Here's to a good upcoming season, what about the visor rule discussions in the AHL?????? They are slowly tring to take the fighting out of Hockey....... 🙁
The visor rule is necessary. It will help to keep injuries down, and I don't see why more players wouldn't wear it. I know they argue it makes seeing the puck harder, but there are no bars, and they can see right down to their feet without any obstructions. As an owner I think I would require my players to wear visors, if I'm going to pay you millions of dollars I want you as well protected as possible. From a business stand point this makes perfect sense, get the most play time out of your players and help to minimize injuries.
This all started when a Portland Pirate took an innocent clear to the eye. His eye is gone, and his career is over, a visor would have prevented, or at least helped. He was 20 years old, first season in the AHL, and his career in hockey is now gone. Imagine if that was a shot, NOT just a clear, we are lucky this hasn't happened sooner.
I don't think fighting will be reduced. When players want to scrap they toss their gloves, now they just have to toss that helmet too. Fights still break out in Juniors and they are requred to wear visors. Overall I think mandatory visors should have happened a while ago, but better late than never.
Poor Smith, career over, but at least Anaheim did the honorable thing and agreed to pay his full contract.
And of course w00t w00t hockey
