I live in Houston. Home of 5 months of high temps and humidity and I have not cried uncle yet. I'd be willing to experience the other extreme.
 
I can't do another winter here, I think I'm going to texas or arizona after the new year if I can get enough saved up, I like the dry heat and lack of -20 temps. / 75 -85 degree dew points and so on.

I was wondering why we have only got about 4" of snow so far.

And if you look at the map you can tell all of that snow came from Lake Superior.
 
haha, yes, weather wise, no more snow in San Francisco really. I actually love the snow, but the wife doesn't. I am sure I can get used to having to drive to the mountains once in a while to go boarding. I like mountains too, so that's also nice to see now.
 
CA is a big state and there is certainly snow here

If somebody put a gun to my head and said I had to live in the peninsula it would be Burlingame/Hillsborough/San Mateo for sure.
 
If you're working in SOMA I'd recommend Lafayette/Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill and take BART, or Alameda and take the ferry. Also could live mid-Peninsula and take Caltrain, but housing down there is $$$$$ now. If you want good weather on the Peninsula you need to be south of 92.

Ignore the people that told you to immediately write off Walnut Creek. It's real nice out here, and BART is only 35 mins to Montgomery station. Coming from the Midwest you'll probably be more comfortable east of the Berkeley hills, as there are sort of real seasons here. The hills block all the shitty SF weather. We have a real summer (not crazy hot, gets up to 90-95 dry heat and occasionally 100), true fall color, and it even gets down to freezing overnight in the winter. If you like going to the mountains it is a much better drive if you live in the East Bay than trying to get out of the city or the Peninsula across the bridges and inner East Bay traffic hell.

Also ignore the people saying Alameda is a dump as they apparently haven't been there in eons. There are many very nice parts of the island.

You're going to hate yourself if you try to drive to SOMA and pay to park.

yeah, I do not want to drive my car down there. I don't think they have free parking, looking at the street view there is no lot nearby even.

Curious, when the kid is born, how do people drop them off at daycare? Do they usually drive them there, somewhere close hopefully, then hop on the BART/caltrain?
