I just disagree. The economic damage of getting to the point where your health system collapses will be greater. I suspect the choice is not over 'economic damage or not' but over where the cost of the economic damage falls. It's profits they are protecting not 'the economy'.

Would rather see the economy temporary take a hit than for this to grow to an uncontrollable level.

so no need to wash hands and eat out of the trash is OK, great! i dont put my fingers in my nose or eyes anyway, sure hope your information is correct, i have heard others saying the same thing that eating it is safe, but shiet doesnt make sense to me, kiss anyone you want this is great news if its actually true.
If people are sneezing all over your food, you have potentially many bigger things to worry about than just COVID-19. I also don't recommend eating out of the trash. You may not get a respiratory infection, but you will likely get some sort of nasty GI bug instead.

Basically, wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face if you haven't washed your hands, and keep eating food.

My crazy mother said something similar earlier today:
"I, wldn't-be, eating-fast-fd, right-now!"

...then continued on to talk about stocking up on Church's Chicken and freezing Taco Bell quesadillas for times of need:

Ontario go'vt isn't considering a lock down yet. Fuck. They need to start locking shit down today.

Yeah some stuff like schools have been closed but not colleges and universities last I heard. I really think they should just shut down everything including work at this point.

So let's see how many companies/services have emailed us about how they're making it safe for us...

Hotels.com
Marriott
Hyatt
Hilton
Td Bank
Chase
Local tennis place, hockey rinks
Taco Bell
Car dealership
Bank of America
TripAdvisor
Water district
Speedway
CVS
TGI Friday's
Avis

All in the last 5 days. We get it. We don't need to hear from everyone we've ever interacted with. At this point it's like if they don't send something they're afraid it will appear as if they don't care...

I swear, this is the equivalent to a reply all email chain. Tag, you're it.

I know, right?

Maybe it's an adaptation to her iPhone auto-correcting as soon as she hits space... but I think it does that with hyphens too so I dunno. Some of her abbreviations are significantly more difficult to type than the actual words they substitute for.

I'm surprised this was as legible as it was. It's usually orders of magnitude worse. I've told her several times that I will not try to decipher her texts so she may as well stop trying and just call. If anything, she's doubled-down. Told her I wouldn't even try to read them but I caught that bit about "fast food" from the notification banner and killster1's post prompted me to go back and look.

The TP factories are doing ok the main issue is supply chain. It takes lot of room so stores can only stock so much and the minute they get new stock people are already in line for it.

Hopefully this TP frenzy dies down by the time I actually need some.
TP is so far down my list of worries I lost sight of it moons ago... . Sheesh, peoples!

Yeah I really don't understand it. Out of all the things to hoard during the impeding threat of everything closing you'd think it would be non perishable food.

If shit hits the fan and all the people that hoarded TP have no food I'll trade them a can of soup for a roll. :p It's basically going to become a currency.

everyone with the toilet paper talk, its just a convenience no one wants to go to the store and not be able to buy tp so they buy it in bulk usually once twice three times a year? when its out its super annoying as most people dont go try to get it until its needed. my coworker said all he has is 2 rolls in each bathroom, then he went to buy it and its gone. im sitting on 70 rolls and could have bought more, i only buy bulk a few times a year and bring my SUV the rest of the time i bring a 4 door car that i wouldnt want to try jam 30 rolls tp in. i bet its back in stock loads of places in just a few days.

i have been fairly aloof when it came to the coronavirus. it's a more-dangerous flu, it kills old people, society is not going to collapse, and all the various ‘in the end who fucking cares‘ things. But i have friends who are exposed, a mother who is immunocompromised, my workplace demands 24/7 coverage (they are not assholdes, but they are an EMERGENCY line), and right now my conviction is beginning to wane, I'm worried about my friends, I'm worried that people are gonna get hurt, and i don't want to see people close to me fucking DIE. How did the internet make me so callous about things this real?
i don't know what to say. Im scared and I've never been scared before.
I look alright but deep inside I'm worried about everything.

I don't want to be a downer so ill leave you with italians singing from their balconies.

Yeah, THAT GUY.

Well, now they made a song about him. A great, catchy, singy-alongy song that y'all need to go an' thumb up for me

I have a doctor friend who works at a hospital in Buffalo area, he texted me this today:

"The doc I'm with today her best friend is a pulmonary critical care physician for the New Orleans hospital system and they have 65 hospitalized covid patients right now "

If that's accurate then there should be thousands of infected in New Orleans, possibly many thousands

Same friend texted me this:

"So at (the hospital) we have 3 different ICUs. It totals to I think 35 beds, so that's 35 vented ICU rooms. There are regular days where 35 of 35 beds are taken just due to normal sick people. If we get even just 10 real sick cases here we are F***'d. Especially because these covid patients are vented for long periods."

And

"And they wanted these virus patients to be 1:1 ratio with one ICU nurse? We barley can staff a 6:1 ratio. And then as staff get sick and/or quarantined it'll be even worse. We are so dysfunctional on a regular basis. Health care system is so bloated and broken"

He's not a nurse he is more of a management position so I believe he knows what he's talking about

It's crazy how easily this thing spreads. I know we live in interconnected world but this doesn't pass smell test.

What's funny is that it's a ghost town EVERYWHERE except where the food is...restaurants & grocery stores are PACKED!

All California bars, nightclubs, wineries and brew pubs will be closed because they are "a non-essential function," state Gov. Gavin Newsom said during a press conference Sunday.

Restaurant capacities must be reduced by half to practice social distancing, Newsom said.

hey so cool, who cares about bars anyway? mindless drunken idiots imo

And why does it not pass "the smell test" for you?

It seems that many are contagious before they show symptoms. That would make it much easier to spread, since they'll go out, thinking they are just fine.

Another random covid19 thought I had today : So we have the seasonal flu right? I guess the reason the seasonal flu survives a season and makes a comeback the following year (and mutates into new strains) is due to its massive uptake around the planet, it simply moves round the globe, round and round and round it goes.

Could Covid19 become a seasonal thing?

It mutates.
