Nolan's next: Dunkirk

Didn't Hitler admire the British and desperately wanted them as allies? His reluctance to really force the issue at Dunkirk may be a sign of that.

Either way, a critical moment in the war. Perhaps the biggest "what if" moment of the war. Could be a great movie if done correctly. Hopefully it's not just flat out action the entire time and we see some character building etc.

Critics like the production but they never mind the actual plot.

For his next film he'll fictionalize an epic, called freedom at last, detailing IRA ambushes of SAS soldiers in Northern Ireland.There were survivors there to with about the same latitude to change their fate.

An unclever choice of drama for NA audiences IMHO.

It's a war film based on actual events. The soldiers are not getting slaughtered to provide a visceral thrill to snuff-film junkies, that's to drive home the gravity of the real situation. Ever seen Saving Private Ryan or We Were Soldiers? They were not throwing marshmallows at each other. War is hell and war films capture that. And despite how bad the events were, and no matter how bad Nolan will undoubtedly make them look, Dunkirk is regarded as a miracle. If that had gone a little differently, just a little, the allies would have lost about 400,000 more men than they did, Britain would have been in the very real danger of being forced to surrender to Germany before we got into things over there and modern Europe would be a very different place. It's something that gets neglected over here because we were not participants, but that was one of the most important operations of the entire war. Rescuing those soldiers rescued the continent.

I'm thinking I will try to see this next Saturday on 70mm at the Air and Space museum...and just learned later tonight that Nolan is actually in DC this weekend, presenting at the Air and Space Museum. Damn my slow, useless hide.

Hans Zimmer is the dark knight to Nolan really. I remember watching the docking scene in Interstellar and getting goose bumps all over my freaking body. I remember telling myself that the scene was technically impossible but boy did the child in me rejoice.

He did a way better job on Dunkirk than he did in Interstellar IMO

Yes. That scene gave me chills as I watched it in IMAX.

Interstellar was awesome to experience in the theater, though I was ultimately disappointed in the ending. Still a thought provoking film.
