To be honest, I do think this will be a good means of testing how good different healthcare systems are.
Of course there are a bunch of factors that have to be accounted for, such as population density obviously plays a factor in how infected a given area will get...
But judging by Italy's numbers (in particular the percentage of deaths per case) is just not looking good compared to other countries (including US)
Just look at our proportion of deaths vs. number of cases to Span, Italy, and UK

Of course, it's hard to judge fully until we have some REAL numbers and accurate estimates which won't be until months after the pandemic is long gone.
