While Citizens United is bad, things were pretty shitty before that ruling. The ability of television to command vast revenues for running ads, far beyond anything newspapers of old ever dreamed, changed the political landscape. Now the most consumed media is also the primary beneficiary of campaign spending. "Campaign spending is at record levels and we absolutely love it!" is news that media companies want their investors to hear.
That's another thing. Mega Groups like Sinclair, Gannett and Clear Channel would not be able to own stations in so many markets. They would have to sell off much of what they have.

News 'should ' be Non-Profit, but I'm not sure that could be a law.

Part of that is to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.

It's with one of many groups doing this. A local group I do other things with. Kamala's ground game is miles and miles ahead of Trump's, in PA included.

Hope we kick out that traitor congressman in NJ too who switched from Dem to MAGA.

A possibility I hadn't really considered until just now:
A legitimate Harris win, followed by AI/deepfake releases of false information from 'legitimate' source (some election official) that never happened, or even state that Democrats are themselves using AI to announce the false results of the election. This would be a great way to take the voting results out of the hands of the election officials and give it to the house, SC, whoever.

The fact the polls are as close as they are really gives lie to the notion of American exceptionalism.

What a sad fucking state of a shit show.
We've blown that to smithereens. Other than having the mightiest military in the world, the thing that comes to my mind regarding American exceptionalism is the 1st Amendment. But the extent to which it's been abused is face-palm shame-worthy. Pathological liar (everybody with any discernment knows this) has a real chance at reelection to the White House. America is presently exceptionally dysfunctional.

Bill Gates does an anti-Elon:

Bill Gates Privately Says He Has Backed Harris With $50 Million Donation

Mr. Gates said in a statement to The Times that “this election is different,” reflecting a significant change in his political strategy.

(From a lead story ATM at the New York Times)

Oct. 22, 2024, 5:11 p.m. ET

After decades of sitting on the sidelines of politics, Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world, has said privately that he recently donated about $50 million to a nonprofit organization that is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential run, according to three people briefed on the matter.
The donation was meant to stay under wraps. Mr. Gates, one of the founders of Microsoft, has not publicly endorsed Ms. Harris, and his donation would represent a significant change in the strategy that has previously kept him away from gifts like this.
In private calls this year to friends and others, Mr. Gates has expressed concern about what a second Donald Trump presidency would look like, according to a person briefed on Mr. Gates’s thinking, although he has stressed that he could work with either candidate. Mr. Gates does not have a deep relationship with Ms. Harris, but he has celebrated the Biden-Harris administration’s work on climate change. Mr. Gates’s philanthropic organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is significantly concerned about potential cuts to family planning and global health programs if Mr. Trump is elected, according to two people close to the foundation.

Elon the skipping dipshit lolol

I'm so glad Tim Walz is like a Democrat anger-translator. Cause you know if Kamala did that people would say she's un-presidential or something, even though we all know it's true and want to say it. But Walz, being VP and a white guy, gets a pass.

So, keep going ballz to the Walz! 😎
