That is 100000% false.

NY state had zero CONFIRMED cases on February 29th. There were definitely people with covid before then.

We are pretty sure our neighbor's friend had it back in January it was just never diagnosed as such. But all of his symptoms and the 9 day duration point directly to covid.

Oh, and it's not called the Chinese virus you idiot.

There were definitely earlier cases but saying your neighbor's friend probably had it is pretty thin evidence.

I'm not trying to really use it as evidence. Just an anecdotal story.

But to think there were no cases at all until people were tested is just asinine.

In the hotspots, (NYC,Westestchester) why aren't they using the tanker trucks equipped with sprayers and disinfecting whatever they can? I'm sure all/most of us have seen videos coming from other countries doing this. Surely it must help even if its just a little bit

Yeah I was thinking the same thing of just giving myself a buzzcut... My hair grows way too fast, so I typically get a cut every 3-4 weeks.

My typical cut is usually 2 on the sides, 6 on top... I figured I could do itself... and if I screw up a bit... oh well! Not going out in public anytime soon :p

This was my first time cutting my own hair other than just light trims. I mostly use the trimmer on my mustache when I grow one sometimes. This time I took it full bore and cut all my hair off. I spent the last few hours cleaning up everything and going over it again for dark spots. Now that I have a military recruit haircut I feel clean....and bald. :D

My son is doing graduate-level work with a team of other students to construct a better model for COVID-19 progression. They have access to good data from other nations and they expect to be done this next week. Should be interesting.

It's a dirty disgusting virus from China. I will call it the Chinese virus. Feel free to be politically correct and give it some stupid alphanumeric name. And, while you're at it, genius, call the 'Spanish flu' that cause that is where it came from (it didn't). The fact that the WHO and liberals are willing to bend over backwards not to hurt the feelings of Communists is disgusting. I bet you also take seriously their narrative that the US Army imported the Chinese virus to China too, right? Americans like you are just sad. No spine.

Ok, you didn't take the hint. Please take your ugly views to the ugly views forum, P&N, but first, please enjoy this all expenses paid vacation we're giving us from you.

One interesting thing to see here is socialized medicine in action. We all know the Chinese are lying and they have socialized medicine. Italy has socialized medicine and their medical professionals are left with deciding who lives and dies with their antiquated equipment. Same with Spain and France. England, with their 'respected' NHS, have over 1000 dead. With the obvious exception of China, all these countries populations are dwarfed by the US yet our death rate is extremely low. Take out the liberal hotbeds of NYC, Washington and California and you won't have a crisis at all in this country. Just something to think about when deciding who to vote for this November. Democrats have swung so far to the left that they want to deepen and widen Obamacare, making it more European. Well, Europe's socialized medicine has essentially collapsed in the face of this pandemic. The world is counting on American medical scientists to fix this mess Communist China handed us and it is only here that encourages investment in medicine. Democrats are intent on destroying those incentives.

Just to add insult to injury, the Chinese are now in Italy to 'help' them there and the deaths keep skyrocketing. Two socialized medicine is worse than one. And all this after the EU abandoned Italy. Everyone is on their own in Europe and the culprits are trying to score political points.
America has the steepest infection graph seen so far. If I was you I'd stop trying to push some political dogma and realise that this is going to hit everyone regardless of ideology.

Compared with Trump, Mr Bean would sound like a professional.

My honest impression is that Biden appears to have good and bad days. He can speak clearly and intelligently when he's in his comfort-zone, but I guess he stumbles when its something that's outside of his really-old-dude world-view.

Trump's days, on the other hand, are all bad. He's a ridiculous and increasingly dangerous man. He's going to get a lot of people killed.

Well I guess we know how the Native Americans felt when we invaded their world with smallpox.

I was puzzled by a mysteriously-not-banned poster's comment that China 'has socialised healthcare', because I remember meeting Chinese people in the '90s and their commenting that China has nothing like Europe's socialised healthcare system, not even the level of it that the US has. In general, at least then, poorer rural Chinese people couldn't afford healthcare, which had all been privatised. Certainly I recall seeing accounts of poorer Chinese people dying of cancer because they couldn't afford treatment in the new private system.

But looking at wikipedia, it seems I'm out-of-date, and that since 2006 China has made some efforts to roll things back slightly and use state intervention to make healthcare a little more affordable for rural and poorer Chinese people. It doesn't really have fully socialised health-care though.

Not saying Dari isn't an idiot, but Chinese isn't a race and nothing he said was technically racist. Xenophobic and predgidice, yes, but not racist.

When I heard about India 21 day lockdown, I wondered how that's going to work in a country of 1.3 billion people. And it's not as if people had time to get ready. India basically gave its people like half a day to get ready. It's like PM Modi gave zero thought about any planning and what this surprise lockdown was going to do to the poor in the country. It's obvious he doesn't give care about them. It was sad to watch the video in the BBC article.

I had a Chipotle delivery ad playing in the middle of the article about a country of people struggling to get food

I've been noticing that a lot of people from the NYC area are now "vacationing" in my hometown on the Connecticut shoreline. They usually don't start showing up until June, but they showed up three months early this year. All of the vacation rentals are now occupied, and the locals like myself are kinda worried that they might have brought more infected people with them.

What I don't get is why they picked Connecticut as their vacation destination to avoid getting infected. This state already has a bunch of cases in the western area of the state, and already has a "Stay At Home" quarantine order in place. Personally, I'd pick a place like Wyoming or Montana where you can get a place with a few dozen acres away from other people.

My hunch is that Trump is considering putting New York under full quarantine because of people like these.

I'm probably out of date also, but China's social safety net is extremely minimal and thus their household savings rate is INSANELY high.

In this case of the novel coronavirus epidemic, they probably pulled out all the stops to suppress the infection rate. This necessarily includes free testing and treatment IMO.

Discussion and debate should only be allowed when everyone agrees with you.
Xenophobic screeds are not discussion nor debate, if you're referring to our new vacationer.

If you bring an argument, expect to be brought to task regarding that argument. If you cannot put up without trotting out complete garbage and presenting it as debate, expect to get slapped down.

Plenty of political opinions have been brought to this thread. The difference is that people didn't go to their corners and respond like children or say "WHAT ABOUT <this other topic/person/political debate>?!"

Hey... I don't blame them. If I had the money to escape to a private island in the Caribbean, I would! Sticking around and waiting for New Yorkers to start rioting when they can't get their $12 cocktails and Caramel Macchiatos anymore is foolish.

If it gets to the point of hospitals not having enough room for you then you can damn well bet a lot of people are going to go somewhere else on that alone.

Maybe the govt could revive the fast and furious gun program for NY and we could transfer some wall funds.
