Thanks guys, got past it, not sure how I missed that one. Probably was too busy looking at the walls rather than out in the open several squares away. ;)

I cant get the GoG version to update. I downloaded the new version this morning, but after installing it, the version is still 1.1.3.

You have to uninstall old version then install new version. Be sure to save your waves.

Not a huge fan of all the puzzles. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of having a puzzle here and there to mix up the action, maybe some extra optional puzzles to get secret gear upgrades or food or whatnot, but the number of mandatory puzzles on levels 4+ is starting to kill the fun for me.

Does it let up on later levels, or every level going to be puzzle after puzzle from this point on?

Loved it. Relatively simple game with fun challenges. I couldn't make myself play it again though.

Alrighty. Finally made it to level 6 or so, maybe level 7. Where you have the big brute, and more spiders in an open area.

On hard difficulty and oldschool. It hasn't actually been too hard if you think about things for awhile and formulate a strategy. (Like the end of level 4). But I'm noticing I'm resting alot and my guys are eating lots of food, and while I'm probably good for another level or two for food, I have a feeling I might run out here before the end of the game. The minotaur eats like a horse. Is there any spell or mob that drops food that respawns or anything of the sort?

I also find the rogue completly useless. I wish I would have had fighter + fighter + mage + mage.

There are a couple sections later on that allow you kill a certain monster over and over (won't name it as I don't think you've seen it again). The monster drops food almost every kill.

Also, there are a couple of items that will reduce the speed in which the food bar decreases.

I'm at the end of level 10. Absolutely loving the game. My only regret is that it is coming to an end so soon. :(

Here's to hoping for DLC or an expansion! I would love to see some more character classes, maybe another race, more items, more skills, more spells... and of course, more dungeon levels. :)

there are actually respawning snails (snail meat) in the level you are in.

I just bought this an i am totally dumb-founded.

I cannot freely move and at the same walk, i am limited to left/right/back/forth/rotate..is this by design? it feels VERY awkward to move around in the game.

Yes, that is by design. It is a game mechanic used in PC RPGs in the early to mid 90s. Might and Magic 2 used this style as did a slew of others (Might and Magic 2 is just the only game I can think of off the top of my head that I know for certain was this way.)

The whole game is based on this movement concept. I actually like it as it simplifies the game, and makes a clear set of rules that both you and the NPCs have to follow.

It takes practice, but you get used to moving around with your left hand's movement. You have to quickly do things like move to the back of mobs, I suspect, e.g., DWWAQQ fast.

It's a throw back to a time when free ranging 3D wasn't yet invented. For those of us who played Eye of the Beholder, the style is both nostalgic and enjoyable. And it shows that High end, 3D full roaming graphics don't always make for the most fun you can have on a PC.

I actually find the mages a bit more of a pain but only because it takes too long to click runes and fire off the spell while in combat or moving around. Have you tried Minotaur Rogues with Headhunter traits and maxed missile throwing? I have 2 of them in the back and I'm just finding it much easier to kill things.

Just finished - nice twist at the end - took me a bit to figure out how to kill the boss.

I had to look up hints for a few puzzles only because I didn't start taking notes on the map until it was too late [I had already moved/dropped scrolls with critical information].

Found only 5/7 secrets - but as others have said - no real desire to go back and play it again.

Once the mod kit is released - I expect people to make updated version of the Dungeon Master series, Eye of the Beholder, etc [if they don't - I frikken will!] :)

Yeah, I've had to back track to recover a few items as well.
You just can't carry all the stuff you run across so you have to drop quite a bit of it.

Just got into level 10 yesterday.

All those timing/coordination puzzles are killing me :hmm:

I am pretty sure there aren't any more timing puzzles from level 10 on. Wait, I forgot there is one in level 10, but it actually isn't that hard once you figure out the trick for it.

This game was a lot of fun, and I am very glad I bought it. I decided to try to finish Skyrim after finishing Grimrock, but found that I really missed the Gameplay of Grimrock while playing Skyrim. I can't believe I have nearly 100 hours in Skyrim, and have so much of the world and even the main quest undiscovered/unfinished.

Definitely like the game, it's just the old coordination isn't what it used to be (or ever was), plus my Keyboard's been around for some time and the Keys tend to hang a little (wear and tear over the years).

I had several hundred hours in Oblivion and never finished the Main Quest myself.
I was one of the first ones to uncover the freezing/slow-mo Animation problem, so I kind of lost interest in finishing it (that and reformats and System upgrades).

Never picked up Skyrim as it's still a Steam only thing, and after the Oblivion issues I wasn't overly excited about uncovering more of Bethesda's problems.

I just got to level - I thought it was 5 but might be 4 - one where you have a hard fight at the start.

I could barely get past it after many tries, with three people killed. Now I'm having to go through a lot of the level with only one person in the party (a mage).

I could load a save and try again but it took long enough to get it with one person left, and the other three aren't even close to not getting killed. Game got a lot harder!

We'll see if I'm just stuck - how long can one char defeat all these monsters? No blue stone in sight and can't seem to go back to the earlier level.

If you're where I think you are,
there are two different ways down. Both are difficult, but the one is just downstairs from a Crystal, the other is not.

The game definitely gets progressively harder the deeper you go - there are some nasty surprises ahead.

I still haven't finished it myself, but I'm getting close.
