One of my biggest beefs at the moment is that it is apparently terrible at spawning you. BC2 seemed to do a decent job of not spawning you right in front of enemies, BF3 it seems is very much a gamble.

You choose where you spawn... Don't be the moron that spawns on a squad mate in the middle of a firefight. Shit won't turn out good. The system is just fine.

edit: actually I wish it was just a little clearer on who you're spawning on on the map.

Well I used to dominate choppers back in BF2 but never really bothered in BC2. Today however I was finally able to dust off my heli skills and managed to get a bunch of unlocks. My favorite is still the cobra and I still hate the havoc (too bulky) but just like BF2 gunning in the havoc is great fun. I finally managed to get MVP for a round just capping and stuff in the heli. The other thing is it seems harder to destroy vehicles like tanks and apcs. I have to pretty much empty an entire round of missiles without missing on my target to destroy it, usually it ends up on fire and I only get points for disabling it.

The controls aren't as good as BF2, I used to be able to do barrel rolls and flips and fancy maneuvers but I don't think I want to bother in BF3. I used keyboard and mouse btw.The other thing is the game is very forgiving, I've hit a few trees and hills and yet still survive with no damage.

What I did not have consistently was a gunner, especially on the russian side. If I could get a good gunner I'd probably unlock much faster and it would be a lot more fun.

I've hung around on a couple of servers already, played a number of maps, some I've seen multiple times. Maybe I keep selecting the servers with operators who are fans of big maps that focus on piloting and tanks.

I would like a smaller urban/city map, somewhere where I don't have to don't have to run half a mile to find someone else to shoot at. In BC2, I liked oasis/arica and that heavy snow map (forget its name). In BF2 I liked Karkand.

Can someone tell me the names of the smaller urban maps (and hopefully EA lets 64 people on those, just to intensify the chaos?)

Thanks.

How do you get the basic rockets to hit anything? They seem very wonky and always aim high.

Ehh they are kinda wonky, you just have to get a feel for them. After some practice I was finally able to consistently hit tanks and apcs. Infantry is another matter, I can hit 'em, or think I hit them but some how they end up escaping but I guess that's what a gunner is for.

Played on a server which has instant vehicle respawn all day, makes you wonder why all servers don't have it. It is way more fun, especially with high player counts. Sucks having to run everywhere when the vehicles are all out, but with them respawning instantly makes it much better.

Ok I need help... why are my Freind/foe markers seem to be off and on...
same match same server at times I can see them all and others they are completely off..
this is making it very hard for me to play well.

I just cannot tell who is who without them...
wonder if its a Crossfire problem..

Ok I think it's more of an Eyefinity problem..

I just noticed that friend/foe info is showing perfectly on the 1 displayport monitor.. while the 2 DVI mons are getting none of it.. only problem is the displayport Mon is the left side mon..

so that does me no good..

Checked to make sure the center is the so called Primary display and it is..
but all that data isnt making it to the DVI mons...

I'm going to have to go buy a much longer DVI cable so I can make the middle one the DP mon which it prolly should have been anyway.

Because then there is no sufficient punishment for sucking with vehicles.

I hate that it doesn't let you click on your spawn point. 1942 had that, and I think BC2 had it as well.

Definitely want a link to that server. I hate the complete lack of vehicles in this game. I've never flown a chopper, a plane or anything other than a HMMWV. The experience is supposed to be 50% infantry, 50% vehicle.

agree

People take games too seriously anymore, which is why I was shying away from MP games till this one. I haven't had a very good start to this game. Haven't won a single match out of the 7 or so total I've been though but I'm still having fun. Remember fun? Yeah, I had almost forgotten about it. IMO this is one of the bigger differences in BC2 and BF3. When I played BC2 it didn't really feel like much fun. Win or lose, I really was more interested in playing whatever CoD game I had because it was more entertaining. BF3 manages to keep me having fun even if I'm not doing well. I can't place why either. Not sure if it's the amount of people playing, the map design, or what exactly... but I'm having more fun losing in BF3 than I ever did winning in BC2.

um it absolutely does..
any available spawn is listed there.. you click the name of what you want..

including empty vehciles..

anyway.. moved my entire PC so i could test with the center monitor being the DP.. and ... it's still doing it.. the overlay with all the symbols is only showing on the left monitor.. its like the overlay thinks the left mon is the center..

cant figure it out..

I know this, and I'm talking about spawning at the points. I realize on people it's going to be kinda risky at times, but i hate spawning at point c right in front of a dude and dieing 1 sec later.

My complaints about spawning are, I wish it didn't take so long with that black screen fading away (granted it is like a half a second, but too damn long still when you spawn at a point and it happens to be right next to an enemy gg). I wish you could click on the actual points on the map to select a spawn point instead of just the names on the left, I end up having to click half of them to find the one I want sometimes.

After logging a lot of time in the tanks so far, I have some issues.
Vehicle regen is stupid imo. Sorry but I just find it silly and such. I like disable, how about take out regen and make it so the vehicle has to take a bit more damage then it does now to disable it instead. Also makes taking down jets a major pain in the ass. Using the AA tank isn't exactly the easiest thing with having to judge distance, speed, and direction the jet is heading, so you get hits here and there normally unless you hit a sweet spot or they are pretty close, but those hits don't matter as the the jet ends up regen'n the armor it just lost from those shots, sigh.

Splash damage from a tanks cannon is way to low. I shot in a room and hit the wall midway up in the corner, a dude prone on the ground 3 feet away from the way didn't die? I'm pretty sure the entire tiny room should of been gone, yet this dude is just chilling rubbing one out on the ground.

I've found for the most part, all the maps are pretty good for conquest, except for Metro, as I stated yesterday or the day before, that map blows hard, it is auto win for which ever team starts outside unless they totally blow it somehow. The Mt D or whatever it is while similar in some ways to Metro with the tunnel allows for much more free movement and not a few narrow choke points to control the entire area.

Mortar spam from a recon with someone feeding him ammo, good grief. That is all I'm going to say on that.

Seine river crossing is a good urban map, as is Grand Bazar. Also, consider searching servers for team deathmatch game mode. Played a couple of those earlier today and a little closer versions of the maps which you may like. Faster pace.

Ya, I know, but I want to select the point on the map. I want to spawn, for example, on the squadmate on top of C and I don't know which one that is in the list. It is much easier to click him, but it won't let you.

Also, Where TF is Wake Island?

Ah ha, finally found a fix for the constant crashing. I had to underclock my GTX 580 by about 25%. Less might do the trick next time I try.

No, my card was not overheating, nor was it overclocked to begin with. There are lots of other people on the BF3 forum saying the same thing, and it affects AMD cards as well. Weird.

This morning I was looking into how much a server costs so I could practice flying. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss BF2 single player!

After the crash left Tugboat empty, four of us tested out the party functionality. It's... a work in progress: finding a server that doesn't fill up in the time you wait for everyone to approve the party join is a pain. Also, one person couldn't join through the invite system at all.

Fun when you get it working, though. Until a sudden Battlelog downtime (only a couple of minutes) knocked everybody offline, including the game in progress.

Also, the browser needs a personal server blacklist as well as favorites.
