So I have Nightcrawler up to 42 now, and as the content has gotten harder he has gotten even squishier than before. I know he will always be somewhat squishy, but does he get better as he gets geared more? I was fighting Kingpin last night and I died like 10 times. Crazy.

Ms Marvel on the other hand, I have her to 37 and she's damn near indestructible. Different playstyles obviously. She doesn't have a ton of buttons to push, but man is she tough. Not as fun to me as Iron Man (fav so far) or Scarlet Witch, but it is nice to barely have to worry about dying. Just face tank pretty much anything.

yeah, you will never be able to facetank with NC. Health, dodge, and defense are all very important for him. I don't have much trouble anymore, but mine is pretty well-geared. You should be teleporting every 4 or 5 seconds, at least. I dont' use it much--I'm thinking about switching to this on prestige--but Brimstone Beatdown is a very good dodge/damage/thrifty spirit attack. I think most players choose that or X Slash as their main spirit-spending attack. ...and i'm liking Bamf Bomb a lot more now--with the boost on the latest update, I am getting Brutals clsoe to 600k, and some crits in the 300k range. Stealth seems to be working better now, so that makes it more viable. And my Bamf Bomb only has ~14 points into it + gear boosts. Others are reporting 900k, 1mill+ brutals. considering how cheap it is, the low cooldown, it's pretty amazing. gather things with F&G, stealth, boom to the mobs.

Finally got Iron Man to 60...kinda bored with him. :\ started Scarlet Witch finally, and I'm digging her so far. It seems that I don't give up teleport very easily.

I don't want to face tank with NC, I just want to not die 47 times fighting a boss. It's like 2 hits and he's dead with Kingpin, I just can't stay alive vs anyone that hits. Top that off with constant spirit issues, and against bosses he's a chore. Against regular stuff though he's nice. I pretty much use Infernal Brimstone and Flash and Grab mixing in X Slash for single targets.

I actually love Iron Man. I use a range build like this:

Left: Repulsor Barrage (you can use Pulse Bolt here, but I prefer just holding down the button)
Right: Wrist Rocke: maxed
Hyper Charge: 1 point
Micro Missles: Maxed
Jericho: Maxed
The One Off: Maxed
Force Shield: Maxed
Shield Overload: 1 point

Also have Arc Reactor maxed, a point in Missle Control Systems, System Reboot Adaptive Defenses, and flight.

With that build he just wrecks mobs and has pretty much unlimited spirit with Shield Overload. Also The One Off is by far my favorite skill I've used in the game so far. Now you see them, now you don't!

yeah, that's pretty much the build I use with IM--it's very good. I do use pulse, though. I just find the play style a bit boring :\ It's like Hawkeye--tons of damage and a very good toon, but boring. IM much better than Hawkeye, though.

That's whats so great about this game, different strokes! I love IM's playstyle. I love when I'm walking away and see a mob in back of me, I just hit Micro Missles and it flys backwards and wipes them out. Reminds me of the movie when he blows up that tank as he turns his back (I know that was a wrist rocket, but still).

Yeah, I guess I like being more active with NC. The first I spent a ton of time on was Jean Grey, leveling her to 60. By ~20-on, you're just parking on top of mobs and spamming 2-3 AoEs and never really dying in any of that content. And even then, only a few cosmic terminals present a "challenge," the One shot is a breeze, though Man-Ape has so much health to JG's average damage that it just becomes a long slog a the end. Anyway, it's fun to destroy things in glorious fashion and be more or less omnipotent, but it became rather boring.

The first time I tried to solo Cosmic Doom with a decently-geared and traited Nightcrawler...I must have died 2 dozen times on Doom alone. It was hilarious. I think I spent 30 minutes on that fight. Now, things are much better. I tend to group for Doom, though--speed and it's easy to find a group--but most other cosmics and bosses are a breeze for me solo.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Nightcrawler, it just gets frustrating dying constantly. I need to get him to 60 and geared up. Right now I only have one unique for him.

yeah, he does die a shit-ton. even at 60 and at the time with a full set of his generally best uniques (not great rolls), I was getting my ass handed to me. And regardless of gear, if you have the misfortune of standing in an AoE bomb at the wrong time--like second stage Doom unloading everything in one spot with punches, power cosmic, flame circles; or that one annoying room in cosmic Kurse where all the blues spawn and shoot you), you will die fast. It's kinda funny--especially when you inadvertently teleport onto their targeted AoE spot. Not much you can do about that :D

A couple of things really help: A very good Advanced Crimson Crystal of cytorrak, which is the type ofartifact you will probably always find a place for on your favorite characters. I also have an adv Super Soldier Serum--mainly because I'm not getting much else that I would put on him (the Kursed Gem or Hand of Doom, which I have yet to drop, and may never will), but the SSS is a pretty good artifact overall if you need survival. I only now replaced my Scrolls of Pama with a Pym Shrinking (acquired in trade), but Pama is very useful--I dont' mind depending on orb drops with someone like NC< because it's easy enough to teleport out and back into fight to pick up anything you need.)

Uniques like Nate Grey's Psionic and NC's Great White Shark, well rolled, are difference makers. If you think you will play him a lot, consider an Excalibur as legendary. I think more and more are using that over Gungnir on NC, because the defense is so much more important in cosmics and, I suppose, Raids. I already had a half-leveled Gungnir and didn't want to bother replacing it.

Starting over, I would definitely put Excalibur on him; the damage loss is very minimal compared to the major gains in defense with Excalibur. I also have a stack of now 112 or so Lemuria on NC. It's basically the only relic you want to put on him. For costume core I have a 400 LoH and + strength (I like strength because it reduces cost of physical powers--all of NCs powers are physical; and now almost all of them are also melee). though, with 4 strength, it's weird seeing NC pick up cars every now and then...

well, if costumes are your thing, and especially costumes for Black Widow, that is a rather cheap way to get 3 costumes (well, 4 including default) :D

BW, those hero-specific stashes are pretty good---you can put all "Any Hero" uniques as well as insignias and a few other things in them. On top of hero specific and bound items, of course. All of that crap starts to pile up if you play long enough, so it ends up being a cheaper general storage tab. And if you ever plan to prestige a hero, you need their stash to hold all your max gear as well as specific leveling gear.

Cool. By the time I am able to play tonight around 11:30pm half the population of Surfers will be level 60.

cakes are back. Supposedly they introduced an internal timer, similar to how splinters drop. But in my limited play this morning (destroying X-Def with all-surfer AoE parties), they still drop pretty frequently from the elites.

Got my surfer to ~12 before leaving for work. He is awesome. Dude has contrails. :D

Nice, glad I didn't donate my 321 cake slices. I should get enough tonight for a full cake to open on my Surfer.

May start leveling up cyclops since he can give the XP buff and just see how many slices he can get.

His XP buff is 10%, right? I don't get why people like this so much--getting characters to lvl 60 is far better for your account, and doesn't use a synergy slot for it to work.

Plus, you have to deal with Cyclops for 50 levels to get there. For a first or second character, I think that's pretty good, but if you already have a toon in the 30s-40s, might as well get 60 with them, which will give you 15% account wide, I think. Maybe it's higher with the first level 60--I have 4 toons at 60, and that alone gives me base of 75% XP buff.

Hey so what do I do with these weird fortune cards I got with my Silver Surfer pack? Should I just click them all now, or do something else with them?

It says when you hover over them the kinds of things you can get. Usually they result in boosts. I'd just open them
