Interstellar had a lot of flaws but I wouldn't say I was disappointed like I was with Inception and Dark Knight Rises. If it ends up in Interstellar's class I will be more than happy.
While I liked both, I rank Inception higher than Interstellar. What makes Inception so disappointing for you? I agree with you on TDKR

The film was filled with extremely contrived scenarios that don't fit with the premise, on-the-nose expository dialog, action for action's sake (was feeling like a Bond flick for a while), an unnecessarily long run-time, and VERY little sci-fi despite being presented as such. Hans Zimmer salvaged it a bit for me, but it was my least favorite Nolan film. The people who loved it unquestioningly almost universally think Dark Knight was better than Begins (failing my litmus test for a self-proclaimed Nolan fan) and would be bored by Insomnia... if they had even seen it.

The trailer looks full of doom and death for the British Expeditionary Force. And why not ? It was surrounded on two sides by German 4th Army in the Port of Dunkirk. That's gonna pull in an audience for sure. But I'll be interested to see whether Nolan portrays a balanced story. Does the screenplay account for two facts which helped determine the survival of the BEF, ~364,000 soldiers ?

Contrary to the trailer, the RAF cleared the sky of German planes. Those which got to the beach had little effect (except on those who died of course). Bombs were absorbed by the sand. Secondly, the German Army stopped its attack short of the port. Completely unexpectedly, Hitler gave his tanks a rest and in that period the entire force made their escape. Why the otherwise murderous Wehrmacht took a breather precisely at that time has been well researched . Try Google on that.
But the full story is not one of a bare, marginal survival surrounded by the dying and decapitated but a miraculous one, based on an inexplicable tactical error and a magnificent display of heroics by the RAF and the small boat captains. These latter moreover seem properly cast in the trailer. The rest of the film may be something else.

The evacuation might not have been possible without the RAF, but they didn't "clear the skies" over Dunkirk. They didn't have the numbers to do that.

A lot of the BEF wrongly thought that the RAF wasn't exerting enough effort based on how much they were getting bombed and strafed. But they were actually straining themselves to the limit, and learned a bit about why you'd rather fight over your own land rather than the other side of the channel.

Yes, thx, I overstated the RAF campaign. Despite the RAF, the German air force remained a menace to the troops on the beach mostly from strafing. RAF Fighter Command downed 262 enemy aircraft, losing 106 British planes. Nevertheless the rescue operation was a resounding success. Again there was one factor absent from the battlefield . The German 4th Army tank corps.

Yall should just watch the original 1958 movie. Yay hollywood and their "I cant make an original movie" attitude.

Watch movie with the best of 1958 visual technology or 2017 nolan masterpiece - this is going to be a tough decision.

I've only seen 4 Nolan movies, but I've enjoyed all of them. I've been meaning to watch Memento for years now.

I'm not a theatergoer, so I'll keep an eye out for Dunkirk when it hits digital/BR.

Just bought tickets for 70mm IMAX. Not too many 70mm IMAX screens but I'm willing to make the 25 mile drive to go see it.

Trailer doesn't seem too authentic, or gripping. Hope it's not indicative of the movie.

I do plan to catch it in theater on opening weekend though.
