I'll be playing both this game, and WOW. One will satisfy the plot/pve cravings, the latter PvP.

The one thing I don't currently enjoy with LOTR is the questing system. I don't think the directions that the NPCs give are all that great. I'm used to having my hand held by these MMORPGs I guess.

I have not really had a rpoblem with that. I find if I re-read the directions in the quest I can usually figure out where I am going.

Of course there is always /advice if you are really stuck!

A 7950GX2 does indeed run it smoothly.

All settings at Ultra High.

I've been playing over the weekend. I like it! As a matter of fact, I like it so much that I canceled my WoW account last night

I run it smoothly at 1920x1200 with relatively high settings with an X1900XT on the rig in my sig.

i started playing the open beta and i'm not impressed. while the graphics are nice, they're pretty generic. everything seems so small too, even the ui.

there seems to be a good amount of skills, but there may be troo many and they may end up being too complicated.

I've been playing it a little (open beta).

Positives:
Beautiful environments
Not cartoony like WoW
Has a nice medieval feel to it, sort of like Asheron's Call
Looks better than Vanguard and runs better.
Quests are alright so far.

Negatives:
Poor performance outdoors- not low fps continuously, but jerks every 2 seconds. This is with a 7950GX2 and 2gb RAM. Lowering settings doesn't help.
No PVP
Classes seem lame- They have to work within the LOTR world, so it wouldn't make sense to let you play a "wizard" or a "ranger".

Have you tried Monster Play at all? Suposedly this addresses the PVP stuff, though I don't care because I am not interested in PVP. Just thought it may tickle your fancy! :p

Turbine is having problems with a memory leak issue even with 2GB of RAM. Not to mention that it is beta and the nothing is completely optimized yet. Heck people with 8800GTX's are havin stuttering issues and hiccups. The game itself is fun though, first MMO for me. :)

True, though things have been a lot better since the patch a week or two ago.

You have to be level 40 to do monster play. Level cap is 15 in the open beta anyway. No matter, it's not the same as a real faction PVP system like WoW's.

Monster play is actually at level 10. Never played WoW, so I can not comment on the style, just passing along what I have read/heard.

Cheers,

For those interested, I've got an extra PCgamer open beta keycode.

If you're interested PM me and I'll do a random drawing from those received this Saturday.

I got a open beta key from my PCGamer magazine. I had never played a MMORPG before so I decided to try it out :) It is confusing for me, especially since the quests dont tell you EXACTLY what to do -- you have to figure out some of the stuff by yourself. I guess I'm used to oblivion where it tells you exactly where to go with the little marker on your map. With this game it just tells you the general area or tells you to go collect x of one thing, without telling you where you can get them  Other than that it's pretty fun. My dwarf owns all the cave claws :p

The graphics are pretty nice, and it runs really smooth on my old system (A64 3200+, 1gb ram, 6800nu). I'm running at 1280*1024 with med/high settings & 4x AF :) Im going to install it on my newer system today

too bad there is a monthly fee.. i hate those :|

I assume you know what re-rolling a character means, as for the first part, say it quickly. "Minus whale" = "Might as well." It's mocking the horribly mangled English people tend to use online ... or worse, in real life, when they don't understand the saying they're butchering.

Don't take a fence to it, for all intensive purposes it means the same thing. Mind you, trying not to upset people is a crab chute in this doggy dog world, so you minus whale gopher broke.

:D

Been playing since stress test then pre order a day before world tour started.

They seemed to have fixed the problem with graphics chugging with opening map or random chugging. They must have put in a patch on Apr 9th.

I am on a quest to do every single possible thing in the Shire.

I have Honourary Sheriff title, Brewmaster, two apprentice titles in crafting, a few mob slayer titles, several traits / virtues, etc.

I am on the Meneldor server, burglar.
