I played the game a little more (2 more hours on top of the 1 hour from the day before)over the weekend. I've gotta say that, so far, I'm not that impressed overall. Some notes:
...Stuff
Aside from the Zeros you mentioned about the protagonist, none of those reasons really bother me at all. In fact, a lot of the reasons people have been mentioning as an annoyance actually attract me more. I really dislike the Mass Effect/KOTOR style RPG and am much more about this style. That plus I hear that the Zeros start to get filled in much better as the game progresses much like some of the characters in previous final fantasy games did (Cloud and Squall come to mind).
I love the two rings idea and I also really like how the immortals can learn skills by fighting with other characters. Voice acting is nice, but scrolling text is still very acceptable to me as long as most cut scenes (dream sequences excluded) involve voice acting. I am also all about turn based RPGs.
I guess in the end this style of RPG is for some people while the Mass Effect style is for others. Both styles can be developed very poorly as well as become a work of art....assuming the game is your style. 😉
How could I be extremely excited for this game if I didnt enjoy turn-based RPGs? In this very thread I stated that very excitment. I actually loved Blue Dragon (another turn-based game from the same studio)--but I guess ME had more of an impact on me than I thought (played it after BD). I love turn-based RPGs, so that isnt the issue. It's the sum of it's parts (overall and so far) that is not doing much for me. It's just boring and uninteresting at this point. Will it get better? I hope so. Can it get better and my impressions change? Absolutely!
Again, I'm only about 3 hours into the game and just got to the skill system tutorial that you talked about. It sounds interesting so I'm looking forward to seeing how this will effect the game.
