It took me no time at all to d/l it using the torrent file.

I was invited to the stress test, but I didn't get a chance to play. It took me too long to download the installer and by the time I patched and tried to login it was too late. 🙁

That's strange, so you were only given an invite for the stress test and then they revoked your invitation? 😕 If I am reading that correctly that is crazy and not very nice.

don't worry, you didn't miss much.

actually, ever since they advertised that they would permit people who preordered to take open beta characters into retail I gave up on the game

I like the game... but I think after a while it might get boring just like WoW did.... it's pretty easy, the gameplay is almost identical to WoW in pretty much every way. I like the graphics better (not as cartooney) and the storyline is MUCH better than WoW's. I'm going to pre-order it so that I can get the reduced monthly rate ($9.99 instead of $14.99) and so my open beta char will carry over into retail. I'm tired of starting over, will have to stomach one more wipe when open beta starts, but after that i'll be home free 🙂

They also have an offer instead of the $9.99/mo to pay $200 for lifetime membership... I actually think that's a great deal... even if you don't play for 2 years, it's pretty cool that you can stop whenever you want and then just start playing again whenever you want and not have to pay any more.... nice deal for them. Though... now characters on "lifetime membership" accounts will be worth a lot more on auction sites haha... you won't even have to change CC info if you want to sell your account.. just take somebody's money and give them your password.

The game seems good so far, but my system can't play it in its full glory.

I made a little guide for people trying to play it with an older rig like mine (see my signature).

I am only at level 8 right now, but I see a lot of potential for character development.

I played for about 2 hours during a stress test. It was basically D&D Online with a lot of improvements (i.e. stuff stolen from WoW). I liked the classes, but the D&D engine is just too lame for my taste.

I can't see your guide???

There is no open pvp. There is PvMP, player versus monster player. It all takes place in the Ettenmoors, which is completely isolated from the other regions. Once you reach level 10 as a player you have the option to create a monster player (actually up to 5 of them per server). Orcs, wargs and spiders are all options. Monsters start at level 50 and have several quests and such to acquire new skills. Or you can fight against other level 50 players that have chosen to travel to the Ettenmoors. There should be raids and such to try to gain/keep control of key locations such as keeps.

I haven't played around with it much, and it is still being added to and tweaked. It certainly is not the main focus of the game, so it will appeal to some and not others. Open beta starts at the end of the month I believe, though I don't know if it is truly "open" in that anybody can create a character.

I've been playing a while now. Lvl 22 Champion and like the game a lot. I only played WoW to level 10 before I was feeling a big fat meh... at that point So so far so good. I see the game improve with every patch and every time I journey to a new area so its looking good so far.

I got into the beta not too long ago. I played a few times and liked it, but my machine would crash after being in game for 10-15 minutes. The entire screen would artifact and the machine would hardlock. I narrowed it down to the graphics card overheating, so I used that as an excuse to buy a better case. I got myself an Antec P180B, and even though the GPU runs at a slightly higher temp idle, I just played the beta for an hour without any problems. 😀 Hopefully it'll stay that way.

So, now I'm gonna tweak the graphics a bit to up the performance.

edit: other games would also cause the hardlock, not just LOTRO.
