As far as Covid affecting kids, this 11 month old seems like they will be fine, after being intubated, but they had to be airlifted 150 miles because the whole Houston area has zero pediatric beds available and apparently they still need observation and care. Must suck if your kid has a hospital emergency of any kind and nobody can take you.

Somewhere in this mess there was a discussion about people who don't want the vax but have had covid, so therefor antibodies. Fair enough on the surface to say everyone's in the same boat.
So the vaxed & those that have had covid have antibodies for some amount of time. When the antibodies start to wane those who have vaxed might need a booster at some point down the road. And the vast majority(probably) would most likely get another shot.
What are the "i already had covid, i'm good" crowd going to do when their antibodies start to wane? Get it again to boost their immune system?
It'll be interesting to hear the reasons then not to get vaxed.

I've got some family & friends that, right now, will not get vaxed. Some have already had it, some not.

I don't know a single person who I know to not being vaxxed except for one guy --- a musician in Russia who caught it, recovered (a bit over a year ago), and I told him he should be vaxxed anyway. He replied he had antibodies, so wouldn't. I replied he should get vaxxed anyway, he'd be better protected. I have no idea what he's done.

If I knew anybody here who wouldn't get vaxxed I'd be all over their recalcitrant/stupid ass.

That's good way to get yourself beat up. If someone doesn't want to get vaccinated, it's their business. What does it matter to you? Don't tell me it's because they can spread the virus. Because delta has shown vaccinated individuals can spread it too. As long as they're taking the same precautions and wearing masks, it's not my business to say what they do to their bodies. I have relatives who are not vaccinated but some are finally giving in because their job is now going to make it mandatory. It's either get vaccinated or lose their job. So they're choosing to get vaccinated because they need the income from the job. But if they were financially independent, they wouldn't get the vaccine. I don't agree with them but I respect their opinion. Many of you lack perspective and respect. It's groupthink hive mentality. Have some respect for opinion of others.

Finally some sanity. I have been following this forum not for any information of value, but to monitor the mindset of the man on the street so to speak.

Post after post demeaning those who don't get vaccinated that surely had to end with the emergence of Delta. I was curious how these "follow the science" folks would change their rhetoric now that the science has changed. They seem incapable of doing so, at least so far.

The above article documenting how essentially all the invitees (all vaccinated) were infected by the asymptomatic host (vaccinated) should be an eye opener. Had the host not been vaccinated he might have had symptoms and called off the party. In addition, each of these cases were breakthrough cases. They are the ones that are most apt to lead to the virus evolving further away from our control by vaccination. It is just like finishing your prescription of antibiotics.

This is not rocket science, if you can approach it with clarity of thought.

OK, clear thinker, what are you thinking? I'm not understanding your point other than you saying why get vaxxed? You are vying for what? Epidemiologist on the next GOP ticket?

The point is Delta has changed everything. Vaccines appear to do a great job at keeping you alive but that is about it.

You are as likely to be infected now by a vaccinated person as a non-vaccinated person, perhaps even more so.

The only reason now to brow beat an individual to get vaccinated is that they are in a group likely to die of covid and you feel this individual is not gauging his risk reward properly and you have a degree of empathy.
 
This is why I am vaccinated, have a mask on in public, practice healthy behavior (cleaning), and keep social distance (no movie theater for now). I am not going to put my guard down until this virus and all of the variances are gone.

I saw with my own eyes how people with no mask and hang out up close in front/inside bars and clubs without a care in the world (as in pre covid). That's how reality will bite them in the behind, hard.

And look like my oversea flight will be on hold, again. Booohooooo.

Barring some comorbidity that PREVENTS a person from taking the vaccine, EVERYBODY should take it, INCLUDING CHILDREN UNDER 12 once the proper dosage is known (the proper dosage for children under 12 is still under testing AFAIK).

Why?

Because it would elevate the countries' herd immunity percentage thus making it VERY DIFFICULT for this virus to get another foothold, even WITH this delta variant: the more people that are vaccinated, the less strain the hospitals have, the less need there is for ANY restrictions.

You can catch the virus from anyone, you have to figure, but getting vaxxed is still super critical in quelling the pandemic. Delta hasn't changed that.

It's not just for the good of the person, i.e. their health. Overburdened medical system is fucking up things for everyone. For instance, I have some things I've wanted addressed by my HMO and have put them off for over 18 months now. Beds are getting sparcer, if I needed one, I might be SOL. It's the unvaxxed covid patient who is apt to get hospitalized, not the vaxxed.

I don't know your sources of info, but I saw info suggesting that vaxxed people with breakthrough cases, while passing on the virus are not doing so to the extent of unvaxxed, or at least not as long.

as far as whether or not to get the vax, I've read so many things both pro/anti ...I just don't know what to believe anymore (personally i got the J&J vax on 3/31 initially i was happy I got the shot... but every so often I question whether or not it was the best decision)

From what's been known to date, the J&J shot is fine (I got it too and I'm not worried beyond some generic baseline). People still keep trying to compare across vaccines, but I'd say that's still inappropriate until a head to head trial or properly controlled real world data is released (at a minimum for the latter).

I assume you know this since you say you're making a big effort to research the issues, but getting a single mRNA covid vax shot subsequent to your J&J would very very likely boost your immunity a ton at this point. I've seen this point made more than once in informed reports.

I did hear that it is likely to further boost my immunity. My struggle is: Is the risk vs reward worth it? One of my biggest issues is What are the long term effects of the vaccine? Simply put... I dont think anyone can say what the long term effects are because not enough time has passed

edit to add : I'm 56 yr old male and what I consider good health for my age ( only issue is borderline slightly high cholesterol high end of normal range)
 
This is what a spokesman for one of our 2 hospitals said today:

"I want you to hear me loud and clear. We have 20-yr-olds dying from this." He said most of the hospitalized covid patients are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and "many of them are not going to survive."

That hospital has 70 covid patients of which 9 are vaccinated and 1 is less than 5 yrs old. The other hospital has 85 covid patients but no breakdown from them.

If you haven't gotten vaccinated, please do.
