Just found out my brother is trapped in northern Italy and trying to get back to Germany :(

what's the problem with being forced to enjoy risotto (northern Italy), boar meat, and great wines for an extra week or so, compared to, well, a bunch of sausages?

I've been on one cruise in my adultlife - a few in my kid life (that I don't have fond memories of from it being so long ago)....

All I can say is...never again. Wowzers. I have zero plans to ever go on a cruise in life ever again. The rooms are more crampt together than a god damn airline seat. The food is always horrendous because it's always basically microwave shit.

But yeah, with how close you have to be to SO many people on a cruise, it's a pandemic waiting to happen.

I'd need a case like this to get me on a cruise ship.

The possibility of severe outbreaks aboard ship have been long known with rhinovirus...which is reason enough to keep me off.

The food was decidedly average the one I've been on and the booze mediocre (and expensive). Some of the cheaper lines like Carnival have had a string of bad incidents in recent years but people keep on booking them because it's cheap.

When you have to wipe your ass with wash cloth because everyone bought all the toilet paper, you're going to wish you hoarded toilet paper. :p

that should be better for you than toilet paper, actually. no more dingleberries.

It's true, I don't really feel that bad for him... he lives a life of traveling the world with no responsibilities. I think he's mainly in a bad place because his girlfriend sprained her MCL while they were skiing and she's grumpy and has to get back to a corporate job.

You went on shit cruise and paid for the crappiest room. Modern cruise ships are floating cities. They're gigantic. The rooms are very spacious all things considered and have nice decent sized balconies with chairs and table. And the food can be good to great considering the volume they put out. I'm actually amazed and marvel at their skill and wonder how they pull it off. I can't imagine all the hard work and coordination it must take to run that kitchen.

WTF with horders and scalpers.
I hope they all lose money on buying that hand santizer.

My Mom made me pick up like 50 bottles of water for her, and i was like WTF.
I told her, we have a several RO machines, and i have a 40gal RO tank which i use to do water changes on my salt water tank.
So it always has 40gal of RO water in just that one tank, unless i just did a water change.

She's like what if the water stops, and i told her, if it came to that, and we blow though all that, and not get relief, well, its pretty much sure that the country has turned to hell, and i don't think we would want to be living in it much longer.

Just ask her "why would the water stop even in the worst-case scenario?"

I always tell people similar shit that are fearful of the stock market and want to sell... If the stock market doesn't recover, you have a hell of a lot more important shit to worry about in life than having retirement income.

Cruises are perfect for your typical fat lazy American. You don't have to do a damn thing and get to go see various countries with the least amount of effort. And the whole time you can eat and drink with other fat lazy Americans so you feel right at home.

Then when in port, you don't have to do anything either. The ports are typically setup so you just step foot off the ship and people are there to do everything for you and take your money.

I've never been on a cruise and probably will never go on one. I do know though when I'm on islands and I see cruise ships in port, I know where NOT to go.

Except for the last time I was in Grand Cayman. My wife wanted to eat at this restaurant on the beach that is apparently a huge cruise stop. When we went in, they asked us if we were "local" and I was like 'we are here for the week' and they let us in for free. People who were with the cruise had to pay like $2/person to get in or something. Then like 30 minutes after we were there, we saw these vans roll up and drivers got out with signs they held above their heads, and all the cruisers were rounded up like cattle.

Being in Grand Cayman for a couple of hours and having to leave sounds like a nightmare. But hey, at least you can tell everyone on Facebook you are now a Grand Cayman expert and know everything about the country since you were there for 3 hours!

I've never gone on a cruise before, but have one scheduled for the western Carribean/Central America next month. I see no way in which this could go badly for me.

Yeah the experience in general does little for me. I can manage being out of the country without being herded from thing to thing like livestock.

I still don't comprehend the people on the boat rushing the buffet every day when it's filled with culinary delights that are typically found at a cheap hotel on the Vegas strip. I know it's very American to want more of everything regardless of quality but man.

as long as your starting port is somewhere in the US, it wont.
Its common known fact, Japan totally botched this quarantine in more fears it would postpone / cancel the olympics.

They were better off unloading the passengers on an Island with makeshift facilities instead of keeping them on that tightly contained ship.

They shot themselves in the foot hardcore, because the world now assumes, Japan has close to to nothing for disaster management, and well, this years olympics is probably going to be a bit depressing.

I don't really trust our ability to manage quarantines here in the States either, but kidding aside, I'm not actually terribly worried about it. I mean, who knows where things will be in a month, but I'm not inclined to stress about it.

So far as it goes, I decided on a cruise not because I'm fat or lazy but because I have a strong tendency to wear myself the bleep out trying to do All The Things when I go on vacation. Work has been stressful, so the theory (good or bad) was that a cruise would more or less force me to actually relax some rather than walking 20+ miles a day all over creation.

In general I have a good amount of TP just... to have, ya know? Basically I keep a package of rolls in all of the bathrooms in general just because it's not something I've ever not going to use...

But I cannot for the life of me understand why... of all things... TP is the first thing people are worried about getting enough of lol.

Food and gas alone sound more useful. I know it wouldn't be fun, but worse comes to worse, I'm sure folks can find someone else to wipe their ass with. Or buy a bidet or something, christ.
