Rabid replies agreeing with me. Then you exploded as usual.

I've reread it plenty. You both made several posts attacking me. If it was just about the reputation of the school then I would have disagreed but no gotten personal. However, he said all schools in AL sucked for undergrad, and you both kept insulting me. Why would I not respond with inflammatory comments?

It only got personal with your reply. My reply to you and Rabid's reply to me were tame.

That's your opinion, but It was between him and I to begin with. I think what he said was sufficient cause for my reaction. If you disagree you disagree, but that's how I feel.
The difference is I'll let you keep your opinion/feelings and not go on a crazy, brutish crusade.
You lobbed plenty of insults.

I think that any rational human being would disagree. If someone says "Birmingham sucks' and you disagree - you don't punch him in the face and then kick in in teh groin. I think most people would be a little more calm.

It looks like a discussion about Alabama schools till you get there. Your comments are the first personal attacks in the thread.

Not actually it looked like a discussion about Troy State that turned into people bashing the undergrad system in alabama. A bit of a difference considering I'm in the undergrad system, but don't go to Troy State.

No, it was actually a discussion about Troy State and one post about undergrad in AL - which was later taken back. Then it started with your insults.

Even if you do go to the undergrad system in AL, it doesn't warrant the reponse that you posted.

You then went on and said I 'suck others off' and a prick, etc.

Perhaps I should have responded with "Please dont' post information about your life that has no relevance to my post" - but your abrasive post didn't warrant such a reply either. You always have to go to a personal level.

My post had plenty of relevance. As I already said I was trying to show that people don't just pick a school because they suck. I'd think 3-4 posts saying sh!t about me posting my life story(two sentences about why some people don't go for top tier) is a bit much and worthy of a flame. I went personal because you did insult me by saying Undergrad in Alabama sucks.

He said it doesn't reflect the nature of the people though.

Seriously, do you get all uppity if someone says 'hi' instead of a proper 'hello' to you?

I think saying the entire State of Alabama's undergrad system sucks and you HAVE to go out of state isn't the same as saying hi instead of hello.

But that's a real discussion. Until you get there people were talking about a school system. You are the first person in the thread to attack a person directly. You don't disagree, you don't make a counter argument, you start your post by calling someone an asshole. Your next post attacks his sexual orientation. In between those two posts very little was said about you, just a discussion of the school system. It certainly looks like the blame falls squarely on you.

Yes they did. And the severity and degree of them were alarming. I commented on how I don't want to hear about your life or how you cry or whatever - and then you said I was a homosexual (not that there's anything wrong with that), a prick, etc.

You need to learn how to act more civilized.

I never attacked his sexual orientation. I explain this for the 5th time in 30 minutes, but saying someone sucks another person off has nothing to do with sexual orientation. It means you suck up to them. It's a cliche statement that says nothing about someone's preference. You're barking up the wrong tree by accusing me of being a homophone. And I did make a counter-argument directly below my insults. Ad-hom doesn't mean an argument is invalid.

A short discussion of the system, which was taken back before Mill went all berserk.

I wouldn't say that the blame falls squarely on him even though he was the first to take it to a personal level, but he does need to learn how to calm down and act more civilized when faced with a different opinion.

It sounds like an attack on sexual orientation. I'm sure that if you said that to most people, they would assume the same.

I'm not accusing you of being a homosexual hater - I'm fine with it, too. However, the tone of you using it was insulting.

Again, you were the first to bring it to a personal level. You need to be more civilized.

This is where we will always differ. Just because you don't intend something to not be personal doesn't mean it isn't. When you tell me that my schools sucks because it is in Alabama that is personal to me. Whether you meant it or not or rescinded it doesn't matter. Explicit personal attacks are not different than implicit ones, although people like Moonbeam tend to get away with implicit ones.

You'll notice that much of the fervor in any thread comes off of implied insults. I like implied insults, but it's really hard to make your victim get them most of the time. Rather you were TRYING to be insulting or not is beside the point. You didn't say I didn't mean that and then ask me if I wanted to rescind what I said as well. No, you both decided to continue attacking me. At the risk of sounding clich -- two wrongs don't make a right.

I then commented on saying how I don't care for irrelevant information about your life story and what not. Hardly as offensive as calling someone an asshole and judgemental.

Which he rescinded... and then you exploded.

Not true. He didn't rescind until after I insulted him.

Here it is:

You went crazy with your elitist asshole comment. Rabid rescinded the comment. I replied saying Rabid is not talking about the students and not to tell us your life story. Rabid agrees. The End one would think. Except them, randomly, you come up with the 'sucking off' comment. Rabid then says it's just his opinion that Troy St. isn't regarded well. Then you get all uppity again because of his opinion.

It seems like there isn't a real argument until you say "Do you and CanOWorms suck each other off". Certainly looks like you were trying to start a fight.

I totally disagree. Their comments about my reasoning were just as inflammatory.

Interesting, but I've always heard people use sucking someone off as a way to say they are stuck up someone's ass or that they worship the person. It's meant to convey that they are biased to that person and that they suck up to them. There is no homosexual innuendo behind it. Anyway, I don't think a verbal insult means I'm not civilized. I didn't exactly fly to Boston and cook you and eat you did I?

I wouldn't say that the blame falls squarely on him even though he was the first to take it to a personal level, but he does need to learn how to calm down and act more civilized when faced with a different opinion.

I don't believe that my previously rescinded comment warranted such an abrasive and personal attack. Saying 'AL sucks' doesn't mean that you should reply back with 'fvck u ahole, u prick'...Is it wrong to say AL sucks? Sure. But it doesn't warrant such an offensive reply.
