yeah you can barely strafe or dogfight without getting STUCK in the ceiling and floating into the ground for a crash

That was how I got most of my Jet kills - when other people I'm dog fighting with get stuck and floating...:p

For you nvidia users what driver are you guys using for BF3?

I got yet another hard lock and crash and before i lose it i would love to know what driver you guys are reporting the best of luck with.

I am using 290.36 last driver i used prior was 285.79 with a gt454 i experienced zero hard locks would 285.79 be my best bet?

Nvidia has a 290.36 driver out?! o_O

I'm still using 285.79 and I haven't experienced the hard lock and crash - I do experience server crashes but that is the server and has nothing to do with my PC Graphics Card...

From what you are saying I guess I'm sticking with it... unless they have a new WQHL official driver out (not beta)...

Rolled back to 285.62 tonight .

Man i hope your x4 965 is clocked very high i played with my 1100t and setting the cpu affinity to 4 cores at stock clocks i saw a much lower gpu usage as also a much lower minimum framerate on my gtx570

Still have to toy with this oc on this cpu still at stock now and with 6 cores my minimum went into the 30's as at 3.8ghz it would stay in the mid 40s...quite the hurt.

90% downloaded the 4GB patch. I certainly hope they fixed the lock up issue.

Downloaded the patch and played 5 min in the morning. Game still runs and I noticed music on the splashscreen when loading the map.

Note the lack of the opposing team uncap in the B2k maps. BF2 style head-on CQ is back. BF noobs will learn the shame and defeat of allowing all their flags to be capped, and hoping the lone guy alive can stealth-cap a flag for the team.

I'm using the 290.36 drivers without any issues. 1gb gtx460's in sli at 1920x1200. All settings on ultra except msaa off and textures at medium. With textures on high it was hitting the "lack" of vram. So even though the fps were 50-60 and higher things were stuttering. Back at medium, things are nice and smooth.

In BF2 you could only join a squad while alive, and only spawn on the squad leader.

In BF3, 3 people can move to the alive guys squad. 3 more people spawn and hide. Split to 4 different squads, 12 more people spawn....

Basically, in BF3's main maps, you can easily go from having all flags to having none to having them all again (the ATOT crew had that going on yesterday). Each team in conquest has a permanent spawn. In BF2 and B2K, there is essentially a defending team, a bit like rush, except all the flags are in play at once. So if the attackers are able to fan out and take all of the flags, the defending team is vanquished (unless a survivor can retake a flag) - and it can happen faster than rush, as there are no MCOMs to blow and no particular order you have to take the flags.

BTW, the maps that will work like that are Sharqi, Karkand, and Wake. Oman has permanent spawns for each team.

In BF2 you could only join a squad while alive, and only spawn on the squad leader.

In BF3, 3 people can move to the alive guys squad. 3 more people spawn and hide. Split to 4 different squads, 12 more people spawn....

But this does change everything in regards to the "last man standing"...guess we won't be watching the map from the spawn screen as our sole surviving teammate's icon tries to cap a flag as the ticket count goes down...epic when he did, I tell you.

Yep that is definitely what is missing from BF3!

I seriously doubt they'll keep big Karkand the way it was. How many flags were there, eight? Judging from the other maps, that's not the way DICE is going...

Also, one critical element of gameplay that will be radically changed in B2K on Karkand - the use of C4 to blow bridges. Perhaps they won't even use the rear area of Karkand. Remember, in BF2, not only could SpecOps blow bridges (which I don't believe you can do in BF3), but engineers could repair bridges (obviously none of that going on in BF3 - can you imagine taking a blowtorch to a bridge/building and seeing it reappear???).

Also, on Zargon's point about Sharqi being crammed together, amazingly they added a flag in this map (as if they needed one). It's the one in the upper right, on the way to the TV station (right-most flag). Honestly, that makes some sense given the great distance from TV station to the other flags, but they could have dropped one of the middle ones (specifically, the one on the hill (middle row and second from left).

New Battlefield Blog Post: Back to Karkand #7: Out now on PS3, new gameplay trailer live!

Tuesday, 06 December 2011 00:05

Starting today, PlayStation 3 players can revisit the legendary maps in the Back to Karkand expansion pack! What better way to celebrate than with a new PlayStation 3 based gameplay trailer?

Battlefield 3: Wake Island Gameplay Trailer

This is it! Back to Karkand is now out on PlayStation 3 in Europe, with North America and Asia to follow shortly. We hope you enjoy our new gameplay trailer entirely based on PlayStation 3 footage.

If you have followed the "Going Back to Karkand" blog series, you know by now that it contains four legendary Battlefield 2 maps reimagined in the Frostbite 2 engine. And you know about the vehicles, and that we have ten classic weapons brought in from Battlefield 2. These are a variety of shotguns, sniper rifles, and machine guns that were particularly popular in Battlefield 2.

What you probably didn't know is that Back to Karkand works seamlessly in conjunction with the base game. This means that you can bring these ten new weapons back to the base game. They essentially get added to your existing arsenal rather than being an either/or choice. Also, servers will have the ability to run map rotations with any mix of base game plus Back to Karkand maps. Further, the new layer of persistence with Assignments does not replace what is in the base game – it works in parallel with it. Since you will be able to join mixed map rotations, we will alert you if you don’t own Back to Karkand and try to join a server where one or more maps require Back to Karkand.

You will be notified in-game via a pop-up window once Back to Karkand is live, and you can buy it in the in-game store and the PlayStation Store. PlayStation 3 players will be able to start playing today, while PC and Xbox 360 formats will follow on December 13th.

To start playing on the Back to Karkand maps, make sure you For a guide on how to buy, download and get started in Back to Karkand, head to this simple step by step guide.

PLEASE NOTE: At the moment, we are experiencing issues with the server browser. Please use the Quick Match filter settings to pick the Back to Karkand map and mode you want to play. Going through the server browser right now will match you up with base game maps only. We are hard at work isolating and fixing this issue and will have an ETA on this later. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, using Quick Match will let you select and play on any map, from the base game or Back to Karkand.

Back to Karkand PlayStation 3 release timings

Europe, Australia & New Zealand: Out now!
North America: December 6th, between 2PM and 6PM PST
Japan/Asia: December 7th, around 3PM JST
