She is awaiting the lashes in a prison.

Okay, now you guys are just making stuff up. The article doesn't mention she's in prison at all.
Troll much? The article said she was awaiting the lashes. It did not mention her being in prison.

And how messed up is that? Holding the threat of lashes over the head of a rape victim and her not knowing if or more likely when the lashes will be handed out?

then who does? Iran?

Saudi Arabia doesn't represent because the sheiks are just there to make money and free spend it all. They don't look after their own people. They don't care about their own kind.

ok..then what Islamic country is democratic, guarantees rights to all its citizens and allows freedom of worship = none.

she is not being lashed for being raped.

She is being lashed for going outside without a male escort.
Saudi Arabia is the only nation in the world that has such rules forced on women.

Women cannot even drive. The rape is just an addition to this story to make it seem as if Islam played some kind of role in this.

Women in Saudi Arabia get lashes all the time for stepping outside. That never made the media headline because nobody cared. Add rape and you can mix the two together and feed the public what they love to hear.

Rather than say Islam at its finest, the topic should say "Saudi Arabia at its finest".
Obviously their laws and viewpoints do not represent Islam since no other nation in the world follows that crap.
The only other people that did were the Taliban whose belief system stemmed from Saudi Arabia. Whabbism. Bunch of village donkey lovers follow that b.s. Give the village donkey bangers oil money and what do you get? Leaders of Saudi Arabia.

Those women you see walking around with only their eyes showing... they are Saudi women.

Beautiful Saudi Arabia.

There are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world with the largest Muslim nations being democratic. With the largest Muslim nations having had women Presidents and women military officials. The Middle East is only 12-15% of the Muslim population. This includes the 70 million people in NATO Turkey who have women fighter pilots right now flying missions for NATO. They are flying F-16s. Good luck seeing that in Saudi Arabia.

Sounds like bureaucracy and red tape. If she gets lashed, that might be fvcked up. Until then, it just sounds like a stupid court ruling; they are a dime a dozen here in the states as well (heard about the border patrol agents serving prison time for accidentally shooting a drug smuggling illegal?).

Enjoy your circle jerk guys!

While disgusting that they have the laws she knew the penaltiy.

The woman's ordeal began a year ago when she was blackmailed into meeting a man who threatened to tell her family they were having a relationship outside wedlock, which is illegal in the desert kingdom

she was in a relationship outside of wedlock. she knew it was against the law. she went out without a male escort (how sad they even have this law. sigh) and she knew the risk.

saying all of that i think that the fact they even have such laws is insane.

o yea? let's talk about those other nations where these laws are actually enforced on a daily basis.

Stepping outside without a male escort and actually getting whipped for it.

List of nations?
Saudi Arabia

It doesn't matter, radical Islam is a cancer and is spreading within Islam and must be stopped at all costs before it destroys the religion and everything else.

Most countries of the Middle East and North Africa maintain a dual system of secular courts and religious courts, in which the religious courts mainly regulate marriage and inheritance. Saudi Arabia and Iran maintain religious courts for all aspects of jurisprudence, and religious police assert social compliance. Laws derived from sharia are also applied in Afghanistan, Libya and Sudan. Some states in northern Nigeria have reintroduced Sharia courts. In practice the new Sharia courts in Nigeria have most often meant the re-introduction of harsh punishments without respecting the much tougher rules of evidence and testimony. The punishments include amputation of one/both hands for theft, stoning for adultery and apostasy.

Saudi Arabia is the only nation in the world that has such rules forced on women.

Actually, she is being lashed for meeting and going out with a male that was not a relative. Unfortunately, that man blackmailed her into going by threatening to tell her family that they had been having a relationship outside of wedlock...which is illegal in Saudi Arabia. There's nothing in the story indicating that she and the man were or were not indeed having a relationship (not to me at least).

So, she's effectively being lashed because Saudi's laws are setup in such a way that women can easily be blackmailed and taken advantage of.

From the article:
The judges, basing their decision on Islamic law, also decided to sentence the woman and her original blackmailer to lashes for being alone together in his car.
It's a shame they can't make decisions based on intelligence or reason.

The woman is appealing to Saudi King Abdullah to intervene in the controversial case.
He probably won't do anything more than maybe reducing the number of lashes. He probably couldn't appear to be "weak" or look like he's opposing Islamic law.

based on the money they use to export their influence.
They export billions to the US every year. Are there other countries you'd like to mention?
