So my grandparents were in the Dominion Republic and they made it back and are in self quarantine. Canada will be closing the border soon so they're urging anyone outside to come back while they still can.

Been off since Wednesday, heading to night shift tonight, will be interesting to see what the verdict is for if we'll work from home.

This is interesting time for sure and one for the history books. It's almost surreal what's happening. Entire countries all over the world are shutting down. Incredible.

. She tried to convince me that it's mostly an old person's virus, and since I'm younger I don't need to worry. True, but 40 somethings are still getting infected.

Currently more than 25% of the cases in FL are people 40 or under.

funny they are even testing people under 40 and they got up to 25% impressive to me. i wonder what the real number of infected is compared to the tested positive number is.

is it 115 cases in Florida that are actually confirmed? so whats the real number of infected.

The good news with all of this is it's probably greatly reducing pollution output. I wonder if this could be enough to let nature (trees etc) catch up and we'll see a great drop in CO2 levels. Could be interesting.

In a way this may turn out to be a good thing in the long run. It gives us ways to deal with similar situations in the future. In the end the world will end up with more experience in the modern era and thus more prepared with proactive measures.

Hopefully. :)

I'm not talking about trees growing you dimwit. I'm talking about filtering the air. Though given it's winter I don't think they are filtering the air anyway come to think of it... But nature as a whole does have ways to filter out CO2 it's just that we are polluting at a faster rate than it can keep up with which is why we are at a climate crissis. But MAYBE with the reduction in pollution right now it might actually be enough for nature to catch up. Not saying it is though, it probably isn't. but it's an interesting thought experiment. They are already seeing a huge reduction of pollution in China right now it's like night and day.

My grandparents have been out of the country since before this event even started. They came back because of this event. So technically they did follow "my" advice. BTW that advice comes from the government: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-hea...us-infection/latest-travel-health-advice.html

I know some people don't always trust the government but when it comes to stuff like this, normally you should follow what they say.

One thing this virus is going to make me do is to plant my vegetable garden this year. Normally, I don't bother because it's cheaper and easier to buy fresh veggies at stores. But with the coronavirus going around this year, I'm concerned the fresh veggies I buy and consume could be infected with the virus. I know I should be more worried about things like E.coli and Salmonella from fresh veggies but we have also never seen virus like COVID-19. It's scary to think this virus can live on surfaces for days. I can grill onions and mushrooms for my burgers but what do I do with fresh lettuce and tomatoes? Should I put that on the hot grill for couple seconds to kill any virus or bacteria before adding it to my burger?

We have been reassured we won't have a supply problem for toilet paper lol

I always keep 2 month of TP so I wasn't hunting for them but I have yet to see it in stock anywhere since Wed in GTA.

The TP factories are doing ok the main issue is supply chain. It takes lot of room so stores can only stock so much and the minute they get new stock people are already in line for it.

Hopefully this TP frenzy dies down by the time I actually need some.

CO² is technically not a pollutant but there's also no way trees can catch up:

I'll try to find the post. They didn't necessarily say they will but they are basically saying to come back while you still can so to me that does hint at them maybe closing it.

Edit: this is not the one I originally found but does talk about the possibility: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-canada-idUSKBN2120VF

The actual covid19 situation here is not too bad so your family should be fine. They're just taking more precautions.

i enjoy how you call me a dimwit, most of the oxygen is produced from coral reefs, then algae then trees etc. it sure sounded like your advice had nothing to do with the virus and just that "everyone should stay in their own country stop traveling around bla bla"

Yup here is your quote "EVEN WITH OUT THE VIRUS WHY ARE PEOPLE TRAVELING THERE is plenty to see in your own county" hahahahahahah

Yeah I kinda figured, wishful thinking I guess. Either way this great drop in CO2 and pollutants in general is probably still good to some extent but only short term I guess. Basically with cruise ships pretty much halted, lot of air travel halting, factories in China and perhaps even cargo ships that's a big chunk of the world pollution. Cars and gas appliances are still running at normal capacity though.

368 deaths in Italy in the past 24 hours... scales to about 2000 for the US population. And Italy has not peaked and has a strict lockdown. And people around here are STILL being ignorant and selfish. Why the **** do so many people need to wait until it's too late? Too many people still out at unnecessary luxuries "too good" to care for social distancing.

Because you'll destroy the economy and eventually cause even worse problems like riots.

It's already destroyed.

Assuming the news out China is legitimate now, an 8 week long draconian lock-down is actually the best outcome for the economy if that's your biggest concern. Anything less stretches this out and worsens the economic damage.

So one of the biggest PITA right now is the lack of available testing. Was on a couple of calls today and all of them had at least one "A person in this area may have had COVID-19" but was either waiting to be tested or won't be tested because they were deemed not 'high risk'. Meanwhile the hundreds of people who were in that area or around the person are like 'wtf do we do now?' "Sit at home and see if you get worse" is not a great answer but its what we have. Not to mention the logistics impact of dealing with a building that may or may not have been infected and the time wasted disinfecting it if the person wasn't really infected.
WTF is going on? Didn't Trump & Co. promise million + beginning of last week, i.e. by Monday or Tuesday? Last I heard they're making the same promise for this coming week, i.e. we'll have million + testing kits available this week. What happened to last week? Never happened? This does not inspire confidence in the people whose job it is to protect us in a pandemic

ah, so that's what human garbage looks like. Maybe he'll reconsider his "business" if his family ends up homeless.

Considering the timing of when he started this (2015) and leaving Air Force as tech sergeant, he probably was able to take advantage of the early retirement the Air Force was allowing in 2013. And/or medical. Guarantee this guy didn't get out without a steady paycheck.
