting an executive summary at the end of the game or something? LOL

I can't get the center channel to put out any sound on my Klipsch 5.1 speakers. I'm using a Turtle Beach card with the 4161 driver. The 4 other channels seem to work fine. I think it's just doing 4.1 instead of 5.1. DVD movies work fine, I get center sound with those. I also have my computer set to 5.1 speakers in the windows multimedia control panel. Any ideas?

Loaded the 4193 driver, works nicely now. :)

I just beat it today. Overall I thought it was a great game.

As for how long it took me, I'm not sure. I got the game last Tuesday so I've had it almost a week, but I've been working most of those days. I don't think the game tracks how long you've been playing it, or if it does I don't know where that is. It's fairly long though in Single Player.

Three strong points of the game are the superior graphics, great sound, and how scary it is (due in large part to the previous 2 points). As far as gameplay goes, there isn't too much new besides the Soul Cube and how you can interact with computers. There aren't any serious flaws to deal with, although too many enemies tried to scare you by coming out of fake walls instead of more creative scares (like some that were seen, such as breaking through stairs). As for longevity, we may have to wait to see what mods come out to see if they can stretch out how long the game will last you. The multiplayer it shipped with is pretty weak, but many will play through single player again at least once I think.

The story is OK. Even though it's pretty simple, nice voice acting, lots of emails to read, and videos help out a lot. You sorta get a feeling for what it's like for the people in the base, what they went through.

I'd give it about a 9.1 out of 10.

In no way am I bashing Doom3. It was one of the best FPS games I?ve ever played. Thanks ID Software!

The whole craze surrounding necessary upgrades was a little inflated. You don?t need a $500+ 3-D Graphics card to run this game. I did add a bit more memory to my system bumping it up to 768 megs but that was all. Doom was running at High mode without taxing my system as much as we were lead to believe it would. The specs required may scare some people out of purchasing this game which is too bad.

My rig is hardly spectacular?
Evo D310
2.4GHz Intel P4
40 Gig HD
768 megs
ATI Radeon 9600
19? Monitor
Altec Lansing 2.0 Sound system w/ subwoofer (maybe I?ll get a 5.1 system soon)

Just finished it, too. VERY dissappointed with the ending. iD has said they won't be making a D4, so i was hoping they'd change the plot a bit, but they didn't. Hope they make a movie about it though. Could be good if done right.

They do explain why there are chainsaws :p. There's a PDA somewhere with an email complaining about a wrong shipment of chainsaws. But yeah, closet zombies=dumb.

I just crashed the game ,,, when I died outside
(in the air chamber going back to communications from turning on security clearance to maintenance doors)

I hit the air chamber button while comming in from outside (level switch), then died when I ran out of air.
(during the level switch)
I fell thru the map floor.
(took a screenshot on the fall)
Then the game crashed. :p hehe

Ya, maybe you read my sentence wrong. I was saying that id took careful consideration for things such as the chainsaw thing, but not others such as the monsters inside the walls. It kinda leaves loose ends. Either they should've explained a lot of things, or none at all.

i.e. means in example or something like that :).
