I still can't play more than 5 minutes without crashing to desktop.
Waiting for SW:ToR, I don't think I'll be playing BF3 at all anymore :-(.

Hahah I know what you mean, all I play is engineer, and my longest is 453m. It's hard because the eng guns suck. The SCAR-H in real life will mow someone down at 600m+, but in the game it's a joke. I use it anyway though, as all the eng guns are weak. If they modeled 7.62m FMJ ammo correctly, it'd be much more satisfying. They even make a SCAR-H sniper variant, just a barrel swap and a scope, and bam, 1000m range.

Bah.

eh I dont know about mow down at 600, thats getting close to top of its effective range

but still effective thats for sure

have you swapped backwards in drivers? or forwards?

with the last patch occasionally I get stuck on a black loading screen, forever....but thats not as bad as crashing in game

lol. This patch fixed my black loading screen... I used to always have to alt-tab, kill bf3, then relaunch. No longer do I need to do that 😎

Yeah I should clarify a bit, I saw a show where a Navy Seal Sniper was talking about it, and giving stats on how it performs in the hands of a good operator. Put one in my hands and I'd be lucky to hit half dollars at 250m from a prepared position. Put one in his hands and 600m kills 🙂 But yeah, the round itself still has plenty of punch at that range, it's just a matter of aiming and correcting for the usual stuff. You'd ideally want the sniper variant for that range, but the regular SCAR H will still hit.

It's just that in the game, you can be peppering someone with it, and no bueno. Reminds me of a hilarious encounter I had on Bazaar earlier. There was some guy hammering from some high window near the allied start, and after trying and failing to hit him from across the map with my SCAR H, I pulled out my Scoped 44 Magnum and killed him almost immediately. Silly that a scoped Pistol is better at 200m range than what in real life would be 100x better for the job, but I guess it's all in the name of game balance.

That was happening to me on Friday or Saturday...actually, my machine was locking up. But the next day it went away, and it hasnt crashed since. Did you try deleting your settings directory? I think its <path>/My Documents/Battlefield 3.

For some reason things just get screwed up, and it gets fixed on its own. I think they are tinkering on the backend or something. I can sometimes hear it want to crash in game...the audio gets scratchy and pauses.

I've tried every driver combination, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, I tried working off 2 CPU's, and about a dozen other tweaks and things. None of them work.
I usually just get the "Battlefield has stopped working" error. I have no idea why, and it's not linked to any particular action in the game, but it happens often :-(

I used to experience that... I went to the windows task manager and disabled/end task for ccevtmgr.exe (Comment Event Manager) and mmsseces.exe (Microsoft Security Client UI) and all my Adware and Virus Scanners. Don't need all that stuff when playing BF3... then I launch BF3 from Origin... afterwards everything was fine...

Something is wrong with your system. I never had those problems even without the patch.
Just because you've never had issues doesn't mean it's automatically my PC that's bad.
The thousands upon thousands of reports of similar crashes occuring to other members with completely different hardware setups than mine are strong evidence that my system is not the issue.
Furthermore, I can run several other games that are just as RAM and resource intensive as BF3 on High settings with no issues what-so-ever.
So no, I don't believe my system is the issue.

Planet Battlefield - BF3: Back to Karkand Release Times & R12 Server Info

Monday, 12 December, 2011 at 10:47 PST | ^Scott^ | Print News

The Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion is set to be released tomorrow for PC and Xbox 360 players. Playstation 3 users got their hands on it last week. Below are release times and information for servers owners. If you join a server that has Back to Karkand maps in the rotation and you do not own B2K, you will be warned, but servers can mix vanilla and B2K maps.

Also, there will be maintenance period tomorrow. (1am PST - 2am PST)

Tomorrow between 10am CET and 11am CET we are going to perform maintenance on Xbox 360 and PC.

Back to Karkand Release Schedule

PC digital: starting at 08:00 GMT (12am PST / 3am EST)

15th December

BF3 PC Server R12 is due next Tuesday

BF3 PC Server R12 will be released on Tuesday Dec 13th. The central systems will be down during 0900-1000 GMT.

We will have a downtime for the master servers. The RSPs will begin updating their game servers at this point. Those admins which have had their servers updated to R12 can then add the Back to Karkand maps to the map rotation.

There will not be any client update - all that was taken care of last week.

Server R12 manual is available here: http://static.cdn.ea.com/dice/u/f/bfbc2/tmp/BF3_PC_Server_R12_893642_Docs_ServerAdministrator.zip [static.cdn.ea.com]

Changelog
* General crashfixes
* Fixed problem where kits would remain on the level for a long time (>10 minutes); this would eventually make the server keel over
* The Back to Karkand maps are included

Notice that there are two variations on the Conquest gamemode. The differences are mainly to do with the flags. You will see a "#2" after the map name for a server that runs the second Conquest variation.

Game servers can mix and match B2K and non-B2K maps. Players who have not purchased B2K will be warned if they attempt to join a server with B2K maps in the rotation. Quickmatch will not send those players to servers with B2K maps in the rotation either. The guiding principle here is: if possible, avoid having people get kicked from servers.

The server maintenance is the release, so you can disregard the "official" B2K release time of 12:00 AM PST.

The Battlelog post was updated since Planet Battlefield posted it. I updated it to the current version. The outage is now concurrent with the release, rightly so, as the outage is the release...

That makes more sense. Still, they should take as much time as they need on 12/12 so its ready to go 12/13 12AM PST. If my manager wasnt a BF player I could play all night and get away with a sick day tomorrow. Starting to play at 2AM is asking for it....

Back to Karkland is up and running!! But I couldn't use IE to download and install the new browser plug-in... had to use Google Chrome...:colbert:

Anyhow looks like I'm going to be a Zombie at work in a few hours...D:

After playing a few rounds... this finally reminds me of the old BF and BF2 days... BF3 should've had these maps from the get go...

Paqster - sorry to hear this. If you list your system specs and the specifics of your crash maybe we can help you more.

Hope you can get it running again because it was fun flying with you...don't be seduced by the Dark Side (TOR)!

Karkand rush....cleanup on aisle 4!

Funny, right now only one person on my friends list is actually in B2K...guess the rest of us are actually going to work/school! How about some Tugboat action tonight? Maybe 10pm Eastern?

New Battlefield Blog Post: Back to Karkand out now on PC and Xbox 360!

BY: HBrun POSTED : Dec 13, 2011, 02:00AM

Today, we are rolling out our expansion pack Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand on PC and Xbox 360! Check out this new gameplay trailer from the Sharqi Peninsula map, then follow the instructions below for how to get started. See you on the reimagined battlefield!

Battlefield 3: Sharqi Peninsula Gameplay Trailer

We are happy to announce that Back to Karkand is out now on Xbox 360 and PC! Should you get Back to Karkand? Kotaku asks -- and then immediately answers YES.

If you haven’t followed us before, Back to Karkand is our first expansion pack for Battlefield 3. It features four legendary Battlefield 2 maps reimagined in the Frostbite 2 engine, with enhanced levels of destruction.

More than just a map pack, Back to Karkand also features 10 new weapons to extend your arsenal (you can bring these new weapons back to the base game maps), three classic vehicles from Battlefield 2, including the STOVL fighter jet (excellent for hovering and capturing bases), Desert Buggy, and and APC, five new dog tags, and an added layer of persistence with the all-new Assignments you need to complete to unlock new weapons.

Now go back to Karkand and let us know what you think in the Battlelog forums! To find your new maps, just use Quick Match or the server browser as you normally would. The four new maps will appear together with the nine ones from the base game. For a full guide on how to use the server browser on console, check out this guide we prepared earlier. Just make sure you apply the latest multiplayer update for Battlefield 3, or you will not be avle to access Back to Karkand.

If you are a Limited Edition owner, you are entitled to this entire expansion pack at no extra charge. Otherwise, you can buy it for PC from Origin at $14,99 or for Xbox 360 from Xbox Live Marketplace or the in-game store for 1200 Microsoft Points.
