Casting a spell is a bottleneck in combat, click attack, click each rune, click cast.

Agreed, however I think it's supposed to sort of simulate the time it takes to cast a spell, the more complicated the spell, the longer it takes to cast it.

I'm in level 3 now...and stuck :/

I did figure out how to make potions and medicine :D

Stuck on floor 3 also.

I've been saving crap like useless armor and those shields and spears, now encumbered... they're probably better to just drop.

'lone pillarof light (torch?) stands alone in the night (only one?) hm...

found out how to resurrect party members, which is good, because there are a couple of battles that have been tough.

Also, learned to use the floor traps to my advantage.

Floor traps? When do those show up?

I think he's talking about the pressure plate activated floor pits.

There's also a copy of the Manual, Map, and Grid paper in your Grimrock directory, and also under the "goodies" on the GOG site.

If you're on 3, you've already seen many of them. I've been doing this often for large #'s of monsters...but a warning..I think it will bite you in the butt later. I don't want to spoil why I think this, let's just say..I ran into my old friends...

I still don't know how to ressurrect people, so I save before every fight.

I guess I'm the odd one out but I think the game looks boring as shit. I can see it being a game that invokes memories of oldschool dungeon crawlers, but my feelings on this game is similar to how I feel about Pong or Space Invaders.

Pong and Space Invaders are awesome games.

I liked Might and Magic, but I am not sure I want to play a game like it again. Plus this seems to have less scope than that as it is only set in a dungeon. I may pick it up anyway since it is so cheap, but I am not sure I really want to play it.

It really is about nostalgia more than anything else. I think the M&M games had more depth (no pun intended) to them in terms of puzzles (at least so far). This does add some twists to puzzles though.

There is some other "story" brewing in the game too. Anyone seen that yet? And I also got freaked by some natural occurrance that came out of nowhere...still not sure what that was all about.

I'll just say, as someone who did not find 'Hack, Slash, Loot' much fun in the little while I played, and likes M&M a lot but I have a hard time playing them now...

The smoothness, pace, playability and fun factor is great with this one.

If you think you might like it you should.

I'm waiting for my rogue to be roguish... just seems like a version of a warrior - and what the heck use is backstab, seems rare you could use it. No stealth.

I bought it last night. Didn't have much time to play it so far, maybe I can get an hour in tonight.

I noticed at the beginning there is an option for additional dungeons. It says for expansion and mods! That could be cool. From reading the board, it sounds like they are open to modding of the game.

So who here hates themselves and is using pen and paper to map? :D

No hand mapping here.

In this RTS style crawler, there's no way I could effectively do mapping by hand.
I've already had a Mushroomer come up behind me unexpectedly - and I'm only on level one :p

From what I understand they're going to release the Editor in stages over the next several weeks.
Probably more from tweaking each iteration than withholding functionality.
First is Dungeon design and then on through scripting/effects.

Yes and yes.

However, I am stuck on level 3. Where the hell is the other key?

If it's what I think you are talking about, if you found one, you are close to the other. Do the same thing you did to get the first one. (Block in a wall).
