RAGE (PC version): 5/10 Nice graphics and smooth, uninspired but bug-free gameplay (except for one race where I fell off the track and got permanently stuck), plot sucked, and ending and ending "boss" fight (or lack thereof) was absolutely horrible as if they ran out of money and needed to ship it immediately. The story arc in the last few missions was too compressed... need to expand it or else let the player know about the final objective well in advance rather than spring it on them in the last mission. This is in complete contrast to say, Half Life 2, where your final objective is clear early on: you need to get to the Citadel and blow it up.

I loved RAGE. Excellent graphics and lots of things to kill. Who cares about a story. 8.5/10.

Legends of Grimrock: 9/10

Pros: Polished, smooth, very fun - it's done in the style of a classic Eye of the Beholder type RPG with modern graphics, but is mostly a puzzle game in a dungeon. I don't mean like the 7th guest in a mansion, I mean the puzzles are very much fitting in the dungeon - the torches and so on. And they're incredible puzzles, enough to make you consider quitting - but come back later and they're solvable. Best puzzles in years.

Cons: The RPG cover is pretty much throwaway shallow and simple, an excuse for the puzzles. Some things can be confusing in the game, including items it's not hard to leave behind and need later at great trouble. For me, low replayability - exhausting to consider a replay - but some have found fun trying different parties.

Have you tried any of the Mods, some of them are pretty good?

I agree. Although story isn't the best, and the overall experience often feels "shallow", the game is still very fun, graphics are great, and for $5 which I bought it for, it is definitely worth it. I spend at least a good 35 hours with it. I'd give it a solid 7/10. What RAGE needed to be a 9/10 game was more depth. I think it could have greatly benefited from RPG elements, such as character upgrades, inventory and overall character advancement through levels, abilities and whatnot. Further, all this would have to be integrated such that extra items and abilities would greatly affect the interaction with the world and fights with enemies. As it stands, the choices on how to deal with every fight are somewhat limited.

Some recent games I played.

Wargame: AirLand Battle - 6/10 Punishing difficulty, tutorial is very poor, in order to be any good at the game you must "study" it like a subject in school. Know all unit stats, strengths, know the terrain, and every little intricacy about the game, how everything works, etc. And you'll still lose to those who had more time to study than you did. Sounds obvious, but this is a GAME, and as such it should offer a level of enjoyment to people of all skill levels, which it doesn't. The pros off course, are the incredible depth, detail and strategy. No other strategy game offers this much sheer depth.

Disciples III - 4/10 One word. LAME. Lame story, horrible narrative, bad voice acting, bad unit feedback, lame sounds, punishing difficulty, very little innovation in comparison to previous games in the series, few music tracks and those that are there, are are really not all that great and repeat too often. A real shame, because the graphics are great and the game could have been awesome with proper audio backing but its amazing how audio alone plus lack of a good story and narrative can destroy the game so.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing - 8/10. A very nice, although limited with only one character Diablo clone. (which is still much better than Diablo 3)

Torchlight 2 - 8/10 A very nice game, but the whole, "lets not take the game seriously and make it look like a cartoon is getting annoying. Should have had a darker, more serious feel of Diablo. Also, in desperate need of proper PvP system." PvP is there, but really it should have been more like the PvP in Diablo 2.

Crysis and Crysis Warhead - 6/10 To sum it up, "ALL FLASH NO SUBSTANCE". Graphics are pretty good, even now, but story is lame, and gameplay is very, very derivative. If you played Call of Duty 2, you already done and seen all this to death. Crysis really feels like Call of Duty in another setting.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - 8/10 Very, very nice RPG, plagued by constantly reused NPC models. This much recycling feels like an insult to the intelligence of the player. Combat system is very clunky. Distances to travel can get very annoying, and there is no fast travel system in place. Also, sex is done right, without being dirty or nasty. I picked this game up for $2.50 so it was worth every penny. I feel like I'll beat this one just for the story and character progression alone, because it is very rewarding.

Company of Heroes 2 : Beta - 9/10 Game didn't even come out yet but it is already great. Many people are complaining that the Russians are overpowered, but they weren't complaining enough in the original when the Panzer Elite was beyond overpowered and remained so for the duration of games existence. Feels good to have some revenge for a change, even though PE is not here. CoH is one of those few games that doesn't need to change much. It was perfect already. All it needed is a nerf to the Germans and the addition of Russians. Now it is perfect. As long as there will be more unit variety and more races than available in the beta, I'll happily play this game for many months to come.

Picked up Wargame: Airland Battle last night on Steam. I'll give it a 6.5/10 so far (only a couple hours into it), but I think with some practice and learning I'd give it 8/10. I think it holds a lot of promise.

I don't feel like typing out a review, so here's a video showing a multiplayer game in progress. If you watch a couple minutes you'll get the idea. Cool stuff.

Tomb Raider 9/10 Even though it wasn't much of a challenge I absolutely loved the game. The graphics were just top notch better then Crysis 3.
Crysis 3 7.5/10 Good game not great. Mindless fun
Max Payne 3 8/10 Love Max! He's such miserable SOB..
Far Cry 3 7/10 Good sandbox FPS a little monotonous at times.
Dead Space 9/10 Haven't finished it yet so far absolutely awesome. I can't image changing my mind at this point.
Bioshock Infinite 8/10 best in series! I love Americana feel of the game
Skyrim 7/10 un-modded 9/10 modded I got over 300 hrs into game not much more to say..
Batman AC 10/10 Just downright awesome! Everyone should have this game.
Torchlight 2 9.5/10 Game just rocks! Great dungeon crawler. Kicks the crap out of D3.

Android: Netrunner Living Card Game: 9/10. Originally a collectable card game created by Richard Garfield (creator of Magic: the Gathering) back in 96 it is now a Fantasy Flight Games Living card games set in the Android universe. Surprisingly playing nothing like magic it's a great game and I can see why the original received cult status.

Everything seems to be better in Netrunner's new incarnation especially the artwork. Even though it's completely different than magic it's the only card game I'm now invested in. Since I can't make it to Friday night magic due to work I can't justify spending the amount of cash needed to keep a competitive deck for the little I'm able to play it. With Netrunner I don't have to chase down playsets of rares or mythics (they give you a playset of cards in each data pack/expansion) and I still get the enjoyment of deckbuilding.

Judging by sales the game seems extremely popular so hopefully more tournaments will be popping up.

Endless Space (4X): 8/10 fun and engaging but combat is seriously lacking and the research tree is basically "tiered" as in you research all technologies in the first "ring" and then move on to the second "ring" otherwise your technology will be unbalanced and you'll have a gimped military or unhappy people.

I've been playing this game without reading anything on the net about it, trying to figure stuff out on my own.

I'll have to try this way to see if this fixes why I haven't EVER been able to take over my whole galaxy.

Nintendo DS Final Fantasy 4 (or FF2 in US SNES)- 10/10:

ff4_ds_ss.jpg

I played FF2 in SNES as a kid about 15 years ago. It was a solid game and I would give it 8/10. The story and gameplays are solid, but I thought the game felt unpolished even as a kid. Lots of status effect spells (Silence, Stop, Sleep, etc) were useless and waste of a turn when you can just outright nuke them to death or stab them. The game also had lots of weird spells which never seemed to work and therefore never bothered. So you would just cruise through the whole game using Fire/Ice/Blizzard 3 and Summons. There wasn't much strategic depth. It was still fun as a 14 year old kid.

855355445finalfantasyiv.jpg

Lots of better polished games came along afterwards such as FF6 (3 in US) and Chrono Trigger.

I grabbed this FF 4 remake on DS just for the nostalgia's sake. HOLY HELL, it's not a mere port (which were done many times on Gameboy, PSP & even Android). I learned that they did two major things:

1. It's a total remake with revamped interface, added mechanics, bonus spells, bonus bosses, and tons of bonus content. Not to mention the full 3D re-imagination of the entire character roster and the world.

2. I LEARNED THAT THE ORIGINAL GAME I PLAYED ON SNES was SEVERELY crippled for the casual US audience. The DS remake restored all this! The game is amazingly hard right from the first mini boss. You can't just cruise through using nukes. The status spells all became VERY useful and imperative to beat everyday mobs and bosses. Suddenly all the spells I thought were previously useless serve their purpose as originally intended. Also lots of mystery spells unexplained in SNES now work because the DS now has ample descriptions of all spells/mechanics.

Suddenly I realized the original game that was released 22 years ago (WTF) actually had amazing polish and tight knight gameplay all along. Add another layer of polish from DS' remake, the game is an outright perfection.

Even at level 15~ (you start at level 9~), I'm already casting silence to mute certain enemy casters, ID their weaknesses (worth the turn now), and strategically dispatch them. You can't just brute force your way. The game is ridiculously fun and incredibly hard. I can't believe the Japanese release was like this all along 22 years ago. It's a game truly ahead of its time.

I declare that FF4 is much better than FF6 (Terra, Locke). It is the best Final Fantasy game (I've played FF4 to FF8) in my opinion. Chrono Trigger takes best Square-Enix' game.

10/10

If I were to nitpick, I do miss the original 2D sprites.... they were sharp and characters looked more serious in their own right. The DS remake is terribly cartoony and the portraits are actually worse.

The original version is what started it all for me. I had always like RPG games, but until this game, well, they just weren't the same. I have this remake but still haven't played it. :( Need to get on it.

bioshock infinite 9.5/10: only 2 real comments. Hate the save system. When I have to stop playing; the only way to tell how much will be lost of the current session is to try to exit and see the time of the last save and compare it to the clock. I mean there has to got to be a better method. Also a couple of the late fights were a bit annoying. I won't go into the story et all.

7/10 - Cities in Motion 2. There isn't much "game" to this game. But for what it does, it does pretty well. The fun factor isn't high and honestly you have to make your own fun by trying out different strategies to increase your cash flow. It's a sandbox game.

8/10 - Everquest Live (or EQ1). I still have a lot of fun with this game. I have started/quit this game many times over the years, but I still get a ton of fun just playing new characters and playing in my raiding guild. Looking forward to EverquestNext.

8/10 - Planetside 2. I have crappy internet at home and the thing lags a lot in big battles. And their 5 gig patches kick my ass for a week after they are released. But I like grabbing a tank, and having my family jump into the turret spots and go rampage through the countryside.

9/10 - Company of Heroes. I downloaded this in some pack from steam a year or two ago and just got around to playing it. Its a kick ass game. I like it a lot. However, I'm only on the first campaign still. The only thing I haven't liked is that I want to play the Nazi's. And instead the only thing I can do is kill them at the moment.

7/10 - Sword of the Stars II. I really like this game how they set it up. But suffers a lot from the same problems as Cities in Motion 2. There isn't any "game" to the game. Diplomacy is basically non existent. Empire building is pretty light. They focused very much on the combat and it's pretty in depth. But the rest of it is pretty mediocre. If they could have only added the rest of the game it would score much higher.

Finished the following games recently:

Batman Arkham City - 8.5/10: Loved it. I think I still liked Asylum more overall and certainly from a story standpoint (the story in City kind of makes no sense and is all over the place) but this was still a lot of fun and I enjoyed playing Catwoman too.

Tomb Raider - 9/10: Blasted through this in about 12 hours with 76% completion. I loved it. It looked great and the gameplay, while kind of consoley in many part, was a lot of fun. It was pretty much non-stop action from start to finish. Story was generic (it kind of reminded me of FarCry) but I had so much fun I didn't really care. This is the only Tomb Raider game I've ever played, but I sure hope they make more.

I just started Metro 2033 last night after finally redeeming my THQ Humble Bundle. Painfully slow start, but things are starting to pick up and I like that everything is Russian. I'll probably keep with it for now and see how I like it.

I started Alan Wake about a month ago but after only playing a few hours of it I've had very little desire to go back. It was pretty boring and the gameplay was quite awful. I guess I'll fire it up again at some point, but it was very disappointing at first blush.

I bought a console game for the first time in a very long time; Rayman Origins and it is super fun. Very nice playing it on my massive screen; it looks great up there.

Harbor Master -10/10

Probably one of the most addicting games I've ever played in my life. The phone version is limited by screen space, but the tablet version is phenomenal fun.

It's free with a single map (you can buy more for 99 cents), and the map it comes with is the best map to boot.

Battle Cats- 9/10 This is a mobile game. And it's free. For being a mobile game, it's hilariously fun and has quite a depth. It's up there with Plants vs Zombies. I suggest you guys check it out now. Very addictive and fun.

My friend made me play a Japanese Visual Novel called "Sengoku Rance".

Its meant for mature audience as there is a lot of sexual scenes but all in the pure aspect of comedy.

i think i would give that game almost a 10.... it did keep me busy in the rpg tatics type portion as well as made the story hella funny with Rance's lust.

This is what i mean about turn based tatics..
rance-select-foe.jpg

you can find translated fansub mods of the game.
I believe it doesn't hold any licenses in the US also, although don't quote me on that...
Alicesoft isnt EA, and most of there stuff is not for distribution outside of Japan. (no ESRB)

Cool game. I just found where to play it, complete with English patch. ;)
