I made a chart using data up to May 16th from JHU for 11 countries, worldometer for Denmark and Portugal's DGS site for Portugal, using a Y-axis with logarithmic scale of 2, starting @ 40 infected cases. Here's how it turned out (click for full picture):
In this chart, the more horizontal the curve is, the better whatever measures have been taken are having their effects. Also, each horizontal line represents a doubling of the previous one so, for example, the roughly 4 horizontal lines separating Denmark from Germany indicate Denmark has roughly 1/16th the number of Germany's cases.
A few notes can be made:
- Denmark and South Korea have almost the same number of cases but South Korea's curve is better, though Denmark's is getting pretty close
- Sweden and Portugal had almost the same number of cases 2 days ago but Sweden has overtaken Portugal since then: as can be seen, it's curve is much worse than Portugal's
- Spain and France are virtually tied in their curves but Germany is better because of almost 3400 infected cases less
- Though Russia's number is worse, i'd argue Brazil's curve is the worse in this chart: Brazil, besides USA, has the highest number of daily new infections in the World but, while USA's daily numbers are trending down, Brazil's are trending up
- USA's curve is lowering it's angle but, and as the various states ease their restrictions, dunno if it will continue this way: USA has had the highest daily new cases in the world since @ least March 26th and, unless Brazil and Russia "catch up", that may not change any time soon

Plenty of people who argue for hardcore gun control legitimately have no idea what they are talking about when they say "assault weapon". Mostly because... the term doesn't actually exist in the gun world.

With how Tyson is handling things, i honestly got no idea anymore about anything like this with companies. They got some major disregard for their employees and i got no issues boycotting their brand just on principle. I don't buy it anyways so there's that! 😀 I knew a few friends who worked there and often times druggies would be sitting in the bathroom shooting up dope and shit, they complained and they never did shit and when my friends went to quit they were BEGGED to stay cause they needed the hands. Yup FUCK Tyson.
I guess a fuck you to essential employees may become the norm? I feel bad for the essentials EVERY single day. I pray for them.

own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. four ruffians break into my house. "what the devil?" as i grab my powdered wig and kentucky rifle. blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. i have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. he bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. just as the founding fathers intended.

So I was wrong. I thought you were referring to the federal stimulus. Stimulus payments should go to everyone living here. They're human beings living in the US and need help too when their work dries up. Many undocumented people pay taxes anyway. It's not the stimulus payments breaking the backs of state governments, it's the lack of tax revenue precipitated by mass unemployment and drops in consumer spending. If you work for a state right now, things are going to get very tight without federal support for state budgets.

i know some people on unemployment getting 4,000$ a month, pretty cool ehh? im not hurting for money and i wouldnt mind even taking 30 days no pay off work 😉 but 10% pay cut when we havnt even got the raises we where promised long ago sucks.

You can't just argue and say something does not exist when it does. That is a stupid way of arguing. I don't know who originally came up with that argument but I see it a lot now when gun control comes up and it's not a way to try to form a case and just makes you look like an idiot. If assault rifles did not exist then what do military use? I'm sure they don't use hand guns lol.
That said there are actual, valid, arguments against gun control such as the fact that criminals would find a way to get the guns anyway, or the fact that most crime is done with illegally obtained guns. Or the fact that any gun can really be used to kill someone so why focus on one style of gun. Now those are actual valid arguments. Saying they don't exist is the stupidest thing. There are literal pictures of them everywhere and I doubt there's some weird conspiracy to photoshop them everywhere.
Even as someone not into guns I've kind of changed my stance on gun control, always been for it but really most criminals are using stolen or otherwise illegally obtained guns anyway and there is a place for these guns, such as people who just collect them or like shooting at the range, or hunters that like a more "tactical" approach and mod their guns etc. I don't see a problem with any of that. I personally think the guns should be legal, but it should just be hard to get them, at least the semi auto and full auto ones. Here in Canada that was pretty much the case, but now they banned a whole bunch of them, and did it in a very dictatorship matter. Even if you are for gun control you should worry about the way they did this. It did not go through parliament or go through any kind of due process. It was a very quick knee jerk reaction done without much thought. There's even BB guns in that list, some that are considered toys.
The fact that these were legal to begin with and we don't have a huge gun problem here shows that the process as is did work. Yeah some criminals will fall through the cracks and there will be shootings like the one in Halifax and that's really unfortunate, but that guy was clearly deranged, if he didn't use a gun it would have been a truck or other method of assaulting lot of people at once.
One thing that actually made me change my stance on guns is the drone laws. That was another big knee jerk reaction. Drones are more or less treated like guns now, and as someone who wanted to get more into the hobby I totally sympathize with people into guns now. It's a hobby like any other. One can argue that no one needs such guns and perhaps they are right, but no one needs 8 prop drones with all sorts of mounted accessories either, but it's a hobby. Both can hurt people if misused. Go after the people that misuse them instead of killing the whole hobby.

It's mostly the old is my guess. Along with many people who have underlining conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. It's why minorities are getting hit so hard. High blood pressure is rampant in the African American communities.
I also think ignorance is another factor. I live in a shore town in NJ. The amount of people who are down here visiting is staggering. Many aren't wearing mask when out in public. A few have outright refused to wear a mask when in the stores. The cops have had to be called. So, defiance, ignorance and stupidity. SMH...
its never going to get "tight" but it does amaze me that people think illegals should get welfare and stimulus checks. i see some people driving new escalades in gucci clothes buying a shopping basket full of soda using food stamps, i guess we cant all have the same opinion but thats why the world is going downhill.

But that's true for all the countries. The only thing "working in USA's favor" for now is that, due to the higher number of people VS European countries, it's death rate is actually much lower than most of them.
OTOH, while most of Europe is seeing their daily death toll number dropping down quite a lot, percentage wise, USA hasn't to the same extent so it's quite possible USA "catches up" to Europe in this regard: it will depend on the success, or lack there of, of the easing of restrictions.

you think ive only seen one person? i see first hand people SELLING food stamps 100's of times and buying drugs with the $$.. sorry if you are so naive you think most people are good people. they even approach me in the store asking if me personally would like to save 50% on my groceries so they can pocket the $$

The post of yours I replied to said nothing about “essential employees.” This isn’t just about essential employees - industries all over the board are asking employees to take pay cuts so the company can survive and the employee can remain employed. The other option is to let people go and companies are desperately trying to avoid that if possible.

Maybe a special bonus or something, but I wouldn't count on it - it may take months or years for companies to get all of their business back. My company stopped making contributions to our 401k for now, postponed raises until October, and did a pay cut but only to our bonuses - our base pay is unaffected (so far).

It was legally coined by the Assault Weapons Ban law which literally defined them by listing specific models. There was no previous classification or category and there is no way to extrapolate their list into more general guidelines.
For example, they list the version of a gun with a pistol grip and not the one without even though they are otherwise identical guns, so you might be inclined to say that the pistol grip is what makes it an assault rifle... but it isn't. There are many on the list with no pistol grip. Obviously the pistol grip changes nothing about the lethality or rate of fire of a given rifle design. Almost everything the list seems to differentiate them with is considered largely cosmetic. The arbitrary banning of "scary-looking guns" while ignoring just as lethal rifles is the biggest criticism of the AWB and a big reason why it was allowed to expire.
Automatic rifles.
The "assault weapons" label is intended to distinguish some automatic rifles from others but the list seems largely arbitrary. There is no definition of assault rifles other than being on the list of assault rifles.
I thought everyone knew this since it's been discussed literally since the AWB was first drafted/proposed and in nearly every discussion since.

Most hand guns are semi-auto (such as the typical GLOCK that is popular with police officers). Many people imply a nefarious meaning to "semi-auto" as if it's somehow different from a typical hand gun, but a typical hand gun is semi-auto.
"Semi-auto" - pull the trigger once, one bullet comes out. Pull the trigger again, another bullet comes out.
When stated that way, a semi-automatic weapon isn't much different from a revolver even.

Great, you've seen a few people do that. Do you really think that the nearly 40 million that received SNAP benefits last year are rushing out to trade their food stamps for drugs? It's pretty naive to think that your individual experience is indicative of everyone receiving benefits through this program.
