I guess you never played with me.

Anyways, I love running close quarters with the bolt action rifles. The L96/JNG-90 just don't handle well since they don't have the stopping power of the M98, but they do have the slow bolt rate. The m40 has the speed of a 870MCS but the long range accuracy and power if needed.
The solution is to play hardcore, all the bolts are 1 hit killers there, your scores would go off the charts! :)

Ive joined Bacon for a couple of games and can testify that he is rather pro-ish with a sniper rifle. Of course he can thank me for helping keep his KDR up there during our game, since I made special efforts to keep him revived and med kits handy. :D

Im having trouble adjusting to amount of lead it takes to kill someone on normal, its insane! Now I see why most everyone runs the M16 with the Assault class, since it spits out a lot of lead and does it very accurately. I was getting chewed up by M16 toters when we faced off. With my AUG I was dying leaving them with 10% or less health. It doesnt seem to matter as much when playing HC, there any old rifle will do. :p

I go up there to SOFLAM quite often and hide somewhere on the crane to avoid getting sniped... I don't snipe when I'm up there and all I do is SOFLAM... the only way to take me out on the crane is with a chopter or kamakize jet pilot.

Man I need to start playing with you AT folks. I have a couple of you guys on friends list but most of the time we have conflicting play schedule or I'm rolling with a few buds on their servers.

So I'm having a technical issue but as it pertains only to BF3 I guess I'll ask here...

My router died on me last week so I picked up a Linksys E2500 and per usual set my gaming PC as DMZ, and disabled the firewall. My problem is that I can't see any server ping times in Battlelog. I have tried chrome and FF, disabled windows firewall, activated and deactivated upnp (shouldn't matter as I'm set up as DMZ). I've confirmed that my ports seem to be open. I really have no idea what else to try. While gaming I'm having no unexpected problems it just sucks that I have to connect to servers blindly without knowing my ping.

Anybody come across this before?

I don't always see server pings. Most are empty, but I set my region to NA and just go by player count. Usually its not that bad.

The randomn spawn points for CQ are really getting out of hand... there were many times that I would rush into a room/area and get a jump on a guy and kill him - then out of no where 3 to 5 guys would beam down from the Starship Enterprise and I get gang banged...D::'(

Not really complaining, but I don't have enough bullets to kill all of them or they catch me with my pants down while reloading... my reaction time is fast but not that fast to go after 3 + guys unless they're all lined up in a row... but they beam down surrounding you to begin with...:p

After much testing I have decided that the overall best CQB weapon to use is P90+laser+suppressor (optional), or MP7+laser+mag. All other weapons have significant shortfalls which make them sub optimal. You can try switching the laser for taclight but I find it's not as reliable.

Rifles & carbines: you either use heavy barrel for the aimed accuracy or laser for the hipfire accuracy. With the HB, your hipfire accuracy is extremely bad which means you have to rely on aimed firing. In tight quarters this can be hard to manage. With the laser, your hip fire is still worse then the SMG's, your aimed fire is worse (especially when moving), and your magazine size is still limited to 30. If you really must use a rifle or carbine, stick with F2000 or MTAR. They have the best hipfire accuracy, TTK, and bullpup movement speed bonus.

Shotties: the auto shotties have too short a range to be reliable. They are nice up to 10 yards but areas like C flag on Donya are problematic. Also, slow reload speed. Semi-auto shotties with slugs are 1-hit killers, but if you miss with your first shot you are dead. They have a slow TTK if you miss. Also problematic for multiple enemies.

Sniper rifles: worthless except maybe the M417. With a laser it plays basically the same as the shotties with similar tradeoffs. Good for long range and point blank, but nothing in between which is where 75% of gunfights happen.

SMG's other than the recommended ones: UMP, PP2000 - fires too slow. M5K - smaller magazine size and worse recoil than the P90/Mp7 with less hipfire accuracy. This gun offers zero benefits over the others except for less side-to-side recoil which is irrelevant at close ranges. I thought it had better aimed accuracy but that was just my imagination, it's the same. AS-VAL - bad accuracy when moving and bad hipfire accuracy. This gun is meant to stand still and take careful aimed burst shots at long range, not close quarters, although it is still not bad due to the high rate of fire.

LMG's: LMG's have extremely bad hipfire accuracy and not very good aimed accuracy, making them worthless for these maps. Don't even bother.

I got banned from Generation Kill earlier, admin said "TRY AGAIN .. BUT NOT HERE". My team had been hammered like 4 rounds in a row badly, then on Seine we were rolling them pretty good, got up to 16-1 in the tank and a few rifle kills, then bam, banned.

So yeah : [GK] is a bunch of pussies. I'm REALLY not very good, so if they banned me, they must just totally suck ass.

.

i have to agree, i was running it last night and its a beast, laser + susp + red dot
saw tons of people running the mp5 and m417

i dont think the LMGs are as bad as you think, they may not have the best hip fire accuracy but they put sooo many bullets down range it almost makes up for it

spent a good portion of last night working on assignments, the rocket kills one is gonna take me forever

^this

I did very well the other day with the L86A2 with silencer + extended mag on the CQ maps, and most of my deaths came from a guy using the PKP.

But I do agree that the P90 and MP7 are excellent choices for the CQ maps.

Wait - thats a bad thing? :p What map sizes are you trying? I jumped down to the 24 and below and there was definitely an improvement in game play for me.

Mostly agree. I went on a rampage with the G53 last night. First time I've really used it and basically just selected it on a whim to work on my achievements. The P90 is definitely a beast. I'll have to give the MP7 a try. I can see the IAR 27 and the L86A2 being good support weapons

I've had good luck with the tac light as well but I feel like an ass everytime a teammate is running towards me or I accidentally point it in a teammates face :(

Now I see why the M417 was introduced. It is beastly in CQ. Had some amazing games with Zargon this morning using it.

It seems CQ for the most part is looking at the mini-map (team spotting is critical) then getting a lot of bullets down range. I'm torn with the M417 or the SPAS w/ slug for CQ.

I've had pretty good games using the SPAS-12, M5K, L86A2 and M27 on these maps. Probably think the M27 is the best. With HOLO, heavy barrel, extended mags and bipod. Enough bullets to take on a group of 4. Accurate enough to shoot across the longest parts of the maps. Hip fire isgood enough. Whats funny is I rarely used this gun prior to CQ, but I think the smaller lmgs are very well suited for these maps.

I play on 24player maps too... any lower I would run around and not find anyone to shoot for awhile.

I think I'm going to start using the TAC light - I've stopped using it after the first month o BF3 came out... I could care less about blinding my teamates when in CQ a millisecond on identifying if its your teamate or not is life or death... TAC BLIND NOW and Figure out later! :sneaky:

They claim it won't be starting for another 2.5 hours.

I'll be finding out for myself here in a few moments when I play my first round of the night, but I'd have to wait until 3AM EDT, and I won't be playing at that time.
But I'll hopefully have until that time Sunday night, which is great because I'll be playing after Midnight, most likely.

Double exp? It's been on for me for at least an hour or two now.

So I noticed.

Are points still awarded if client disconnects? I can't really tell on my "progress meter" and I don't remember how many points I had toward next rank... I don't know if my PC is getting too hot or not, but it's upstairs and we haven't turned the air on yet, and it's roasting in here. Just looked, and battle reports at least seem to be there.
My system logs aren't reporting any insane temps, just temps and voltages, and they all seem to be in range. GPUs hit close to 80ºC, but with the 560 Ti's, I thought that was acceptable range (they are OC'd with extra voltage, but...). I've reached such temps before but lately it's been rare to finish many extra-ticket CQ matches.
The hassle of OC'ing when you are the Northern stretches of the 'States: super stable in the winter, but open windows on hot summer days/nights = instability when stressed. If that's the reason.

It is annoying when you make class configurations and they aren't remembered unless you successfully complete a round. I seriously hate that because I rarely remember to go back in and make the changes if I got disconnected for one reason or another.

Not really sure how this double xp works, it seems like only a small portion of my total scores are being doubled.

so yea DBL XP was very strange, i joined a game that was almost over, got put on the team that was being spawn camped, i shot 1 person and then went and just hid for the remaining 50 or so tickets, got a 30000 point bonus

other maps where i actually kill people and cap flags, i got a sub 5k bonus, did gain like 2 levels this weekend, and unlockeda bunch of the assignments, all thr 1st tier ones and good progress on the 2nd tier
