NO infact alot of the toon seem weak at first glance They are holding to the Tolkien "group is better the one" idea. You can solo but you work better in a group

Total diff the looks game play is all diff. Infact it is a refreshing change but see my post about the lag they really need to build a better/bigger cluster for the beta and the game

Baddabump.........

"Welcome to The Lord of the Rings Online?: Shadows of Angmar? (LOTRO) Beta Program! We appreciate you taking the time to sign up for the Beta Program and we are pleased to invite you to join us for this phase.

This week, on December 14th and December 15th (Thursday and Friday), we will be running server stress tests and we need your help! Log in and play LOTRO between 8pm and 11pm EST on Thursday and Friday of this week for your chance to win a Nintendo Wii? or one of one-thousand LOTRO Beta Buddy keys!"

I registered on their message board a couple of weeks ago so I guess a new wave of invites are going out to test the servers.

Not real good timing for me.....just got another free 14 day invite for EVE which I seem to be in constant test mode but never pull the trigger on a subscription.

Funny in this thread that no one has talked about the content of game itself.....not a good sign.

83 hours holy crap!!

I have a very good fibre optic connection, so hopefully I can get it down to only 60 hours or so

Eve DL'd in about 15 minutes and installed in a snap....yeah it's a smaller file but it's still kinda stupid for the LOTR people to allow their servers to get overrun like this.

I'm getting a whopping 27 KB/sec so it will only take me 29 hours! That's using about 1% of my fiber optic? ;)

I went over to the official forums and they sure have a tight NDA.....I still have no idea about this game. You have alot of people whining like little doggies about getting a beta key.

Restarted the DL and looks like I'm about half way through. Speed goes from <100 kbps to around 600 kbps. It's all over the place. BTW, I also put in an app for Vanguard but they haven't found the wisdom of inviting me yet. :)

It is because we are having trouble getting in game:|

Ho, ho, ho.......yup, I think that qualifies as 'not a good sign.' Thanks for the heads up then....I won't hold my breath.

I don't even think you're supposed to post on a forum saying you received an invitation. Unless I read the Confidentiality thing wrong. Anyway... 2.9 GB at 10 k/sec sucks. :p

You're right.....actually their NDA sticky isn't very explicit on that ('LOTRO Beta, the NDA, and you') but I've now discovered the details in other threads. So I guess I should just shut my yap out of respect to the NDA. Fortunately my ID here is different that what I registered under on the official boards.

My speed has now dipped to pathetic levels....about 20 to 30 kbps....yuck.....12 hours to go?

Surprising to see such slow d/l's. I downloaded it yesterday and took around 30 minutes, speed of constant 1.32MB on my Comcast 6MB/384k cable. I was shocked that out of my 3 years with Comcrap this is the one time where it has blown my socks off.

Got everything DL'd and installed/patched.....things really quickened up the past couple of hours and I was DL'ing at my max level. Unfortunately can't get on till tomorrow when the stress test begins.

I've had two different characters and I must say the Hobbit starting area is a lot better than the dwarf one.

I wouldn't expect much from a Turbine beta if I was in it. Their last beta was for Asheron's Call 2 (Mythica got scrapped before it even reached beta) where I couldn't even log in to the beta for the entire duration because of error messages and their 'fix' was to tell me to 'wait until release' instead of trying to fix the problem before release.

Oh, and for the folks who do get this game on release, be weary of Turbine, they will not listen to players and will release nerf after nerf until they are forced to merge all their servers due to lack of players.

I don't think you ought to be expecting much from a beta......we are testers, yes? If you can't get on or get booted or end up playing a slideshow then that's just a reminder of what you are doing.

BTW, I had no issues with the AC2 beta except for getting booted now and again and some freezes. Then again, you expect stuff like that in a beta.

I see this as a symbiotic relationship with the developers.....I help them work out the kinks and preparing the product for market and I get a free demo. I did the same thing with the D&D online beta and ended up passing on the game.
