I don't know if this has been answered; I tried looking and didn't find anything. If I've already got Back to Karkand, there's no discount on Premium, right? So instead of saving ~$75, I'm looking at saving $10. On content that won't finish being released for another 9 months? Given that most everyone who was a fan of BF3 already has Back to Karkand, isn't this pretty much the case for everyone in the target market for the Premium pack? Doesn't that strike anyone else as kind of a dick move?
Your math is correct. I figured I would be buying all the DLC's anyhow so why not save a few bux and get early access. But it did bug me that the majority of what I was paying for would not be available for months to come. So yeah it is kind of a dickish move. :\

I kinda dropped this game for a bit. I got bored quicker than BF2 and BC2 because there seemed to be even less cooperative play. Mainly the lack of VOIP really bothered me, but I had a blast with BF3 for about 6 months. Do you guys think the premium pack is worth it? I will have paid $110 all told if I jump in.

FYI the CQB maps are way more fun on 16 or 24 player servers. 32 is way too much for them, they turn into a clusterfuck like 64 player metro.

I wish there was a conquest assault game mode for these maps, where you spawn on the flags instead of just being random all over the place.

I treated it like a pre-order.

And by the time the rest of the DLC is released, it'll be like "OMG FREE BONUS" - and then I'll eventually remembered I actually "pre-ordered" it well in advance.
:p

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell they arrived at "$75" in savings.

(15*5) - 50 = 75 ?
:hmm:

At most you save $25. Or can you not buy the first DLC on its own?

But hell - pre-ordering isn't something I find insanely distasteful - and in the end, I do still save $10. Would it have been nice if the Premium pack was a little more of a discount? Sure. It would be even better if each DLC pack was a bit cheaper too, instead of the eventual $15/pop. But I figure yes, I like to vote with my wallet - and, uh... I'm telling them I like to keep a quality PC-developer alive and well, let them continue to have a voice within EA, and let them keep the overall product highly varied instead of insanely focused and on a yearly release schedule.
However, DLC like clockwork, while great and all, would be awesome if it were cheaper.
Now that I think about it - by going this route, they can make an "annual" release profit without actually releasing a new game each year.
:hmm:

But I definitely like the varied-style of the DLC plan. Focusing in the server browser for a specific DLC pack, I can almost play a different game based on my mood/desires, and still keep everything tracked across them all. :D

CQ is almost like an entirely different game - but I like it. It'll be interesting as more people play it and develop different strategies. It's begging for quality squad/teamwork.
Perfect for the LAN environment, to shout out things to each other.

I would like some more game types on these maps. I get shot in the back too much. You check an area turn and someone spawns and shots you in the back. Its a lot of fun, but I think some more focused gameplay would be nice. I would even take 1 set of mcoms for rush.

My last game I used Zargons camp site on Donya, and they called me a camper! I know when Zargon does it its camping. I am defending a flag! Still, we had some good games tonight!

BTW, I dont ignore party requests, I just dont know when I get them. I saw like 4 requests after I was done. I joined them all, and I was the only one in the party. :( I dont know why they dont put in ingame notifications.

Most of you must be on the west coast. What time do you guys play? I kept checking battlelog and saw a few ATer's here and there, but no groups.

This xpack just adds more maps like Metro and Bazar which are the most popular maps.

These maps are like Bazaar, just smaller with no vehicles. I

Yeah - I'm not so sure. I love Metro, Bazaar and Seine but I am not sure about these maps. Maybe its just the unfamiliarity with the maps but it is too free flowing for my tastes. With 15 ways to get to point A on three different levels I am finding it very frustrating. There is no battle front to deal with - just a melee mess. "Yo dog, I heard you like flanking so I put a flank in your flank so you can flank and get flanked while flanking"

The 'random spawn' on conquest domination doesn't help. Oh, just spawned? Guess what 3 enemies just spawned in the same room as you. Quick! Figure out whose spawn protection ends first! Good luck...

Also - these maps seemed to have negated (or at least massively reduced the effectiveness) a HUGE number of the available weapons and attachments (Basically anything under 700 rounds a minute, with a small mag or increases the time to scope)

I dunno, maybe I should just camp flags or something, cause I'm constantly getting shot in the back. I'm shooting a lot of people in the back as well, but I think I might prefer the "bad guys here, go kill them" style more.

Yeah - its a bit crazy. The lessons I learned last night? Don't be the first arrow leading the arrow pack (mini map). You will find the enemy arrow pack and die. Don't be the last arrow. You will get shot/knifed in the back. Don't be the third from the last and think you are safe from behind. Last arrow got knifed. Second to last arrow wasn't paying attention and got shot in the back. Now its your turn

Be Advised! I do live up to my name, running over other players without regards to my KDR! :D

Ha - I do that too. I'm surprised anyone who plays with me regularly would jump in any tank I am driving.

Hey what is that over there? I saw something shiny. Oh its an enemy helicopter, tank and 15 engineers? CHARGE!

Every.single.one. of these maps are leaps and bounds above Metro.

You shut your stupid mouth - you shut it right now!

:p

Same here. Nothing pops up in game (Im not sure if its supposed to though). I've taken to putting battle log on my second monitor but even then I dislike alt tabbing out of the game to do anything (Esp now that there aren't any safe places. I died like 3 times last night talking to Busy)

Is it just me or did they increase spawn protection? Maybe its just people randomly spawning or more frequently spawning on squad members but its really screwing me up. I see an enemy and empty most of my clip into them with no effect. *Crap - they just spawned* They then turn around and kill me while I am reloading/pulling out my pistol

Or I am shooting at someone and a squad member spawns between them and my bullets and I get killed while reloading/pulling out my pistol

I have found the P90 works well for me. The magazine size seems to be one of the few with enough rounds to get me safely past the spawn protection or deal with a group of people entering the room. It seems like I will need to spend a lot more time changing load outs between maps. It would be nice if we could have 2-3 preset loadouts for each class.

Eh? I thought they disabled the spawn protection for CQB. At least that has been my experience, as I have spawned dead lots of times.

afaik its not there, more than a few times I spawned and immediately got knifed

How does Rush play out in these maps then? Surely both teams don't spawn at random points all over the map?

I gotta tel ya, reading all the comments from you premium sell-outs :D I don't see myself going premium any time soon. It sounds like the things that frustrate me about BF3 have been cranked up to 11 on this CQB map pack.
Whether it be insta-kill by someone who just spawned or being knifed from behind even though you just checked you six, etc does not sound like it would be a whole lotta fun.

This is my thoughts on the new maps: While I enjoy a variety, going from big open warfare maps to close quarters in your face combat adds variety to the game, but I thought the design of these close quarter maps are the weakest of all the maps out right now for BF3.

Yeah, we got 4 maps, but they're pretty much the exact same type of maps--you would think that DICE would have designed each map to have a bit more personality and unique from one another. Even for the smaller maps in the vanilla game, they were unique from one another that offered a varied strategy that you need to utilize. These new CQ maps are 100% gun and run like an old Quake deathmatch map, and on top of that, the maps are very small. I know that DICE is trying to be like COD with these maps, but even the smallest COD maps are bigger than these CQ maps.

The one thing I enjoy a lot is the Gun Master mode--very hectic and you feel constant pressure to try and stay ahead of everyone else, so if I were to look for one fun and unique experience this DLC offers, it will be this mode. After several hours of playing CQ yesterday evening, I got burned out pretty fast on the maps, and spent the rest of the night playing Karkand and Vanilla. I'll definitely jump into CQ, but that'll probably be mostly for Gun Master and whenever I'm looking to swap up the typical BF3 gameplay.

Edit: One more thing I want to say, is that COD's system of spawning is WAY BETTER than what we have in CQ. In COD, you spawn in the area of your captured point, and because of this, you have an idea of what you need to do or where you need to go to defend/capture and coordinate with your teammates. in CQ, you spawn randomly or on your squad, and 90% of the time it's a clusterfuck of deathmatch style shootouts, with ZERO tactical consideration.

They really should have made conquest domination only let you spawn on your squad mates or a flag. The random spawn kind of just makes it like team DM and chaotic.

Agree. There needs to be some type of organization or front lines or something.

This.

I honestly can't believe so many people jumped on the $50 premium bandwagon after months of trying to score the greatest discount on the BF3 pre-sale. Remember when everyone was cancelling their $50 pre-order to get the $48 pre-order? ;)

From the trailers, we knew exactly how these CQ maps would turn out. I have no interest in these maps, and I'm guessing many of you will lose interest soon. That's when the map pack will go on sale for 50% off.

Basically, what you got for your $50 is the right to play the map packs during the brief time before everyone abandons them. I'll save my money for a map pack that actually gets good reviews and has staying power.

In the meantime, I'll miss playing with you all on Karkand... :(

Are the spawn problems due to the fact that the servers are running too high on player count or is it still an issue with 16 players?

Another issue I had with Premium is that they didn't tell us what the other 2 DLC is going to be. Not a fan of CQ but I would have gotten Premium if I knew the other 2 DLC is something I would like just for the extra guns.
