I really dont understand why anyone would want any company/system to fail. I hope all 3 do well to prevent a Monopoly which would most likely drive up prices of the remaining systems/accessories.

I seriously doubt that Nintendo can compete with all that.

You seriously doubt that Nintendo can "compete" Sony in the handheld market which they have owned since their Game & Watch series in the early 80's? lol. The PSP from the descriptions I read is nothing more than a handheld PDA minus the PDA functions. This isn't home console territory where demand is fairly price inelastic (exception: $99 Gamecube). Handheld consoles are a different ballgame. You talk like the PSP will instantly outsell the GBA by a 2:1 margin and will uproot the 100 million+ GB console base Nintendo already has in place. You are fairly mistaken. It will have it's fans - the people who buy new technology instantly, but it's hardly a "handheld" gaming console like the GBA is. Like I said earlier, a novelty, or maybe a PC accessory, but it's not going to spank the GBA.

Sales may have quadrupled, but all that happened is that they went from downright horrible to marginally acceptable. Nintendo still has the GameBoy, but when SONY comes out with their own pocket system, it will slowly kill off the GameBoy just like the PS2 killed off the Cube.
lol. Slowly kill the Gameboy? It's the best selling console in history. The GBA and GBA SP are both backwards compatible with pretty much any GB game made before it. Unless N changes media formats or makes their newer system incompatible with their huge game base, Sony won't have a chance with the POS or whatever it's called. And um, the PS2 never killed off the Cube.
The best-selling console in history? Kinda like Nintendo's other consoles were before SONY came around? I remember people saying the exact same thing back then. Trust me on this one, unless there is a monumental shift in the way Nintendo does business, they'll be squashed by SONY.

Nintendo was tied with Sega at the end of the 16-bit wars. They were FAR from dominating the console industry. Nintendo doesn't have much to worry about with the PDA...oops I mean PDA wannabe PSP.

The XBox and Gamecube both have SUPERIOR hardware to the PS2. The PS2 total sales > Gamecube + XBox sales, combined. What's your point?

Yeah, tell 'em that specs are only things geek boys care about. Nintendo handheld have always had the advantage because they understand the market like nobody else. Who wants to play a handheld game system? A geek boy that has $300 lying around in his pocket or some kid who saved up $69.99 over the past 3 months on his paper route to play on his ride to school. Does anyone is who is capable of earning enough to blow $300 on something to play around with, actually have the time to play with a little handheld video game device? I mean anybody that has a full time paying job drives to work, and has better things to do with their free time than play handheld games. I have a GBA, but for the $80 I paid for it, I don't care if I use it for 3 hours a year. I will not spend $300 on something I will use for a couple of hours every year. As for the kids who all this free time on the school bus and in the playground - they better have rich parents who spoil them or they're not getting PSP or N-Gage. There's a reason why Nintendo has owned this market from the very beginning - they understand it.

Werd....id pay 300 for a console super system but no freaking way would I pay that much for hand held. Besides....I don't think Sony's system will be as drop resistant as my gameboy has been. :)

Gameboy is solid. True. In the super rare event it ever broke I wouldn't hesitate to get a new one. I think giving 5 $60 Gameboys to 4 needy kids and yourself is better use of resources than buying one PSP for yourself.

Those specs you gave sound eerily familiar to that Nokia piece of cr@p. But of course, based on specs alone, consoles like the Atari Jaguar, Game Gear, SegaCD, N64, and even Atari Lynx should have succeeded.

Why would you need PS2 level graphics on a 3" screen?

As the Sony loyalists say "It's the games, stupid."

So until they release a huge A title list, there's no guarantees about it's success.

Lies, The PS2 had crappy launch titles, And it sold very well. Most of the games were crap long after it launched.

So true. Whenever I say that today's gamers buy only hype nobody believes me, but it true. I even had friends in love with my DC and the games on it, that went out and bought a PS2. I had lent one of them the DC, and one day when I called (after he bought the PS2) I heard Crazy Taxi sounds in the background. I wonder why they weren't playing the hype machine if they thought it was so great to wait months to get a hold of one. Yeah, hype sells.

Gamecube is "worth" just as much or more as the other consoles. It's all a question of what games you want to play.

The GC has the crappiest line up so far, They only have a few key titles that people actually want, And don't tell me "oh, you think it's a kids console" no, EVERY FVCKING NINTENDO CONSLE WAS A KIDS CONSOLE! This has been there plan from the beginning. Nintendo just can't make a good console developers and users like, besides the GBA. Nintendo really needs to give up on the hardware front.

Sorry you bought the wrong console, but if you want those few key titles so badly that you lose your self control I suggest you get a Gamecube. :sun:

I had a gamecube, I also had a ps2, and I have an xbox, The gamecube was the first to go. I bought several games that looked fun and they sucked ass. Metroid Prime was the worse. The only fun game I bought was Animal Crossing and it got boring after the bastards made me upgrade my house and I had to give them 100,000!!!!!

nope, F-zero I can do without.
The Rogue Squadron series are ass.
Mario Kart looks gay with two riders.
Harvest moon is on other consoles.
Viewtiful Joe looks to messed up.

Wow, I really need to buy it again!

All that with a price tag of $300-400. Handhelds are portable, cheap, and fun entertainment, one of the pinnacles of the Gameboy series' success. Sony's is going to be big and bulky if it can play regular DVD movies and CD music. Sounds like more of a novelty than a bonafide competitor. Much like the $300 NGage

A handheld that costs that much isn't really a handheld, even if it can be held in your hand...

wait, i had a point

Oh, yeah, if its that expensive i won't carry it around in my pocket for fear that it will get broken/stolen. at 99$ i can just barely carry my GBASP around and not feel like i have to jump off a bridge if i lose it.

What you're going to have is a scaled down PS2 with a scaled down display. Most people who own it will keep it in thier room and play it sitting right next to the ps2 they do have, that is if PSP has unique games.

Personaly i like the SNES ports on my GBA, i think they are refreshing after playing some of the more intricate games for ps2 and xbox. SNES was the last time games were really simple IMO, with the n64 they had this 3d fetish and most games were hard to control and crap, long live SNES.

Not that i didn't really enjoy FFX, Halo, Knights of the old republic, Etc etc. Its just that sometimes its nice to play a game thats just fun and not involved. If the PSP tries to achive PS2 quality then the game makers are going to ruin the games by making them to complex for such a small medium.

I am an avid FPS player but i tried out doom for the GBASP and it made me seasick.

The new Harvest Moon is Gmaecube exclusive, I think. And once Viewtiful Joe is released all of your friends will point at you if you don't have it.

And you should read a preview of the Rogue Squadron, it's going to be great !

None of my friends have a GC, They have an Xbox or PC. And Harvestmoon is the same thing over and over again. Nothing missed. I've read previews of RS. Still doesn't appeal to me. Anyways, the games you gave me are not system sellers. They are just crap fillers to tide you guys over till the next Zelda. :D
