Pritzker orders all bars and restaurants in IL shut. Drive thrus can operate. Possibly others do delivery only.

The situation at ORD is so dire that Chicago Fire Department personnel will be deputized as federal agents to work the immigration hall.

WTF is going on? Didn't Trump & Co. promise million + beginning of last week, i.e. by Monday or Tuesday? Last I heard they're making the same promise for this coming week, i.e. we'll have million + testing kits available this week. What happened to last week? Never happened? This does not inspire confidence in the people whose job it is to protect us in a pandemic
i agree he should either be making the tests himself or putting people that fail him to death. you do know that 1 million tests wont mean 1 million people tested, also it seems to take time to get the test read, i know someone at my work was tested last thursday and they said they will get the results on tuesday hahah. i think ny has the most cases because they are testing the most people.

why would people want to eat out / drive through or not? cant you get this by eating the food? i even recook things that i didnt make myself, but i guess i will need to do further research on that.

Musicians are getting hammered. Venues are shutting down all over the place.
Very few music venues are not shut down in the S.F. Bay Area. The ones that haven't declared their shows cancelled for now are monitoring the situation before deciding what to do.

Because you'll destroy the economy and eventually cause even worse problems like riots.

I just disagree. The economic damage of getting to the point where your health system collapses will be greater. I suspect the choice is not over 'economic damage or not' but over where the cost of the economic damage falls. It's profits they are protecting not 'the economy'.

Boston's mayor has declared a "public health emergency": all restaurants and bars must cut capacity by 50% and prevent lines from forming; anyone in violation will be shut down for 30 days. In addition, restaurants without takeout service may now offer takeout service without a license.

who gives a shit about musicians they are rich they dont need to make more money, also why would people want to go to a concert during these times, and BTW gatherings of 250 or more are banned so is the concert 249 people?

In a dramatic move bound to have profound social and economic impacts, Governor Gavin Newsom late Wednesday night ordered Californians to cancel or postpone gatherings of 250 or more people statewide to slow the spread of the disease through at least March. Newsom followed up Thursday morning with an executive order and made clear during a news conference that he considers the directive to be mandatory.

After the display south Boston put on yesterday I think that Walsh may just have to order everybody closed in a day or two.

I'm sure he's talking about small gig musicians since the bars and such are closed.

The economy is already on shaky ground as it is.

You also have to realize that a quarantine is basically martial law. Do you trust your Governor to lift the quarentine? Do you trust Trump?

Yeah, people are really fucking stupid: they think it's no big deal. At least if you want to go out, have some common sense and keep some distance between everyone (eg - don't try to get packed into places, don't form tight lines while you're on a stupid pub crawl).

This model helps to illustrate why social distancing can work - but it really needs people to all take part: https://www.washingtonpost.com/grap...-main_virus-simulator520pm:homepage/story-ans

Im super confused about if you can get it from eating food that was improperly handled. LIke a burrito they cook the inside then they touch the outside as they wrap it, or a pizza that was baked then breathed or coughed or sneezed on, internet sites say you cant get it from cooked foods but that you can get it from touching your mouth nose or eyes. so... how could it be both touch your mouth you get it but eat the pizza with sneeze and dont get it !? i always have been avoiding others food they cook but now even a nice piece of cake offered to me i say nah dont want it since im wildly confused about it. others tell me no you cant get it from eating something but if someone spits in your water and you drink it, how is that so different then touching a door knob then touching your mouth. maybe someone can school me.

It's not quite martial law - it doesn't have to involve the army. Furthermore there is a lot that could be done well short of a complete lockdown. A massive increase in testing and contact-tracing would be a good start - if someone can be told they definitely have the virus they are going to be much more likely to be careful not to go visit their grandparents than if they just think they've got a bit of a cold (or nothing at all, as people can spread the infection before showing any symptoms).

Then there are restrictions on large events or gatherings. A full quarentine, with everyone confined to their homes, is where you may end up if you don't do any of the intermediate measures till it's far too late.

The economy is going to take a massive hit from all this whatever we do.

It's a respiratory illness. It needs to be breathed in or get in through the various mucus membranes your face holes have, hence why you want to avoid touching your face and cough/sneeze into your elbows to avoid sending droplets which are the carriers of the virus everywhere. And the hand washing works because this type of virus is kept together by a lipid membrane. Soap has properties that allow it to mix with both water and lipid chains, making it highly efficient at disrupting these viral membranes and effectively killing the virus on surfaces.

Alright then the Fed is breaking the glass. Rate slashed to near zero and bond purchases to start in earnest.

My crazy mother said something similar earlier today:
"I, wldn't-be, eating-fast-fd, right-now!"

...then continued on to talk about stocking up on Church's Chicken and freezing Taco Bell quesadillas for times of need:
MnDpesC.jpg

"IF Church's=open, please, p-u, at-least, an-7-pc-box, SO, we-can-hv-it, w-brwn-rice."

"Meant, 8, or-10-PCs."

"You, can-freeze, TB-guesadillas, &-a LOT/stuff. WHEN, u-coming?"

Ugh. I refuse to respond to this kind of insanity but she just keeps going.

I guess stocks will celebrate for one more day before traders come to grips with reality on tuesday.

Or they'll take this as an unmistakable signal that the economy is freezing up at a speed without any precedent, which would be the truth.

sorry but you didnt explain how you can get it from touching your face but not from eating it / drinking it. if you cant get it from eating or drikning washing your hands sounds pointless just lick your fingers all you want you can not get it from eating the virus right? ha

1) The virus is transmitted by droplets coming from infected people's respiratory system - unless someone is coughing all over your burrito, then you rub it on your nostrils, you'll probably be okay
2) If your food is prepared safely, it shouldn't be covered in virus. Plus, eating and drinking doesn't provide ready as much ready access to those mucus membranes on your face and your GI tract does a pretty good job of killing things that enter it from the mouth

As for an addition to #1 - those droplets often land on other surfaces that you touch, or people sneeze into their hands then touch surfaces that you'll touch, which then puts virus particles on your hands. That's why you want to avoid touching your face - don't give the virus a means to get from a doorknob onto your face.

Now this is just getting crazy with some restaurants and bars closing in south Boston and Hoboken mentioned earlier. Don't live in those areas, I'm in San Diego CA but I guess I have to look forward to the same thing. Just when I have extra funds to spend for restaurant meals downtown.

ATTENTION !

ATTENTION !

ATOT EFFECT REQUESTED:

You know, that guy, who scalped every bottle of disinfectant in Tennessee and then tried to sell them for x40 times as much on eBay and on Amazon, and they shut him down AND the govt sent him a cease & desist from the trading standards requiring him to turn in all his supplies

Yeah, THAT GUY.

Well, now they made a song about him. A great, catchy, singy-alongy song that y'all need to go an' thumb up for me

CA Gov Newsom says everyone 65+ should go into home isolation. All bars, clubs, etc to be closed. Restaurants go to 50% occupancy.
