This is my thoughts on the new maps: While I enjoy a variety, going from big open warfare maps to close quarters in your face combat adds variety to the game, but I thought the design of these close quarter maps are the weakest of all the maps out right now for BF3.
Yeah, we got 4 maps, but they're pretty much the exact same type of maps--you would think that DICE would have designed each map to have a bit more personality and unique from one another. Even for the smaller maps in the vanilla game, they were unique from one another that offered a varied strategy that you need to utilize. These new CQ maps are 100% gun and run like an old Quake deathmatch map, and on top of that, the maps are very small. I know that DICE is trying to be like COD with these maps, but even the smallest COD maps are bigger than these CQ maps.
The one thing I enjoy a lot is the Gun Master mode--very hectic and you feel constant pressure to try and stay ahead of everyone else, so if I were to look for one fun and unique experience this DLC offers, it will be this mode. After several hours of playing CQ yesterday evening, I got burned out pretty fast on the maps, and spent the rest of the night playing Karkand and Vanilla. I'll definitely jump into CQ, but that'll probably be mostly for Gun Master and whenever I'm looking to swap up the typical BF3 gameplay.
Edit: One more thing I want to say, is that COD's system of spawning is WAY BETTER than what we have in CQ. In COD, you spawn in the area of your captured point, and because of this, you have an idea of what you need to do or where you need to go to defend/capture and coordinate with your teammates. in CQ, you spawn randomly or on your squad, and 90% of the time it's a clusterfuck of deathmatch style shootouts, with ZERO tactical consideration.
