The fact that B2K can be mixed in with existing maps makes all the difference in the world. DICE has finally learned its lesson - BF2: Special Forces and BC2: Vietnam splintered the community and diluted the overall player base, in my opinion.

That being said, they could probably only do this because the majority of people pre-ordered. They also know that the stragglers will be forced to buy B2K (against their will?) to avoid being bumped from servers. Win-win-lose for DICE/pre-orders/everyone else.

That big Sharqi image does not show the attackers uncap. Do you think it will be anything like this?

I seriously doubt they'll keep big Karkand the way it was. How many flags were there, eight? Judging from the other maps, that's not the way DICE is going...

Also, one critical element of gameplay that will be radically changed in B2K on Karkand - the use of C4 to blow bridges. Perhaps they won't even use the rear area of Karkand. Remember, in BF2, not only could SpecOps blow bridges (which I don't believe you can do in BF3), but engineers could repair bridges (obviously none of that going on in BF3 - can you imagine taking a blowtorch to a bridge/building and seeing it reappear???).

Also, on Zargon's point about Sharqi being crammed together, amazingly they added a flag in this map (as if they needed one). It's the one in the upper right, on the way to the TV station (right-most flag). Honestly, that makes some sense given the great distance from TV station to the other flags, but they could have dropped one of the middle ones (specifically, the one on the hill (middle row and second from left).

Karkand 7 is there if you read the notes below Karkand 24/64, it was an error by the people who made that guide.

Cool Reddit post: BF3 Patch: Hidden Changes log

So far I've come across a few changes that I am pretty sure were not in the changelog, post any you find here ^

  • 'H' key now changes chat between the following options:
-Hidden (chat does not come up ever)
-Pop-up (old styled pop up when chat is active)
-On (always on)
  • Vehicle sensitivity slider is now in options
  • Joystick sensitivity slider added
  • Separate inverted options for Infantry and Air added
  • 'Tourettes medic' bug fixed
  • Icons/names now flash when using 'Q'
  • Disable threshold reduced to around 37hp for air vehicles [more info on ground vehicles needed]
  • Tower on Caspian now collapses near the end of rounds
  • Player pings now displayed on the scoreboard (your own is not)
  • No longer spawn at main when spawn selection is unavailable [needs confirmation]
  • TV guided on helicopters mostly fixed (just don't move the mouse when you fire)
  • TV guided turning speed lowered
  • CITV look movement tweaked
  • UI.DrawEnable now enables/disables UI
New bugs:

  • End of round scores show wrong Victory/Defeat message.
  • Animations (ladder/knife) are stuttery/jumpy when the network buffer is modified

I would treat it all as unconfirmed, until you see it for yourself, though.

I really miss this about Battlefield. Not just bridges, but all enemy assets could be taken out...artillery, uav, coms. I was trying to snipe on Bazaar, and the ground was shaking so much I couldnt steady a shot. Every support jackass was using mortars to spawn rape. In BF2, the first thing I'd do is go special forces on their butts and blow that crap up, and stay around to take out the engineers trying to repair it. C4 the vehicles as well so they couldnt use them to dominate the game.

If I already have the 'limited edition' listed in my Origin games, will the new pack install automatically? It's doing some 3.9gb install right now, is that the expansion? I'm asking because I don't think I got an extra code or anything.

Ha, ha, yes, those were good times!

Is it just me or do transport helicopters and jets feel more sluggish now?

Oh, noes, are bad times upon those who ride minigun in the Expandas battle bus???

Halfway thru on the 3.9gb patch.

When i launched origin the first thing i got was a error about origin not detecting BF3 but it went right to downloading the update.

Anyone else get this?

Sure hope origin isn't gonna be playing any games today and i reverted to the popular 285.79 driver just gotta see what the update brings:)

Well, got in a round after the patch, I joined very very late in the round, our team was down substantially, and I went apeshit in the LAV and we made a comeback!

Music before the round was vastly improved from a few sparse notes to actual tunes. Everything seemed to feel a bit better, lots of little changes like improved death icon (skull) showing dead teammate location, etc.

In BF2 you could only join a squad while alive, and only spawn on the squad leader.

In BF3, 3 people can move to the alive guys squad. 3 more people spawn and hide. Split to 4 different squads, 12 more people spawn....

Err, right. Sorry, I'm used to hardcore mode, which is basically a pretty close approximation of BF2.

Someone mastering a vehicle shouldn't reduce a server to being basically unplayable. I was on a team of average players on Kharg just now, and their team had several excellent pilots that made it impossible to get out of the base. It hurt that I was seemingly the only one spawning with the stinger, but 1 stinger is currently useless against a good pilot, not even a minor annoyance in the big picture.

The way it is right now, a great pilot can destroy any chance the other team has at doing jack shit unless they are smart enough to spawn with at least 4 stinger engineers. To add insult to injury, those jacktards can fire that 1-shot insta-kill missile from wherever on the map, outside of AA range. AA range should be doubled, and the AA rockets should kill them with a single shot.

Hmm, I donno about changing it. BF3 is the most pilot-unfriendly BF out of all the BF's. A good pilot in BF2 can mean the difference in having your team win or not. In BF2, I used to do 30, 40... and one time, 70 kills per round w/ no death. They never really changed it. In BF3, it's a lot more difficult to get kills, and that has limited me to runs like 10-20 kills per round with minimal death (the difference? I have yet to have a round where I wasn't shot down). It's also A LOT easier to get killed from AA in BF3, compared to BF2/1942/2142.

For those of you who have played with the patch who had connection issues, are you still having those issues? I really hope I don't have to try to connect 500 times before getting in anymore.

Sure hope the one about defaulting back to main spawn is true. Always a pain to have to jog back into battle.

Seems to be working fine. If you have a spawn point selected that's no longer viable the spawn button just greys out until you select a new one. No getting punted back to the main.

Yeah, on balance I guess that's about right. If a team is getting beaten into the ground by a pilot, they probably deserve it because they suck. It does blow logging into a game and finding yourself amongst terrible players, but that's just online gaming for ya.

That one thing does need a slight nerf though, that super long range missile.

I still do this in BF3 - except I go NINJA on them and run into their spawns to kill the mortoring whores or sneak around and knife them - I could care less if I get mob killed or my KD ratio suffers as long as I get my one target..

eh... I normally suicide when that happens to spawn closer... I value speed and getting to the main battle to help my team mates dominate then my K/D ratio

Nope i can't even complain anymore i had the same issue, smooth sailing from server to server today i am impressed.

My rig still needs a ssd to help with load times but nope nothing but good from the patch for me fixed all my problems.
