The first ice spell is pretty effective too (and multiple monsters).

Still on Level 4..so many damn spiders! I wonder how many floors this game is.

Spiders were tough I had toruble with them especially those instances where there is a room infested with them!

one trick (i guess pretty obvious trick) is when dealing with groups of spiders (or any monster) is to back into a hall with a door so the doorway is in front of you. Fight off as many as you can but once you get too hurt close the door and then rest until you heal, then reopen the door to continue combat.

but usually for me I could only do 1 spider at a time resting between. I dont know how many would be able to rush into such a room and tackle multiple spiders at once!

also note that you dont have to waste potions on antivenom every time you are bit. enough rest will also cure poison

Another good combat tip:

When you are fighting enemies (especially single ones) you can effectively stop an enemy from ever even attacking you if you time our attacks perfectly.

Swing with one guy to hit, pause until the enemy is about to attack, then swing with your second guy. Rinse and repeat until your 4th party member strikes and hopefully your first one will be ready to attack again before the enemy can swing. Each attack stops the enemy's attack, so you effectively shut them down. I guess this wont work on all creatures, maybe some creatures cant be interrupted like that or are just too fast.

Heh, yeah but how many hours did you play? I must have put like 12 hours already! :$ I stayed home sick yesterday because I woke with a bad headache but once it went away it was Legend of Grimrock time!

I find my mage to be quite integral to the party. I still only use the most basic spell- the first spell you get in the game- Flameburst. I havent learned any better spells yet even thought my skill does allow for higher level ones. But flameburst is powerful enough especially when you are using it against groups of monsters, because it does damage to every creature occupying the same tile!

Well, I've only got about 5 or 6 hours in so far, but for a game they're saying to expect 15 to 20 . . . I'm going to have WAY more than that, which is a good thing 🙂

Game is 10 or 13 levels, I can't remember exactly, but the way it's ramping up it's going to be a challenge.

@rivan - yeah, I'm an old fart too, it's taking getting used to the right click and the left/right turn (q/e) thing, but it's coming along slowly.

I forgot to ask about something.

Near the end of level 1 you can find
two wall buttons

One opens the Iron door, what does the other one do?

Different attack speeds will also effect this strategy

What I've found effective is
to get in at least a two by two room, swing once then shift over, wait until monster moves to next square, face and swing once (maybe twice), then move to adjacent square before monster attacks. This is pretty effective for larger, less limber monsters.

Oh yeah I like this method especially for the
bigger mushroom guys that blow poison gas - they are really slow to turn to face you! was even able to use it against the scorpion guys who will strafe as they shift cells to always face you, they are still too slow.

Oh don't forget guys you can mark your map! I only found out about this on Level 4 - but you can click on your map and write a little note on it. Very helpful!

Wow - feels just like Dungeon Master [slightly modified].

If/when the mod tools are released, I think it would be fun to make an updated replica of the original DM and DM chaos strikes back.

Even though it's "real time" combat - there is still a smidgen of turn based combat thanks to the slight pauses. Just gotta watch it when there are 2+ mobs attacking as they'll block you from moving if you're not careful.

I don't remember it but check for a secret room opening with an item.

Yeah, I did that and didn't see anything.

I even went back to the beginning area since according to the map it's in the neighborhood.

I don't think it toggled the aclove with the Staff because I toggled the switch it nothing happened :\

Yeah, noticed the AI tries to anticipate your movement by the way you're facing.

If you are in 2x2 room and a monster is caddycorner from you, you can see it turn left or right depending on how you're facing.

This game reminds me a lot of Dungeon Master II that I have for Sega CD. May just have to get it one day for the nostalgia feeling alone 🙂

Stuck on last scroll in level 4 grr. 😀 (Time and Tide). Trying to make a point not to look for answers in the forums, but I have a feeling I'll be using it alot lol

I had to use help for level 6 just for a needed key, then saw that I missed quite a few secrets. Which sucks, because I thought I was doing pretty good finding secrets, lol.

You need to press them both to open it. You just thought one did the job.

Ah, that makes sense then I think . . .

I can't remember the order I pressed them in, but after watching this review I may get to retest it.

This guy is using pre-generated characters, and he's going through enemies a lot easier than I am :$

I'm struggling to beat even a single Skeleton and he's pretty much rolling right through them.
I may have to restart with better characters now that I understand how their stats work - all my characters are essentially gimped the way I spread out their stats.

I am posting via my phone, so it is difficult. Beyond that nothing I said was in anyway a spoiler to anyone that didn't read the previous spoiler tag, and even then it is hardly a spoiler.

Obviously, it is - hence someone posting here trying to figure out the situation... if you can type the message, you can type the tag.

Stuck on the first room in floor 3 for a while. Want to resist hints, but wondering if more time will help. Not looking for any hint at this time.

'Lone pillar of light stands alone in the night.'

Sounds like a torch - one torch - not sure what 'stand alone in the night' is.

I've tried all kinds of torch placement in the 5 holders in the room...

not really a spoiler or really a hint...

Pay close attention to the first two words of the wall marking....

Hi Uber, the second line in my spoiler text speculating about the riddle is exposed in the quoted post. Havent' read yours yet, but this is frustrating...
