And why the hell aren't we offering our best veteran leader, in Grier, a contract? I hate you Sabres!

Sabres just signed Spacek.

Or, he didn't do what everyone thought he would in Edmonton, which was be one of their top producers. Although his point totals were respectable, he did it quietly most of the time.

I wouldn't offer him more than $2.75 if I were K.Lowe. He probably wants at least 3.5.

Sammy's overrated.

Watching him in Boston for his entire career gave me fits. He consistantly lost the puck stick handling in the offensive zone. He doesn't have great speed, and he brings nothing to the table physically because of his small size. He's also injury-prone. Even though MOC got hosed when he dealt him to the Oil, I was glad to see him go.

Yeah, he did score some pretty goals, but I don't think he's even worth $2.75mil/year.
I agree with pretty much everything you said, but I would still like to see him with the Oilers for one more year. There was some nice chemistry at times. Right now, everyone is getting inked at way more than they are worth, or so it seems. So while I agree that he isn't worth that much, that is probably what they are offering him - if they are offering him anything at all! :p
With Lupul coming in, and Reasoner signed, there will be a couple guys edged out. Sammy and Peca look to be the first two to go, but we'll have to see.

I can't believe the Canucks wouldn't offer Carter at least 2.5.
Like I said... I'd try to keep that line together but that's just me :p

They probably want to get him down to 2 - 2.5 range but I think he wants 3 million over 3 years. Eventhough he clicked with the Sedins........ I think if you put any half deecent player on that line and he will be like Carter.

Laraque off to Phoenix.

What are you talking about? The Sabres matched the offer, but Grier chose not to stay.

Oh...just saw this too..

Bruins sign centre Mowers to 2-year deal

Anyone know anything about this guy? I can see his stats at TSN, but I've never really heard of him, but I know how good the Wings are at drafting young talent, so I'm thinking this is a positive signing?

Also, what's up with the Sabres?

They get all the way to the conference finals, take it 7 games with Carolina, and now all their free agents are bolting or filing for arbitration?

Also saw this in today's Ice Chips..

The Detroit Red Wings have offered forward Brendan Shanahan one- and two-year deals each worth approximately $4 million per season, almost double the $2.28 million Shanahan made last year. Other teams interested are reported to be Boston, the New York Rangers, Montreal and Los Angeles. - Detroit Free Press and Detroit News

Man, 4 million per season?? Will the B's have enough to match that under the cap?

What's up with the Oilers though..., how come none of their ufa players want to resign with the team after going to the Stanley cup finals???

Reports are that Peca is in talks with the leafs. Hope that goes through for a LOT less then his previous contract (he said he's more interested in the location then money... we'll see), he didn't seem to want to comment on the situation with him and MacT either...

More importantly, does Detroit even have that much cap space left to sign him for $4?? If they did, you'd think they would have spent that earlier on a better goalie.

From today's Boston Herald...

According to a knowledgeable source, the possibility of free agent winger Brendan Shanahan signing with the B?s is now dead. Reportedly, St. Louis and Detroit are in the running for the 37-year-old?s services.

At his alleged asking price of ~5mil/year I'm glad they might be passing. Looks like his agent's trying to get somebody to over pay. Shanny's good, just not 5 million good.

As a St. Louis fan I've been the voice of reason against signing Shanahan for $5.5 mil/year.

1) I could score 40 goals playing with Datsyuk and Holmstrom. We don't have a center anywhere near Datsyuk's ability.
2) St. Louis is rebuilding. Guerin @ $2 mil/1 year is the BARGAIN of the offseason so far. Weight isn't so bad at his price. We need to sign younger players long term (like McKee).
3) I think Shanahan will end up in Detroit unless he takes less than $4 mil to play in St. Louis.

I agree...even 4 mil/year seems steep for someone his age.

Care to explain how I've been annoying? I guess that whole "it isn't official unless meltdown endorses it" bit really got to you. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a Sabres fan. Of course, I want to see 7 wins against Boston next year, and that won't happen if Boston continues to improve.

You, on the other hand, have posted:

Talk about misinformation. I wasn't going to say anything about it because I chose to ignore it, but since you are calling me annoying, I figure now's the time to bring it up. All of our free agents aren't bolting. McKee left because he got $4 million a year, which is way more than he should get, IMO. Of course Buffalo, who have their own self-imposed salary cap, aren't going to match that ridiculous salary. Grier is the only other player on the team to leave, and he left to be closer to family. As far as all the arbitration filings, that happens all the time with Buffalo. Not to say I like it, but they always give very low qualifying offers, and aren't surprised when players want to take it to arbitration. Additionally, of the players going to arbitration, only a few are likely to be paid anything significantly higher than was already offered, with Danny Briere topping that list.

Hey, maybe I misunderstood, but even back in the other thread you said something that bugged me. As for melty endorsing my thread, I'm glad he did, but it's not like I needed it. It's also because in this thread at least, your first few posts didn't really offer anything.

Now, if I misunderstood you fine, then my bad. I've got no problem admitting I was wrong. That being said, my Sabres post was not meant to bother anyone, I was hoping someone would reply who was more knowledgable about the Sabres, and discuss the topic like you just did in your last post.

Now, if I may ask, why couldn't you have replied to that post before all this like you did? How was I spreading misinformation by asking a freakin question? How the hell would I know about Grier's family being the reason he left? The point of this thread is to discuss hockey among ATOT hockey fans, not to simply put down other teams because they aren't your favorite team. As for the Bruins vs Sabres, I like the moves the B's have made so far, but I don't see us having much more success against Buffalo next year, they pretty much owned us every game but maybe one last year.

Hey, like I said, maybe I'm just having a bad day at work and I took your posts wrong...if so, I apologize.

Common now, lets keep this to a friendly discussion. Most of us are conference rivals so a few friendly jabs are expected. :)
