If you do decide to get an RV, you can run everything off a decent generator. We usually go where there's hookups, and they squeeze you in like sardines, so look for state or county recreation areas that have hookups if you go that route. A little more room than the RV parks we go to. We're actually heading to the lake memorial weekend with some family in our trailer. The family will be staying in the cabin and we'll park the trailer on the side.

Initial human safety and efficacy info from Phase 1 expected in June, AFAIK.
Good, that is a huge hurdle for new drugs. A bit scary with everything being fast tracked - but the situation is serious. Higher R nought than H1N1 influenza A - and we know how that worked out.

Seems like even a marginally competent government could buy the pigs at a discounted rate and have the military organize the logistics of moving the pigs to the cities where they would be slaughtered en mass, crudely butchered and handed out to people at food banks. Nothing has to be perfect just a slab of meat with the instructions to burn the shit out of it and eat.

Get rid of the feet and the head and I'd take half a pig for half price literally right now. Leave the bones, I'll use those too.

Sad to see so much waste. Part of the problem is everything is all about liability these days. There's so much they COULD do but they can't because of liability "what if that happens, what if this happens". It's the shitty sue happy world we live in.

Well this is a chunk of good news.

T cells found in COVID-19 patients ‘bode well’ for long-term immunity

Immune warriors known as T cells help us fight some viruses, but their importance for battling SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, has been unclear. Now, two studies reveal infected people harbor T cells that target the virus—and may help them recover. Both studies also found some people never infected with SARS-CoV-2 have these cellular defenses, most likely because they were previously infected with other coronaviruses.

“This is encouraging data,” says virologist Angela Rasmussen of Columbia University. Although the studies don’t clarify whether people who clear a SARS-CoV-2 infection can ward off the virus in the future, both identified strong T cell responses to it, which “bodes well for the development of long-term protective immunity,” Rasmussen says. The findings could also help researchers create better vaccines.

Also seems some people's existing T cells recognize the virus from past cold infections and go right after it perhaps explaining, at least in part, why so many people show no symptoms or only minor ones.

The teams also asked whether people who haven’t been infected with SARS-CoV-2 also produce cells that combat it. Thiel and colleagues analyzed blood from 68 uninfected people and found that 34% hosted helper T cells that recognized SARS-CoV-2. The La Jolla team detected this crossreactivity in about half of stored blood samples collected between 2015 and 2018, well before the current pandemic began. The researchers think these cells were likely triggered by past infection with one of the four human coronaviruses that cause colds; proteins in these viruses resemble those of SARS-CoV-2.

The results suggest “one reason that a large chunk of the population may be able to deal with the virus is that we may have some small residual immunity from our exposure to common cold viruses,” says viral immunologist Steven Varga of the University of Iowa. However, neither of the studies attempted to establish that people with crossreactivity don’t become as ill from COVID-19.

The History Channel is running a marathon of "Life After People". The program is about what would happen if one day all the humans on Earth (every single one) are gone. Most of the man made buildings and structures would start to crumble and fall after 200-250 years. After 5000 years, everything about mankind is very much gone. Jungles, deserts, and nature take over the whole Earth.

I feel like Georgia is slowly returning to normal. I see lot more cars on the road. I see people exercising in gyms. Many of the retail stores are open, and I see cars in the parking lots. I see people dining outside on the patios at restaurants and the tables are full. I don't know why but it makes me happy to see that. It helps that the weather has been almost perfect with clear blue skies and low humidity. It makes you feel good.

The T Cell info is really cool. Hope there's some merit in that.

I'm not sure i understand, why kill off livestock? Farmers dumping milk, plowing under crops i can at least see... those will rot. Can't they just hang on to the cows, pigs, whatever till they can sell them?

I read a story in Omni(i think) that started with the last human dying & it went on about the continuation of Earth & various other animals that rose to dominate the planet. Pure fiction but it was very cool story.

Better yet why cant they donate it all away at least? Serious question.

What its going to cost you money to transport it? Well then fuck you for wasting food that literally millions would greatly appreciate.

Yeah seems odd they need to dump them. Can't afford to feed them with lack of revenue I guess? And yeah there really needs to be better laws when it comes to food and items in general, companies should be allowed to donate extra, and even encouraged to. But with the way things are now there's too much liability BS involved.
