And still no where near as refined.

lol. Refined. U gotta be kidding. You still want to argue about something so meaningless as refined even after spending the difference on the Mustang? You could take any car at that price and blow the BMW away. Unless you consider the BMW name, badge, and looks as the "more refined" part. But, I'd called that bias or fanboy-ism. LOL

haz more sole.

Soul? That's it? As if a car considered by many to be an American icon with 50 years of heritage lacks soul? Soul is the reason people claimed to keep buying Mustangs year after year even when they sucked hard.

Refined also implies something that has been around for a long time tried and true and receives improvement over the years, something the Mustang can claim easily.

So really I want to know what refined means in this context because it's time reviewers start being held accountable for the words they use and that their readers mindlessly regurgitate.

What I don't get is, beat it at what? You could build up a Mustang of any year (or get a 03/04 cobra or '00 R, etc) and beat an M3 easily in raw performance whether it's corners or straights.

That's not the point. The point of the M3 is balance. Good handling, not the best. Good performance, better than econo boxes and family sedans, but still not the fastest. Good interior, not the sportiest, not the most luxurious. Good suspension for the track, but not too harsh for the street. Jack of all trades master of none. In a video game an M3 should have all it's attribute bars at 50% all the way down from top to bottom.

And in that regard a Mustang will never "beat" a M3, regardless if it can hand it it's ass on the track. That's not it's market, and if they tried to make it so, they would lose alot of die hard Mustang fans and hardcore car enthusists. Mustang buyers (at least the V8/Cobra/Boss/etc buyers) don't care about bluetooth, automatic sunroofs, parking cameras, navigation, and self dimming mirrors. They just want a steering wheel, a stick, and 3 pedals, power steering, disc brakes, AC. That's it. And thet most definately do not want a gay plastic panel covering the entire engine compartment.

Actually they do. I'm getting the 2011 GT pretty much fully loaded (no sunroof though), with a stick. Why? Because it's for my wife, and she wants all that stuff. I tried to talk her into a Lexus IS, Audi or BMW 3 series, but she wanted a Mustang. And after test driving a 2010 GT, I really can't say I blame her. The 2010 GT was really fun to drive, so I can just imagine how good the 2011 GT is. :)

Why not get the V6? It has like 300hp

I test drove a slightly used 2009 Mustang GT last summer. It was definitely a fun car to drive...it was a stick too.

2005 Mustang GT is all over the 2005 GTO like a cheap suit. The GT won the comparo.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...gto_vs._2005_ford_mustang_gt-comparison_tests

Ok so I read that and I don't see where the Mustang "trounces" the GTO. All I see is an author trying to claim it does with no facts to back it up. I also read the print version of that "comparo" in Motor Trend when it came out back in 2005. Here's the basic gist of both:

"So what was the Mustang's appeal? Well, we're suckers for a great body, and the Mustang looks a lot better than the GTO."

That's it? The Mustang looks better? Hahahahaha. The GTO outperformed the Mustang in nearly every category and they admit it. But the Mustang looks better. Well woweee. In the print article version of this they said the Mustang had "gotta have it" factor. To me the author just comes off as biased. The GTO is the better car by a long shot.

GTO shouldn't even be compared to the GT, it should be compared directly to cars like the 03/04 Cobra in stock trim and SRT-8 Chargers, the competition at the time. 3600-3700 lb cars with 400 HP and IRS, etc. God knows they both have nearly identical wheel hop in stock form. :awe:

I'd take a LS2 GTO over a 2005-2010 Mustang GT any day. 2011 Mustang GT might take some careful thought.

I agree. Performance-wise the Cobra is a better match. What was the sticker on an 05 Cobra new?

Pretty stupid of Motor Trend to declare the Mustang GT the better car too. Not even in the same class. I lost a bunch of respect for them as a source of credible reviews.

My wife's brother owned a 2005 GTO for awhile. He'd done quite a bit of work on it, and started it up next to me in a parking garage one time and I about jumped out of my pants it was so loud. He sold it because it had depreciated like crazy and he wanted to try something new. I call him a car whore because the car he'd had before the GTO was a real nice RX-7. Once he sold the GTO, what'd he do, but go out and pick up another RX-7 as his project car and a S4 with a stage 3 turbo to be his "daily driver".

I'm guessing he wants 412 HP. I would too considering you can't even get a Camry or Maxima with less than 300 HP these days. Today's 300 HP is last decades 150 HP.

Exactly. What is the point of buying a sports car when a mom picking up grocery in her Camry can take you off the line. :(

IMO, a real Mustang is a GT or above. What is the point of a Mustang without the power? It's like getting a V6 Vette (if they made one). Pointless.

Huh? The 2011 model just threw that whole POV on it's head. 2010 and earlier, I'd agree in a heartbeat, but the 2011 V6 is just as fast as the 2010 V8 GT, and oddly it handles better. 0-60 in very very low 5s (I think the MT first test was at 5.1), quarter in the 13s, it's definitely not a Mustang without the power. Sure it's not a total ass whooper like the new 5.0, but it's one god damned helluva bargain. It is around the same price range as stuff like MazdaSpeed3, GTI, WRX (non-STI), etc, and is faster along with shockingly good skidpad, slalom, and braking scores.

It is, and it isn't. I used to own a Mustang GT and the 2011 Mustang V6 is a much better performer. Then again, mine was a 1986 model. :\
