I've never understood the "mono" part of the antibody treatments. Seems like they'd want it to be 4 or 5 different antibodies. Attacking just one spot is asking for the virus to mutate.

Monoclonal just means that they are all identical and made from the same cells. If you're administering a biologic, you want them to all be the same. It really has nothing to do with it's potential mechanism of action.

I thought all of them besides Regeneron actually only had one antibody type as well, while Regeneron had two.

Some may be using a mixture of two antibodies, but each individual antibody is monoclonal.

The vaccine rollout here in Canada continues to be a fail. The age restrictions are causing lot of vaccines to go to waste because people who are under the age cannot legally get them.

I get making certain groups a priority, but it should not be excluding other groups in the process. If the vaccines have hours left before they expire at least let anyone get them at that point.

IMO they should setup standby lists where anyone can apply, and they would get called as vaccines that are close to expiry become available.

They had standby lists around here. My uncle age jumped the age restricted line by hanging around at the end of the day at a vaccine location and got one that was for some one who didn't show up. Guess he was all in on getting one.

Interesting, Red squirrels are actually in danger of extinction in the UK, kind of cool to see they're trying to save them.

They are pretty common here though, but wonder what will happen with climate change as it progresses. The black squirrels might make their way here and they are more dominant. Those things are huge, they're like cats lol.

No age-restrictions at all in CT (beyond 16+) .... I'm all set on mine so I have not looked at avail appointments in awhile but I'm guessing readily available.

I think age restrictions are dropped as of tomorrow, all over the US i think? Over age 16 anyway.

Still like 70+ in my area last I heard. All natives can get it though as they are higher risk. Others such as people with diabetes or obesity can also get it.

I wonder if I can gain enough weight to qualify faster than it will take for me to qualify by age. Thanks to Skip The Dishes and all the poutine chip stands that are now open, I may be able to get my vaccine earlier. 😛

I'll cheer you up. I never have had any sort of reaction besides a sore arm for any vaccine. That second shot kicked my arse last night. Felt like I had the flu from hell with cold shivers and achey joints and muscles. Still working it off this morning, only a bad headache now.

I just had my 2nd shot from Pfizer about 2 hours ago. So far so good. How soon the 2nd shot started to kick your behind?

It took a few hours for some soreness at the injection sight for me. Then drowsiness and the next day I was achy and sore all over. That was the extent though. No fever or anything like that. Wasn't too bad. Went to work for a few hours but couldn't hang so I went home and laid down most of the day.

Yeah, the Pfizer shot isn't bad. I just had some joint pain for a couple of days.

My wife and I had our second Moderna shots around 10 in the morning. It was all good, then I woke up at midnight absolutely freezing. The next day we had a zoom call with her family at 11 in the morning. Both of us fell asleep during the call. I got better later in the day and she was freezing on that night. We both were fine the next day.

My son with autism got his second moderna shot and was determined that he would be fine. He kept telling us that he was OK, but we both knew that he was not 100%. He gets this look in his eyes when he is not felling well. The next day when we asked how he was feeling he told us that he was getting better. He made it through and a week and a hald to go for him

When my daughter had her second pfizer shot her feet literally turned white.

COVID cases still surging in Timmins area; 18 new cases reported Wednesday

The Porcupine Health Unit reported 18 new COVID cases Wednesday, after reporting 26 on Tuesday, 13 on Monday and 10 on Sunday.

We stayed below 100 for a long time, and throughout this year it climbed faster and last I heard we're at like 500+ now. That's for the whole region not just my city though.

It is morning here and almost 24 hours since my 2nd Pfizer shot and so far so good. No pain, no fever. Nothing but cuteness and adorable from your truly. 😀

Well, I ended up getting the Rona about a month ago...along with the rest of my family...and seemingly along with the rest of Michigan.

My 3-year-old daughter had the worst symptoms—we had to take her to the ER because she woke up from nap clutching her head and screaming. They gave her extra meds and told us to increase NSAID dosages. She recovered remarkably quickly and is back to her old self, but it was a truly terrifying experience.

I feel pretty certain we caught one of the more contagious variants. We have been extremely careful this whole time.

No, we were all due for a J&J shot this month. Close but no cigar.

Basically, I went there for a pickup order on one of those dates.

Funny thing is I rarely even buy from Walmart. The one time I decide to... covid risk lol. But I did not even go inside, they opened my passenger door and put my stuff on the seat. The risk here seems very low even if the person that did it tested positive. There is maybe risk from me touching things he touched (which I think they're saying is low risk anyway). The risk of airborne for such a short time is low risk too.

But yeah, even in my city I need to start watching a little more now, the cases are actually rising faster.

I’m no medical expert but 95% effective at six months vs hospitalization is awesome news to me.
Also this test happened while the variants are around.

Saw a brief statement by a woman prominent doctor who's been in the news concerning covid, just a few days ago, saying she thinks there's a good chance that no boosters will be necessary, that the current vaccines will confer reasonable immunity indefinitely, variants included. It's not just the antibodies the vaccines induce, the T cells' memory can last many decades.

If there is a multivalent booster available later this year I'd have no problem taking that.

Neither would I.

So one of my friends got COVID last October. Medium case, not light but not terrible. She got her first vaccine shot & got a bad case of COVID for 24 hours, all the same symptoms but worse...and then it disappeared entirely in 24 hours. Very odd.

That's not odd at all. They said that people who recovered from covid, who get an mRNA covid vaccine shot subsequently are apt to experience just that -- a reaction, and that reaction is enough to give them good immunity, enough, in fact, so they don't need the 2nd mRNA shot.

There is some evidence that people who have suffered from "long covid" getting a subsequent vaccination have much reduced symptoms.
