Honestly, I have always wanted to live in a place where it snows atleast once. Prior to leaving the Bay Area for Texas I was applying for many jobs in Chicago and would have moved there had I been able to secure a comparable job opportunity as to the one that was offered to me in Texas. But then again I had an open mind and was pretty much willing to move anywhere that was not California nor the northeast (excluding NYC)

I moved from Chicago and came here....I love Chicago (honestly, better food than you get SF + EastBay + SouthBay, but expand to Napa and all that and it isn't a contest, obviously)...but that snow shit gets old.

nope! I did just read airbnb is now legal in san fran though, i'll try to use that when we go down there for a few days to prospect.

There are many properties available less than an hour away from the Twin Cities that you could buy and do what the fuck you want. Some even in the Twin Cities especially certain towns like Afton and maybe the north metro area. If I remember right the North metro is one of the fastest expanding areas in the whole metropolitan area.

Obviously you need lots of money if you want a huge property however. Otherwise you might be able to go for less like a few acres in Lake Elmo or something.

yeah, if we moved even further away, say 1+ hour commute we'd have a hobby farm for sure, but maybe when/if we come back to the twin cities.

prepare for disappointment. Strangely enough, a lot of the Mexican food--particularly on this side of the Bay--is quite bad. There are a few good trucks here and there, some very good joints in Oakland, and of course SF has some good options...but it is nothing like the quality and quantity you see in SoCal.

Maybe it's better than MN, I dunno, but NorCal is certainly not as good as your options in Chicago for Mexican food. (Sounds strange--but it actually shouldn't. Chicago has a very large, and very well-established Mexican population)
