Yea. These Android manufacturers need to invest in some better design. Every phone is a derivative of another... the Lumia is the only fresh design in the mobile landscape today.

OLED > LCD any day of the week. LCD is outdated; companies need to quit clinging to it. It's the CRT of today.

If you hold the Evo and Nexus side by side, most of the additional screen real estate goes to the soft buttons, effectively making the usable space on the screens the same size.

We're not talking about wanting smaller screen size.
We're talking wanting smaller screen size only so that the physical size of the phone remain small.
I'm all for manufacturers making phones with 4.8" screen if they can keep the physical size of a 4.3" phone but thats not possible.
The Galaxy Nexus is bigger physically than a 4.3" phone but the usable screen size is about the same. Dumb design if you ask me.

Looks like you're the one that needs to learn to be objective.

I own a Galaxy Note so it's not like I'm screaming that Pentile is a blight and all that.

But it really seems this panel will be like the Galaxy Nexus one and the One X panel is known to exceed it in pretty much every stat.
 
Pentile and bland feminine design (except the thinness) - didn't samsung learn their lessons from galaxy I?

The One X screen is only better than the GN screen in pixels per inch. Pretty much every single other measurable metric(colors, viewing angles, contrast, response time, etc..) is considered better in SAMOLED displays than SLCD.
 
Question from an Android newb. Is the Nexus line the only line where you can install the latest update of the OS the quickest and doesn't require waiting months and months?
 
Thanks guys! Guess I'll be looking to upgrade from my Nexus S to a new Nexus today! Although this phone looks decent enough, if not for that fact.

Really.

Colors it is true that AMOLED has a wider gamut but we only use the sRGB range (and in fact, because the AMOLEDs tend to be badly calibrated, people even use custom work to bring it back into line). So there's no advantage there since the OneX screen is more accurate out of box.

In terms of brightness, the One X easily wins so you'll be able to view it outside more easily. It absolutely destroys current AMOLED panels.

Contrast ratio naturally AMOLED wins but it's not like the One X is lacking in that department since it's top of class. In fact, in terms of contrast difference instead of ratio, the One X panel exceeds any AMOLED.

Finally, viewing angles of LCD's are already at 178 degrees. That's far beyond what anyone would need so even if AMOLEDs had 180 degrees (which they actually don't, even AMOLEDs have a little bit of fade on the AMOLED screens I've owned) it'd be a non-advantage.


So we only have marginal victories for a Pentile 720p AMOLED while the sLCD has a clear-cut victory in PPI and brightness. If this had been a Super AMOLED HD+ panel then it's an entirely different story.
