In general I have a good amount of TP just... to have, ya know? Basically I keep a package of rolls in all of the bathrooms in general just because it's not something I've ever not going to use...

But I cannot for the life of me understand why... of all things... TP is the first thing people are worried about getting enough of lol.

Food and gas alone sound more useful. I know it wouldn't be fun, but worse comes to worse, I'm sure folks can find someone else to wipe their ass with. Or buy a bidet or something, christ.
My guess? It's because you know things are bad when society reverts to wiping with their left hand, so it's a major line for societal collapse in the minds of many. Even after an apocalypse, people want to feel civilized.

It's just freakin' hilarious that people imagine it could ever be that bad because of a flu-like illness that kills ~3.4% and has a vaccine on the way. Granted, I bet those people China sealed in their apartments will wish they stocked up on TP is they stop getting supplies delivered to them. ;)

Didn't buy TP myself but I remember seeing a preper video many years ago where some dude was hiding commercial toilet paper rolls in giant tubes in the rafters over his garage. It was the kind of rolls that go in a dispenser and have a diameter over 2 feet. He was saying something like "get exponentially more than you'll ever need because the last man with toilet paper reserves will live like a king."

Speaking of commie china, it is trying to stop foreigners bringing corona virus back into mainland china - https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/05/asia/china-coronavirus-imported-cases-overseas-intl-hnk/index.html

There is also growing criticism online against other governments for their allegedly slow response to control the outbreak. Both sentiments have been played up in state media.

Slow you say? Look what happened to that chinese doctor by chinese authorities when he tried to pull the alarm. Who tried to hide everything under the rug until the problem in Wuhan grew so big and so fast? Uh huh.

If we lived in a rational world, all world governments would halt non-essential international travel for a month, until this shit was in the bag.

Unfortunately we all worship the almighty dollar, so full steam ahead.

That's literally all anyone does or has on a cruise ship. It's just a giant floating vessel with tons of obscenely stupid drunk people. It was pretty lame IMO.
I have never been on a cruise ship in my life. I'd avoid them like the plague right now! :D The only cruise I'd consider (NOT NOW!) is Alaska, but I think I heard I can do Alaska without getting on a cruise liner and still have the experience. I'm gonna do my researches.

I don't understand why so many publications are looking at China's declining case numbers as a sign that they have this under control. Isn't it pretty much assumed that China has been heavily editing these numbers? Isn't China's economy still extremely crippled at this very moment?

And even if China's hardcore quarantine efforts have somehow prevented all but a handful of new cases each day, what do you think will happen when the government truly forces people back to work again? The virus will easily find its way back into the general population and create the exact same situation over and over. I really don't believe this is even remotely under control in Hubei or any of the other provinces.

Yep :/

The only way to conceivably be 'done' with it would be to literally spray and infect the entire population deliberately (with both known common strains) take whatever hit you are going to take, and then hope there are no further strains that swing back around. In 4-6 weeks you'd have quite the death count, but you'd also have solid enough immunity in the population to return to relatively normal operations once you got through maybe the biggest mass body disposal in history. 40+ million dead in China @ 3.4%+ CFR?

Work stoppage and quarantine just allows the hospitals to get caught up. Apparently, there are empty beds now. I also read someone state that the number of infections reported was accurate, but we know that's not the case anywhere.

The first case reported in TN was from someone who was on a flight to Nashville from Boston 4-5 days ago. It's already swimming in the general population here. I'm really curious how bad it is when it's *mild. Mild sometimes is just tomato sauce.... sometimes there's a few chipotle peppers added...sometimes a jalepeno...

Today Wall Street Journal (3/5/20) has a front page story about how doctors and nurses in mainland china did their best to stem the tide, especially before and during the Lunar New Year, when almost no one knew anything about this virus. Most of them worked hours on end and did what they could with what they had.

If they were working that hard, then sounds like trying to contain this seems pointless...

LOL

A coronavirus email to government staff offered help with planning their 'demise'.
...
It says: "As a business we are getting routine updates, which are being shared to the wider team."

"Should, as part of your preparations need us to consider something more specific to your demise, ISS are happy to do so."

in this case, 'demise' is not intended to mean untimely death.
Instead, it is intended to mean a physical working area.
We had no idea either. Apparently it derives from an old French word describing a Lord's land, and it's a frequently used term in facilities management.

Never heard the word used that way before. You learn something new every day, I guess.

Cruises are perfect for your typical fat lazy American. You don't have to do a damn thing and get to go see various countries with the least amount of effort. And the whole time you can eat and drink with other fat lazy Americans so you feel right at home.

Then when in port, you don't have to do anything either. The ports are typically setup so you just step foot off the ship and people are there to do everything for you and take your money.

I've never been on a cruise and probably will never go on one. I do know though when I'm on islands and I see cruise ships in port, I know where NOT to go.

Except for the last time I was in Grand Cayman. My wife wanted to eat at this restaurant on the beach that is apparently a huge cruise stop. When we went in, they asked us if we were "local" and I was like 'we are here for the week' and they let us in for free. People who were with the cruise had to pay like $2/person to get in or something. Then like 30 minutes after we were there, we saw these vans roll up and drivers got out with signs they held above their heads, and all the cruisers were rounded up like cattle.

Being in Grand Cayman for a couple of hours and having to leave sounds like a nightmare. But hey, at least you can tell everyone on Facebook you are now a Grand Cayman expert and know everything about the country since you were there for 3 hours!
so funny cruise expert has been on zero cruises! ive never been on one because you hear of the whole ship getting the neurovirus like with disney cruises, also they force you to do minimal stops and im more of the kinda person that likes to choose everything i do everything i eat how i sleep and when!

funny i went back and bought 1000 pounds of rice from the Asian market, then at work listed them for a small mark up and people have been going crazy buying 25-100 pounds at a time :p

i have two gallons of hand sanitize from 2 years ago when i had a preme child (very big and strong now) but never used much of it ;P maybe i can figure out a way to put it in smaller containers to keep in the car. Have 50 containers of sanitize wipes but it says you must soak the counter for 30 seconds for it to effectively kill the virus, even kills hiv. Some virus take 1 min of contact time to kill hydrogen peroxide wipes from clorox. i wonder how long it takes bleach wipes to kill.

This needs to be posted anywhere and everywhere in the US, not just for this virus but for daily day to day practice, especially them dirty pigs that never wash their hands after using the bathroom, even after taking a dump.

Spread good hygiene practices
Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough, avoiding touching your eyes or mouth with your hands, and being cautious of the surfaces you touch can make a big difference.
Countries across Asia launched public awareness campaigns, with governments spreading tips on how to keep good hygiene.
The best prevention against the coronavirus is still washing your hands. Here's the proper way to do it
The best prevention against the coronavirus is still washing your hands. Here's the proper way to do it

In cities like Hong Kong, people have taken to wearing gloves when they go out, and using disinfectant or alcohol wipes to regularly clean surfaces. One common practice is to cover elevator buttons in buildings with a plastic sheet, making it easy to disinfect the surface every few hours.
In places where schools have yet to be suspended fully, some schools do daily hand-washings -- all students line up to wash their hands before meals or at the end of the school day.
Similar institutional campaigns an higher personal awareness among citizens can help prevent and contain the spread of the virus globally.

It's true, I don't really feel that bad for him... he lives a life of traveling the world with no responsibilities. I think he's mainly in a bad place because his girlfriend sprained her MCL while they were skiing and she's grumpy and has to get back to a corporate job.
holy shit.

this is the least miserable tragedy that I have heard related to me.

Not technically. I start Season 7 of Lost next week when I fly to Hawaii amidst all the chaos. I'm praying they can mix a Mai Tai there that's at least 60% alcohol....you know, to kill the virus.

If you only drink everclear and boiled water you should be fine. The everclear can double as a cleaning agent.

so i guess this is a list of the cleaning products good enough to klil the virus. https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2020-03/documents/sars-cov-2-list_03-03-2020.pdf

not sure how long you must soak / contact the virus with the wipes still tho. my wipes say 1 min contact time and i didnt get to read that far on the bleach ones.

ok the bleach wipes i have say 3 mins for TB and parovirus and 1 min for virus.. ;O strange that washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds will be good enough but i guess its ok just use silverware for eating pizza or dont eat the crust (is what i do since i touch the crust: :p )
