Nintendo has been taking baby steps with its Gameboy series.

Sony on the other hand takes a big a$$ freaking leap with the PSP by making it have graphics on par with the PS2. Not only that....but Sony is also going to market it as a portable multimedia player capable of playing video and music. Which it where it certainly has plenty of past experience with.

All that with a price tag of $300-400. Handhelds are portable, cheap, and fun entertainment, one of the pinnacles of the Gameboy series' success. Sony's is going to be big and bulky if it can play regular DVD movies and CD music. Sounds like more of a novelty than a bonafide competitor. Much like the $300 NGage

A handheld that costs that much isn't really a handheld, even if it can be held in your hand...

wait, i had a point

Oh, yeah, if its that expensive i won't carry it around in my pocket for fear that it will get broken/stolen. at 99$ i can just barely carry my GBASP around and not feel like i have to jump off a bridge if i lose it.

What you're going to have is a scaled down PS2 with a scaled down display. Most people who own it will keep it in thier room and play it sitting right next to the ps2 they do have, that is if PSP has unique games.

Personaly i like the SNES ports on my GBA, i think they are refreshing after playing some of the more intricate games for ps2 and xbox. SNES was the last time games were really simple IMO, with the n64 they had this 3d fetish and most games were hard to control and crap, long live SNES.

Not that i didn't really enjoy FFX, Halo, Knights of the old republic, Etc etc. Its just that sometimes its nice to play a game thats just fun and not involved. If the PSP tries to achive PS2 quality then the game makers are going to ruin the games by making them to complex for such a small medium.

I am an avid FPS player but i tried out doom for the GBASP and it made me seasick.

what are you talking about?

My GBASP is lighter than my Cell phone.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is coming on out GBA

Plus Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced Rawks I like it. it's very well done. and it's twice as large as the PSX edition.

you won't hear me complain about it. It's small it lights it's BLACK! it's backlit (and you can Turn the Backlit off. ) Screen folds down on itself to aviod scrathes. it's awesome I love it.

I heard that some Walmart stores are selling Gamecubes with the GBA plaer add-on for $99, that is a super sweet deal. At least worth checking if your local store has any..

I've heard aboutthis long ago. Gamestop told me about it when I was trading it in. "If you ever want to buy a new GC, lol, Nintendo will be selling the GBA add-on device for it." We both laughed and knew I wasn't going to buy it again. :D

ACtully the add on is cool, FFTA on a 16:9 screen rawks. :)

but here's an interesting question.

how many of these sales are in Response to Square signing a contract to put newer upcoming Final Fantasy games on the Cube?

I didn't know about that, and I doubt if very many new Gamecube owners have heard about it.

IMO...
PS2 has worse graphics than X-Box or GC. It sold so well in its early days, not because of any killer games, but because it had great graphics (at the time), it was backwards compatible with PS1 games (the biggest videogame library on the planet), and it would play DVDs at a time where a "cheap" set-top DVD player cost $300. Since it was the first current-generation console available, it established a huge user base. Consequently, more game developers make games for PS2 than for any other console.

Now, consider the above scenario and compare it to the GBA and the Sony PSP (and that Nokia thingie). Who knows who will win? I just hope the competition makes things better for us gamers.

Nintendo has acknowledged that it screwed up relations with external game developers. I'm not sure how they intend to fix things, but I hope they do. Increasing sales should help a lot.

BTW, I do agree with the people who say that Nintendo really screwed up by making the original cube look like "an 8-year-old's lunchbox." When I first saw it, I was horrified. But, I ended up buying a Platinum GC, and I think it looks good. It's very well-made, and unlike the X-box or PS2, VERY easy to tote around.

Yes, I'll agree with that. the thing that irrtates me is the half sized Disc's

No ;) I think everybody knows that gamecube is a kid's console, so I don't need to harp on it right now. As mentioned it looks like an 8 year old girl's lunchbox, the controller is small for kids' hands, the price is low so as to be more easily afforded by parents, and the games are obviously more child oriented than the PS2 or xbox. Although it does have some "mature" games, I think we all know that in its current state nintendo would never allow grand theft auto to run on its console. Why? Because it would lose the child-like attraction of the unit. It's the first choice for parents and I'd probably buy one if I had a kid who wanted to start video gaming with a harmless console that isn't going to instill in him bad values, like beating hookers to death with baseball bats.

But but..

Doens't eveyrone do that as a kid anyway?

I didnt' say oringal owners I mean out of thousands they've sold. New owners? why else do you thing PSX did so well. It was known for some of the most Killer RPGS of the Consoles.
I.E. Enix and Squaresoft now Squarenix.
FFVII.
that was my only reason to buy a PSX
FFX/KH two reasons why I got a PS2
I got a GBA only to be pleased with FFAT and KH on it.
Will I buy a GC for Final fantasy?

Hell. yess.

yes, I am a Square Fanboi.

Sales may have quadrupled, but all that happened is that they went from downright horrible to marginally acceptable. Nintendo still has the GameBoy, but when SONY comes out with their own pocket system, it will slowly kill off the GameBoy just like the PS2 killed off the Cube.

I don't mind the look at all... in fact, I LIKE IT. It fits in around all my other clunky media equipment and I've taken it to my friend's house plenty of times very easily.

The only thing I don't really like is the top opening because it's less accessible. Fair enough trade-off for it being awesome though. I love my cube and I owe it all to the Hot Deal forum for getting it for me for $81 about 9 months ago :)

So far, I don't think it's made a huge difference.. Afterall, Square is making like 3 or 4 FINAL FANTASY games alone for PS2 alone, one being a MMORPG. Right now, I think Microsoft's Xbox is doing well. They're planning on releasing Halo 2 and now GTA 3 will be released on GTA, it's definitely geared to mature audiences.

I dont see how the sales of software titles are so low that developers give up on the GC. It's sad, really.

I actually like my GBA alot. I still have no problems playing the good ol' 2D RPGs and by having a GBA I can pick up and play anytime I want.
