Honestly. I thought a copy of it came on VHS when you're awarded your mancard.

Probably Blu-ray nowadays. Although I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want that much detail on the older videos like that. :Q

Silent Hill: 1/10 --umm, what? (caught this On Demand HD)

Bucket List: 6/10 --flight back from Dublin. Not bad for this type of flick, but very cliche'd, typical Hollywood sentimentality. nothing memorable

Mongol: 7/10 -- sadly, I was disappointed with this. strangely enough, this is one of those where I WANTED the typical Hollywood BS. While I enjoyed the pacing, and reflective mood that this film takes, I found myself wondering during the entire flick: "Allrighty, great visuals and all, nice character depth, such as it is....but when is Ghengis going to become Ghengis and start laying waste to everything and everyone? Where all his bitches at?" well, in the final 5 or so minutes. 90% of the film is him running from his enemies, getting caught, running again. I'd say, if you're expecting Braveheart, you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting Ataranjuat, you'll love it.

Just to pull up one from 1+ years ago that I think too few have seen:

Diving Bell and the Butterfly: 9/10 --Unique story-telling. I even think that the majority of AT would dig it if they stick through the first 15 minutes or so (warning, you will have to READ SUBTITLES unless you speak French ;))

TV:

The Wire: 11/10. GF and I Netflixed this over the last couple of months, currently halfway through final season. Don't think I need to justify this one...

This worth buying boxsets for? Currently looking for new ones after Dexter and BSG now, including looking at The Wire and The Shield...

Maybe it's just me but I won't buy boxsets unless the series has concluded.

I don't do that. I don't watch any TV really, pick up some good recommended boxsets every now and then to hold me over. If it's really good, I keep getting seasons after they're released a bit.

I could just torrent them but I'd actually rather buy in these cases :Q

nah, just Netflix it. personally, I can't see any reason to re-watch them. In the sense that most would want to re-watch BoB, for example.

Will check it out later and see if it's worth a buy :D

Two very good / excellent "odd balls" mentioned in this thread are "In Bruges" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly". The latter being one of the best foreign films ever made.

The Lives of Others: 8/10

from netflix:
Set in 1980s East Berlin, director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's debut feature (which earned an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film) provides an exquisitely nuanced portrait of life under the watchful eye of the state police as a high-profile couple is bugged. When a successful playwright and his actress companion become subjects of the Stasi's secret surveillance program, their friends, family and even those doing the watching find their lives changed too.

a friend of a friend teaches a film class and i get his film list from her because he never watches the same thing twice, and always picks out a lot of unusual films.

this was excellent. a little slow, but really great.

Marine 6/10 - It was on cable, and a co worker raved about it. Once I saw that the star was a WWE star, I knew I was in trouble.

Star Wars Clone Wars 5/10 - So disappointing.
Journey to the Center of the Earth 7/10 - Good story, good special effects = good time.
Dark Knight 9/10 - I give it a 10, but that Maggie girl ruined it.
Wall-E 8/10 - I couldn't believe a fn cartoon brought me to tears.
Hancock 7/10 - It had so much promise, but the ending ruined it.

Clerks

7/10. It was an OK comedy. Bad acting and obviously very amateur. Enjoyable: yes. Excellent: no.

Did you watch from the beginning, or just the last season? I loved the entire series, but seasons 1-2 were especially phenomenal.

Oh, and you should have used little dots in your list. "The Deputy likes dots".

oh damn, guess I should give my Dark Knight rating:

7/10. great action flick. A bit labored, and could have easily been tighter: Harvey Dent/Two-Face was distracting. Should have focused more on Joker, save Dent for later. Nothing new, though. Sure, a little more depth than what you expect from an action flick, but if you're the type to think this was "the most brilliant film you've ever seen," then you'd probably be saying the same thing about Donnie Darko. Again, it's "smart" for an action flick, but not complex by any means. I'd give it a 6/10, but Gylaanhall is such a step up from Holmes, that she's worth an extra point. Ledger was great. Probably the best Joker, though this type of film was perfect for his type of Joker. Jack was perfect for his type of Joker, and so it goes. Ledger was great, but not earth-shatteringly good. Unless this is a weak year, I wouldn't expect a nomination for him...

Watched a couple of movies on the weekend:

Tropic Thunder: 6/10 It was ok, I laughed in a few spots. I was expecting more, which is probably part of the problem. The person I was with laughed her ass off though, so I guess just different strokes.

The Prestige: 7/10 Bale was good as usual and I'm always happy to see Scarlett Johansson on screen (particulary in HD!!) but I just felt the movie was a little too over the top and forced in spots. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't rush out and buy it or anything.
