If Kamala is in Houston Friday to boost Colin Allred's chances of beating Cruz, I'd have to say their internal polling must be feeling overall positive about the swing states they need. These two weeks can't go by fast enough.

Something definitely doesn't seem to compute correctly in the polls.. or maybe the curiosity and win me over is real!

Look.. same venue 4 days apart:

I hear Allred vs Cruz may be in the margin of error.

We've blown that to smithereens. Other than having the mightiest military in the world, the thing that comes to my mind regarding American exceptionalism is the 1st Amendment. But the extent to which it's been abused is face-palm shame-worthy. Pathological liar (everybody with any discernment knows this) has a real chance at reelection to the White House. America is presently exceptionally dysfunctional.
My coworker just spent 3 weeks in Europe and told me that restaurants won't give people free water there. I think it's nuts that the socialist dreamland makes people pay for water at a restaurant. So Ice Water is American Exceptionalism.

Bill Gates does an anti-Elon:

Bill Gates Privately Says He Has Backed Harris With $50 Million Donation

Mr. Gates said in a statement to The Times that “this election is different,” reflecting a significant change in his political strategy.

(From a lead story ATM at the New York Times)
Just think back to the mid-90s, and think could anyone back then see Bill Gates giving money to any democrat? Much less one that currently has the most fierce FTC in decades?

I think that's disinformation. In California, which WAS suffering severe drought at the time, restaurants were forbidden from dispensing free water without being asked (at least in some places). Once asked, water was supplied. Perhaps this is still the case. There is not a charge for water AFAIK in restaurants.

IMO, the whole water-if-asked bruhaha was/is stupid. I mean how much water was saved? I read IIRC that Hurricane Helene dumped 3 trillion gallons of water on the American southeast.

Uh, I was misinformed:

More than 40 trillion gallons of water was dumped on the American Southeast by Hurricane Helene.

However, drought in the west is a monstrously greater issue than in the east in America. Currently, most of California is not in drought conditions. Reservoirs are in mostly great shape AFAIK. Still, drought is so common here that most people are so familiar with water saving techniques that it's second nature. It's certainly the case with me.

Yeah, saving water by not providing it unless asked is 100% pissing in the ocean of the California water program.

As far as disinformation, he was just there and I don't think he was lying about it. He bikes through Europe for 3 weeks every August and lived there for a few years, I don't think he has an agenda against it. Might it might be the type of places he goes or where he is at. I know there is one place on South Beach that charges for water (that I will never go back to, but it is insanely popular).

I was also just on the Tennessee side of the Smoky Mountains, and couldn't believe how low all the rivers and waterfalls were, I guess it was really dry before Helene and most of the heavy rain was on the NC side.

I've done plenty of Bill Gates hating, generally when I have issues with my computers, which are Microsoft Windows. I use it because I use a few apps that require it. But I realize that Bill has major philanthropic tendencies and cares about real issues. Nowadays I don't think he has any power in/over Microsoft, so there's that. So, I have to like him now, I guess. :)

Yeah, the trial against Microsoft really changed him for the better, meanwhile Elon became a super villain because he didn't get invited to one dinner.

Fingers crossed. I'm voting Allred tomorrow.

His ads have been all over Youtube for us, so much so that my kiddo knows who he is. We had a discussion on name exposure in political campaigns. :D

Haven't seen any Cruz ads at all, but it's funny that we did have one Cruz canvasser (looked like a college student). First time in his years campaigning in TX that I've seen that, but we've had tons of Dem canvassers over the years. I'm not sure I can draw a conclusion, but I'd like to think that means Cruz is scared.

Finally! Took him long enough should’ve been said a month ago from him.

So now we have at least Milley and Kelly (not sure I’ve seen Mattis yet) point out the obvious to all of us. Will the right people listen is now the question that will decide at all?

Edit: yup just saw that Mattis has called him a fascist.

The fact the polls are as close as they are really gives lie to the notion of American exceptionalism.

What a sad fucking state of a shit show.

This is why I think we're in a "win the battle, lose the war" kinda place even if Kamala wins. It's not like her winning will make those MAGA voters go away.

I'm not so sure about that. Trump is fairly unique in his ability to have negative stories slide off him. It's hard to see someone like JD Vance gathering the rest of the Trump coalition and running with it in 2028.

I don't necessarily think they need a leader. There is enough of the crazy that's already been spread around that the remains will simply push on. Remember, he's a symptom and not the cause.

But it will weaken Trump, make him look like lasting loser and rotting roadkill. I don't think JD Vance will ever look electable. Project 2025 will look like detritus of the last failure to gain the Oval Office. Those voters' attitudes aren't going to remain the same without their Trump cult happening. He'll likely keep saying he was cheated again. Many will claim to believe that. It's Trump's legacy of shame, he'll always be regarded as a rat in retrospect by honest people. But the people who prefer their own version of history? What can you do? Lots of people believe what they want regardless of evidence. It's always been that way.

I think there is a large and growing contingent of conservatives who genuinely hate Trump, Vance, and the MAGA brand of politics. However, they would prefer castration over voting for a Democrat, much less electing a minority woman as president.

But. I don’t think you tip wait staff in Europe and they pay the staff a living wage so I would be ok with that

Sure, he's net unfavorable. But that 40% is still there and they're not going away now that he's given them permission to come out in public. Deprogramming that many people is something that I don't believe has been accomplished. Let alone even attempted.

- Nazi Germany was somewhat similar in scale and overall went quite well. With the minor side note that it only took complete military defeat including killing off 10% of the German population to get started.

Armed occupation and forced govt/legal structure helped too I guess.

As long as they stay home and don’t vote, then I’d consider that a win. Makes it that much tougher for Trump to make up for those non-votes.
